What are some of your favorite WWII movies?
|
SPR, Dirty Dozen,A Bridge Too Far, The Longest Day,etc.
------------------ http://dba.gamepoint.net/images/siggieproto2.jpg |
Probably Saving Private Ryan. It gives a good portrayel (sp?) of WWII and I also think the casting was the best.

SPR is one of the only ones I've seen, lol!
And it's the best. I've also seen The Thin Red Line (sucked), U-571 (ok), and Enemy at the Gates (loved it!!! I loved the music). This has nothing to do with WWII, but I need to see Full Metal Jacket. I'm like the only guy in the world who hasn't. http://www.alliedassault.com/ubb/frown.gif ------------------ http://dba.gamepoint.net/images/therespie.jpg DON'T SHOOT, LET 'EM BURN!!! |

It had Sean Connery, Gene Hackman, James Caan, Anthony Hopkins, Robert Redford, Laurence Olivier, and more! They all performed brilliantly too. I forgot in my first post to mention Patton. ------------------ http://dba.gamepoint.net/images/siggieproto2.jpg |
I would have to say "The Big Red One" A Samuel Fuller Movie for Drama ... and
"Imitation General"[1958] for a comedy, with Glenn Ford and Red Buttons http://personalpages.tds.net/~terrapin/sowers3.gif |

i wasent even a ww2 fan intill i saw band of brothers... not only the best world war two series/movie whatever. its the best thing ive ever seen ON A SCREEN, maybe spr could of been better if they made it like a miniseries with lots of details like bob ... but bob is by far my favorite.
I CANT WAIT FOR THE MOD. whens the dvd collection coming out ???? ------------------ http://coltsigpic.freeservers.com/mohsigssp2.jpg Damn it feels good to be a gangsta. |
Mine is "When Trumpets Fad" It is a kick A** movie and I would recomend it to everyone!
------------------ http://dba.gamepoint.net/images/My_Sig.jpg |
Enemy of the Gates was really good. Even though Band of Brothers wasn't a movie, it was a good series.
The Bridge over River Kwari or something like that. That's the one to see. It's WW2 isn't it? |
SPR & Platoon
------------------ "It will be mine, oh yes, it will be mine" http://closecombatokinawa.netfirms.com/moh.gif |
Windtalkers looks good too. By the way this is just a question how can I get a higher ranking? By posts, or does someone rank me?
A Bridge to Far is a good movie, and I am just watching Force 10 from Navarone on DVD, the sequel to The Guns of Navarone which is around here somewhere on VHS I think, maybe DVD. |
Enemy At The Gates!

------------------ http://www.j-body.org/registry/jbo/flaganim.gif Und wenn du dich auf den Kopf stellst! |
Saving Private Ryan is my favorite.
Tora,Tora,Tora was pretty cool. The Longest Day was ok. Pearl Harbor was not bad. ------------------ http://ddacompanyb.homestead.com/files/RISK2.jpg |
ack pearl harbor, hate that movie, has nothing but propagada written all over it, i wanna see more movies involving more of the least done stuff, i like bastogne, and the eastern front, not just americans vs. germans/japanese, i wanna see more sommonwealth movies, like a bridge too far, and battle of britan, also the thin red line was good. well, i thought it was good, historical accuracy doesn't make movies. i liked it because it actually showed something else besides yankee shoot japanese, but the drama folks, but still SPR tops my list.

