Various performance problems with the SP Demo. What Geforce 2 do you have? If you got a Geforce 2 MX then there's your problem. 1.4 Ghz P 4 should get a Geforce 3...

191ram gforce2 64mb 600mz and I have *some* lag problems. but it still runs like a dream. maybe your mz are low? ------------------ http://www.3rd.homestead.com/files/stark.jpg If it has to absolutely, positively must be destroyed over night, call the 3RD ID. http://www.3rd.homestead.com/index.html http://3rd.homestead.com/files/gat.jpg |

what do you use for gaming 98?
Because XP and 2k really suck!! Game crashes non stop...at least ME doesn't crash. |

Ive reinstalled win98se each time after getting a new OS. For gaming purposes ill stick with win98se till its completely made redundent. Ive tried to play the demo on my work comp that has winME, its also 2x a better machine then my home puter. It runs better on my win98se 800mhz AMD w/256mb ram then it does my winME 1.8ghz p4 with 512ram. So IMHO winME win2k and winXP all suck for gaming. |
I have a Geforce 3 and I get a paltry 30 FPS with everything maxed out. http://www.alliedassault.com/ubb/frown.gif

I don't know about Windows Me or XP being crap, but I don't think you should change your OperatingSystem. 30% chance of you getting even more problems.
|
Running:
P-3 850 256 RAM GF2 32mb W98 nary a problem. |
i think windows 98se is one of the more stable and reliable operating systems.. but i would wait until the full game comes out to judge whether the game will still run choppy as the sp demo has some problems.

I use XP home edition and game, netgames, SP, and COOP run great. ME is the worst OS I've ever used.

I use Linux.

I always stick with Win 98se because the newer ones never have a good reputation with gamers. Some cheap improvements might be to use a ps2 keyboard and mouse which are faster than usb, use a high frequency mouse which is smoother/less jerky. No matter what your system is, you should optimize it, i.e. latest drivers (like Nvidia's Detonator), minimize the number of progs running in background, especially qttask.exe (try running msconfig), defrag, don't let windows manage your virtual memory but use a fixed size, do not use windows default settings for internet communication but set your own TCP Receive Window. I have done all these things and each one sped up my system. Lastly, just lower your video settings.
