Tutorial : Changing the name of a weapon the easy way

For those of you who have been wondering how you can change the weaponname without editing the localization.txt file, here is a tutorial for you :

(Using BAR as an example)

1. Open the Pak0/ui folder and make a copy of the hud_ammo_bar.urc file. Make sure to copy it into your own /ui folder. (Of course if you have another weapon, the .urc file will be named for that weapon.)

2. Now, open your copy of hud_ammo_bar.urc and scroll down to the last section, which should be the weaponname section.

3. Right below the line that says name "weaponname", add in this line, replacing WeaponNameHere with the name you want to use for the weapon :

title "WeaponNameHere"

4. Now, below your new line you will see a line that says itemstat 1. Delete that line, as that line is what tells the game to show the real name of the gun you are using, which in this case would be BAR.

5. Now, save the .urc file and pack it up with the rest of your mod and your new weapon will have it's own name without messing around with anything complicated.

Oh and no worries. This is a clientside change, so no need to worry about the server having it as well.

If you are having any problems with this, add me to your MSN Messenger by adding MPowell1944@hotmail.com to your contactlist.

I will be making an official tutorial covering this and hopefully it will be posted on a couple of sites shortly. Thanks and good luck.

Thanks a lot i change my weapon names now. Just they are now so cool! evil: zooka: M16:

MPowell1944 04-22-2003 08:49 PM

lol. No problem. I know how much of a pain is was to mess with renaming in the .tiki files and having the hand viewmodel disappear and whatnot. This just struck me and I smacked myself for not realizing it earlier.

k-i-a 04-23-2003 07:11 AM

Lol yeah, i think it's cool being able to make your own skins and stuff like that hehehehehehehe biggrin:

k-i-a 04-26-2003 02:27 AM

Ow yeah thank's for the name's!

RUNGSI 04-27-2003 11:34 AM

the ammo.urc file is calling to the name in your weapons .tik file
Just edit this line in your weapons .tik file:
classname Weapon
weapontype mg
name "BAR" <--- right there

just change that to your weapons name and then include your new weapons hud_ammo_.urc file

example for a M3A1 greasegun
m3a1.tik file:
classname Weapon
weapontype smg
name "M3A1"

then make a .urc file named
hud_ammo_m3a1.urc
and edit the toplinein the urc
menu "hud_ammo_M3A1"

MPowell1944 05-01-2003 10:28 PM

Yes, while this does create its own .urc file, the game then dosen't recognize the gun and does not draw the hand or gun model. How would we remedy this situation?

Dr. Deleto 05-02-2003 01:07 AM

just pour some tussin on it! itll be fixed in no time!

MPowell1944 05-02-2003 07:57 AM