Saving Private Ryan... best movie I've ever seen. Thin Red Line, incredible movie... I hope they come out with a director's cut. Pearl Harbor... save for the Shakespearian Love tragedy crap, and it's okay for Americans to be patriotic about a moment that helped define our nation. The Longest Day, incredible movie, although very dated. When Trumpets Fade, visually a great movie, well written, very good acting... sound sucked. Battleground, a powerful movie for the time, actually holds pretty well to todays standards. Patton... he will wreck you. A Bridge too Far... Sean Connery, Anthony Hopkins, James Caan... need I say more? Sands of Iwo Jima, the mother fuckin Duke ruled ass in this movie. Guadalcanal Diaries, watch this movie, then watch the Thin Red Line... it's weird. Enemy at the Gates, needed more combat scenes, but was a great movie, sans the love crap and poor sound design.
Now for a couple of movies I thought sucked... Stalingrad, I thought this would be like Saving Private Ryan, only in the Eastern Front... it wasn't. It sucked, the movie sucked, the sound sucked, the pacing sucked, and the visuals sucked. I especially hated when the guy was cut in half... that looked awful, or when the guy shot himself in the mouth, and it took the bullet about two seconds to go through him and the blood spurted out of his back. Then Tora! Tora! Tora! sucked. It sucked when it came out, and it sucks now. It left out the whole personal feeling of the attack on Pearl Harbor that it needs. It downlplayed Dorrie Miller's bravery, hell... I didn't even know that was a black guy until I really looked. It was just a boring, long, boring movie with no personality. I could go on with more movies that I didn't like... but this is good for now. |
YOU KNOW!!!!
There has all ready been a fourm about this And this belongs to the B.S fourm |
That is true, but nobody really cares http://www.alliedassault.com/ubb/smile.gif
I only saw 2 WWII-movies: The thin red line and Enemy at the gates. The thin red line was boring cause he was too long (in my opinion) but I really liked Enemy at the gates with the shooting, sniping,... |
"A bridge too far" is really really good. I'm also fond of "The Longest Day" despite being so incredibly fake at times lol. There's so many good ones. Memphis Belle was great, as was Kelly's Heros and The Dirty Dozen. Man, I haven't seen The Dirty Dozen in YEARS, I need to rent that again soon!
------------------ Grossdeutschland Division. http://dba.gamepoint.net/images/GD_Soldier.jpg http://dba.gamepoint.net/images/GD.gif |
well the best ww2 movie of all time is saving private ryan by a longshot, but the best thing to ever happen to television was band of brothers, but since band of brothers isnt a movie i cant say its my favorite.
thin red line was ok but reeeeeeaaaaaaallllllly slow at times enemy at the gates was cool too but doesnt hold a candle to spr ------------------ WWRD? What Would Rambo Do? |
It's not a wwII movie but A&E's "Lost Battalion" was a good wwI movie. For wwII i have to go with SPR. I really want to see "Band of Brothers" so does anyone know when it comes out on dvd? I checked HBo website but couldnt get any info.

Pearl Harbor was disrepectful to history. It turned a tragic event into an action fest.
I hope in 50 years we dont have movies with people jumping off the WTC and having their guts spilled everywhere. ------------------ I am your surrogate mother |
Ok, first off, whoever said "Thin Red Line sucked".... did not realize what this movie was about. First off it wasn`t about the war, thats why you didn`t like it, it isn`t action. The movie was about humanity, and the setting happened to be World War 2. But anyways besides that, some other good World War 2 classics are movies such as Von Ryans Express (a movie featuring Frank Sinatra), The Bridge at Remagan, The Bridge on the River Kwai (about POWs in a Japanese labour camp who have to build a bridge...), and also the Guns of Navarone, with the sequel named Force 10 from Navarone.

stalingrad
|
Ive always liked Battleground, Patton is also pretty entertaining, BOB was a cool series that I liked allot. Stalingrad was a very interesting movie, its nice to see things in a diff perspective. I have to see when trumpets fade and cross of iron.
SPR was very cool, but everyone likes SPR, enemy at the gates was alright, but it had allot of hollywoodishness to it. But not horrible. The thin red line just didnt do it for me I was excited about it but I ended up getting very bored with it, and then at the end of the movie I realized I had 2 of the characters confused and thought they were one guy, it kinda ruined the whole thing. Theres so many WW2 movies from the 50's and 60's that are just trash really. Thats what I like about battleground its an old ww2 movie thats actually damn good. ------------------ -Frost http://home.maine.rr.com/rba/fsig2.jpg |
The Longest Day is a good movie as well, it is an older one too.
|
I think the best ww2 movie is Stalingrad.
------------------ http://dba.gamepoint.net/images/lonewolf.jpg 5th SS Panzer Division Wiking |
of course "saving private ryan"
And the L33t movie "Enemy at the gate" ------------------ R3skeEn |
