At wits end with DC cuz of horrible fps.
I thought i would make this new thread about dc, because frankly, im losing my mind. Whenever i i hit certain places in maps, my fps drops below 10, and in some cases it completely freezes...and by the time it comes back, im already dead. For example(s): when i play the midway map for dc...whenever i spawn on the iraqi carrier and attempt to fly a mig or the hind-my frames per second come to a screeching halt. I have tried everything graphically and soundwise...ive even turned it all the way down and ran my rez at 800x600. My specs are quite formidable and should be able to handle this with no problems.
P4 1.5 512 rd pc800 ram asylum gf4 ti 4600 128mb ddr windows xp prof w/ sp 1 i really enjoy the dc mod, but at this point, its unplayable and i cant have fun anymore with it because of this. Yes, i have all the current drivers for my soundcard and vid card. i just dont understand this. plz help! SW-14 have you heard of this problem? cry: all of my other games run fine. (vietcong gets a little hairy sometimes...but its ok) i would like to get this issue resolved cuz i love dc mwah: |
I only play DC on el almain & with under 15 people. it starts to get a little chuggy when the server reaches 15. oh but really pisses me off is that i cant bomb because when im in the plane & flying over the enamy base, as im approcing the base its fine but as soon as i begin to cross over it freezes up & dosent unfreeze for 2 seconds which im past the base. makes it quite dificult to bomb mad:

BTW my specs: PII 350MHZ
192mb RAM GF2 mx 400 |
BTW my specs: PII 350MHZ
192mb RAM GF2 mx 400[/quote:5ec97] ???? is this BF'42: DC? coz i have a better comp than tht and it dusnt work 4 me... |
yup bf 1942 DC V3.0
|
here is a screenshot i took on my computer, this is norml BF1942 though. this is with all the settings maxed out. oh & i must remind you my computer is only 1/2 of the MIN specs of the box (PIII 500mhz)
BTW my specs: PII 350MHZ
192mb RAM GF2 mx 400[/quote:17a0c] Sorry, but...get a faster computer if you want to play it. It is below the minimum system requirements. Very much below. I don't think you will get better performance, no matter what you do, with this computer. |
i get DAMN good perfomance considering my computer & the game im playing. oh & sure il get a new computer, you wanna pay for it cause i cant? biggrin:
|
yup bf 1942 DC V3.0[/quote:74fdb]
i think i will have a go... |
PM me your account number and we'll make some arrangement, biggrin:
And, if it makes you feel any better, I have been using a Pentium 60 Mhz. until April 2001. So I know how it feels to have a computer that is not the fastest available, hehe. The fastest computer available at that moment was a Pentium IV 1.4 Ghz, I think. I had: P60 48 MB of RAM (good old fast page) 4 MB video 1.5 GB HDD 14' monitor Playing MP3's used 60% CPU, oOo: |

oh no, i can't actually, my graphics card dusn't have "hardware transform and lighting" |
I know for a fact the carrier has a glitch, and I think it's due to the new deck texture. Whenever I try to bomb the carrier when flying over it with the Harrier, my game drops to like 2FPS, until I get the carrier off my screen. I think it's a glitch, hopefully SW-14 know's about it.
As for the game itself, yes it is a bit more laggy than the regular BF1942, but thats due to all the modding. Hopefully EA and Dice will support the mod, and pick it up, and make it more compatible for BF1942. |
Jaybird, is that Joe's old computer?
|
Jaybird, is that Joe's old computer?[/quote:04eae]
Yeah, he's right. His specs are exactly like my other PC, and the game runs fine. Scrotum, $350 plus S&H will get you a P4 1.5Ghz, an Asus mobo, 512MB PC-800 RDRAM, a 350W Power Supply, Black Antec/Alienware case W/Window & 4 80MM fans, and a 80GB HD. |
i have this problem but only when flying. the game runs fine for me when doing ground stuff, but as soon as i get into a plane and start bombing i see all kinds of lag ... i think its because of all the extra smoke from the explosions. i did see an increase in fps when i dropped the settings down to low. if you set everything low and leave texture at high the game will still look ok. hmm. maybe adjusting the view distance would help ?
|
thats $550 canadian there joe ;) & im working on it. freak:
|
so basically im shit out of luck then. i guess i will try only playing in 15 to 18 player servers then. i have tried every graphic slider this way and that, and it all makes no diff. oOo: cry: it happens to me in tanks too...when i go over the bridge in market garden...or bocage bridge...fps drop to under 10...unplayable
|
Hmm...I haven't really had any problems playing on 50+ people servers, unless the server sucks. It only happens when you're flying, on a carrier, or driving a tank over a bridge?

I got the lag from bombing the carrier. Map was Iwo Jima, I was Axis. |
when I got in a firefight, there was a chopper,A-10,Ah-64 and the Su25 just all round us. Man, now that was CHOP! After most of us died it stopped..
|
i always have my view distance at 100 other wise it makes it impossable to shoot planes down or snipe cause they dissapear too quickly. BTW joe how well does your system play vf? the one your selling?
|
edit: BF not VF oOo:

Very nicely. Loads maps in about 20 - 30 seconds, tell me the cmd for FPS, and I'll give you the digits. |

??? eek: |
oh nm i get it. ok the command is console.showfps 1 & can you see what FPS with you get with the settings on max, on a DC server with about 45 people playing & on...um what map is a realy FPS killer? & can you take a screenshot? im just wondering how it would do.

