Dsl vs. Cable

there is growing fight were i live of which is better DSL or CABLE
I say cable

Zoner 04-15-2003 10:43 AM

I've had both and find both comparable.

I have DSL now, so I'll say DSL. biggrin:

It really depends on your location and the level of service you purchase. Locally, our cable is superior to dsl, at least from my experience.

Fireal 04-15-2003 10:48 AM

what service do you have...
Im looking for new service but there is only one cable company in Albuqueruque

descry 04-15-2003 10:49 AM

CABLE

04-15-2003 10:54 AM

CABLE!

Drew 04-15-2003 10:59 AM

As was said earlier, it depends on the service you purchase.

Speakeasy DSL completely decimates any competition by offering 1.5mb/768kb up/down speeds. Cable, at best, will generally give you 1.5mb/300kb - and that is at best. Quite often your upload speeds will be closer to 100kb, or even less if there is high traffic.

I have cable, by the way. Only because Speakeasy isn't offered here.

It all depends on your town/city. If you live in a town, which most likely hasn't upgraded their phone lines in 25 years... then you're best bet is to get cable.

However, if you live in a big city that keeps up with the times... you might find DSL mor rewarding.

That pretty much sums it up. Pest, you're guilty of anticipatory plagiarism!
biggrin: and mad:

Bazooka_Joe 04-15-2003 01:32 PM

Cable, although ADSL can be better than both.

Webb 04-15-2003 01:45 PM

i have used rogers cable and bell sympatico dsl and my dsl line has never gone down once, but the rogers cable was down at lease 3 to 4 time a month from anywhere between 1 to 8 hours down,

sooo i willl have to go with dsl

andrew 04-15-2003 02:04 PM

i haven't read this all so i'm sorry if someone's already said this, but i'd go with cable, but the problem with cable is that if lots of people are on the server it tends to be a bit laggy, but not too much. problem with dsl is... well, it's just not as cool as cable!

so, ya, cable fo shizzle...

Tiwaz 04-15-2003 02:10 PM

Depends on a lot of things. If you pay more, you have more bandwidth. Goes for cable, goes for (a)dsl. Not with each company though.

I prefer cable, although my upload speed is REALLY crappy (128 kbit/s ~16 kB/s). Ping (online gaming) is good: around 50, typically (on servers near me of course).
Download is fine; 200+ kB/s on average. Maximum of 350.

To have a download speed like that on ADSL, well, I'll have to pay a lot more. Downloading and ping is what counts, at least for me.

To leech or to be leeched, that is the question. You can guess what goes for me, sorry, biggrin:

cameltoe 04-15-2003 02:46 PM

its weird here , my uncle gets almost 3 kbits download with cable while with dsl i get like close to 1.5 kbits. my dad also pays more for this shit so im stuck with dsl for a while altho cable seems better where he lives

Slinky2397 04-15-2003 06:45 PM

Mine is 256k/256k (More like 180k/128k I say) And we pay $40, while with Comcast, we could get 1.5mbps/256K (I could care less about upload..) for $42.95, but my DSL (MSN/Qwest, extremely shitty) goes down at least 3-4 times a day, and at my other house, we're lucky it isn't down when we turn the computer on, so we're hopefuly changing it.

Bucknub 04-15-2003 07:19 PM

I have some type of cable that gives 3000k down and 300k up... though it costs 50 bucks a month.. Its really good when you can actually find a good server, one time i got 9-12 ping on one.
