why dont we celebrate it here in the US?

Because we save up to go to a mexican restaurant to drink beer on cinco de mayo.

What is the significance of may day, anyway?

I believe that the US and Canada share Labor Day.

I think celebrating May Day would be more logical though, since we really need a break from school towards finals, NOT two weeks after the start of the first semester as Labor Day does.

Why would a student want to celebrate a day set aside for people in the workforce? biggrin:

because they close the schools and university duh!

I'd keep the schools open. You don't pay income tax, therefore you don't get the holiday...heh heh.

what about the teachers?

you don't suggest we make kids go to school without supervison, there would be no school left.

Hrm, I guess they adopted it. It might not be an "official" nationally observed day, though.

actually it was a holiday before the communists, but it makes sense that the communists adopted a workers holiday, since communists claimed to do what was best for the common man.