OK, I took some screenies, with different scenarios. I set the game settings to as follows: Resolution - 1280x960x32 Detail - All highest View Distance - 100% Also, in my Graphics Card's settings in the Contol Panel, I set the buffer to triple, Z buffer to 24, and Anti-Aliasing to 4X. I have: P4 1.5Ghz 400mhz FSB, Socket 423, 512MB of PC-800 RDRAM, Asus Mobo, Visiontek Xtasy GeForce 4 Ti 4600 AGP 4X 128MB, and WinXP Pro W/ SP1. Now here's what I got. Since the pics were huge, I just cut the FPS out. All pics were taken on the Tobruk map, and I was on Axis. I'll tell you the seneario for each: This is from just respawning. There are 4 others in the spawn with me, 1 building, no vehicles: This is from the cockpit of the HIND. The cockpit frame is showing, and there are two explosions going off, with two missiles in mid-flight: This was from flying over the battle area. There's 4 infantry, 2 tanks, and 1 HMMVUE: This is from getting hit from an Apache missile, the apache takes up 80% of the screen: This is me on a hilltop looking at the battle. Both the HIND and Apache are visable, and take up about 10% of the screen. 3 buildings, 2 tanks, and 5 infantry are visible: This is a flyover of open terrain from the HIND. No vehicles or infantry, just some barbwire & bushes. This is from the inside of the BRDM, with the inside view on (As if you are looking out a window): |
thats awsome! ed: i wasent expecting so many screens! thanks joe! my computer right now with all settings on low hovers around 15 fps on el almain. unless theirs action which it drops normally to 10. I really want that upgrade now!
|
i had to revive my thread here...i have downloaded 3 different versions of .3N dc mod...i have uninstalled and installed all 3 thinking that my problem was with a faulty version or something...in each one i have horrendous fps!!!!!!!111111111 what the fuck! seriously, 2 of my clan members downloaded the same dc from the same site http://www.bf42.com/index.php?site=download&id=52
and im on ts2 with them tonight...i ask them "you guys getting frozen when you go in hind and tanks and stuff in firefights?" their reply "no man mine is smooth as can be..." i have a fucking gf4 ti4600 card! with plenty of ram...i just am at a loss for words here, i do not know why this is happening. everyone else runs dc smooth with no problems, but i am still getting fps under 10!!!!1 my view distance is at 71 % my grahics sliders are almost max and i dont have environment mapping or anything else checked to improve performance. with my rig there is no way in HELL this should be happening. i am completely frustrated with this, because i love playing dc, i cant imagine how much more fun i would be having if i can actually play a god damn game without freezing in vehicles. GOD DAMNIT FUCK IT!!!!!!!!!!1111111111111111111111111 cry: cry: cry: cry: cry: |
Well, many of Battlefield's problems have been caused by sound related issues. What sound quality are you running? How many channels? Are you using hardware acceleration? What sound card do you have (if you have one)?
|
my sound card is the Turtle Beach Santa Cruz...right now i am running sound at medium with 32 channels...i believe hardware accel is off. i will go right now and mess with the sound settings, as since it was graphical fps prob i didnt mess with sound too much. ill post back
|
yeah well i used to have problems with bf1942 then i just turned hardware accleration on and put the channels at 64 and it runs smooth now.
|
... oOo: i dont see how turning the sound up would make it run smoother, because logic would tell you if im getting bad fps, then turning hardware accel on and boosting the channels would constitute even more cpu power usage. maybe you were joking ....anyways sw-14 i tried putting the sound on the lowest possible settings with the lowest amount of channels...and i hopped back into the server i had been playing on all night with the lag. I must say, i was able to drive and fly with minimal lag, a definate improvement. however, since i turned the sound down so low i cant hear any of the sound effects except for firing weapons oOo: i cant hear engine sounds, or helicopter sounds etc. this really detracts from the coolness of this game, as sound is an integral part of it. anyways i guess ill just have to live with this shitty sound in order to play without humoungus lag. kind of a give and take cry:
|
Actually, Office Depot might be right. Try turning on hardware acceleration and sound to either 22 or 44 khz and see if it runs smooth.
|
oOo: oOo: oOo: omg office depot you are right! im sorry i dissed you i thought you were f'n with me lol biggrin: I FINALLY GOT IT YEAHHHHHHHHHHOWWWWWWWWWWWWWWW awesome! i put my sound up to 44khz with hardware accell on and sound quality to 100% and to my amazement NO LAG! i am really confused on why turning the sound up to max would reduce lag...but anyway i dont care cuz it works finally w0000000tttttttttttttt evil: evil: happy: happy:

yeah all i needed was to change the sound options oOo: anyways, its a pretty decent machine, but its not Hillary Duff worthy eh swill? ed: eek: biggrin:

Why did you ever doubt me? happy:
|
oOo: cuz i thought you were kidding, plus it really doesnt make sense. turn up your sound options would = more cpu usage, i dunno, the point is it works now and thats all i care about biggrin:
