The next version of the Mustard Gas mod needs you!
Ok folks, its about time to up the stakes with the Mustard Gas. I need your help in deciding what the next version should include or what should be changed. I need to know how you feel about the amount and radius of damage, the color of the smoke, and anything else you want to note. I have several ideas, but I want some of yours to see if I can better my own. If I use your idea(s), you will get 100% credit for them in the readme.txt. Thanks and please post as many ideas as you want.

Well I haven't seen it because I don't have Spearhead, but could you give some stats for those who haven't seen it? Also, is the next version the one for allied assault or spearhead again?

Right now, all teams have the same mustard color smoke. I was thinking about having different shades of yellow for each team in the next version.
The damage is as follows. Standing in the smoke will kill you in 8 seconds. That would bring the damage to be around 11-12 health per second. The radius as of now is about 7 feet away from the core of the smoke. Thats the specs as of right now. I was also thinking about having 6 canisters for every gun, and having the smoke last longer as well, to encourage the use of the Mustard Gas, and to encourage tactics with it. Please post your thoughts on these ideas, along with your own ideas. I am open to just about everything, as long as it isn't ridiculous like the scooby snacks post. |
Stats seem alright to me. Killing somone if they stand it for 8 seconds seems fair, but how long does the gas itself last?
Sorry to ask again, but is the next version goign to be for allied assault or spearhead? |
The gas itself lasts for 24 seconds.

you sould make a delay before it goes off cause if you throw one and cant away fast enough that would suck ass

i would like a longer delay for fire rate... people just seem to toss them pointlessly and fill up rooms as they run. which is fun and all, but i just though a longer time between nades would make the levels not have such a high concentration of gas in one part

Well as it stands, every gun gets 1. The rocket gets 0, and the Kar98k gets 2. So spamming them isn't possible. Thats why I'm wondering how many I should include for each gun. Leave it stock or change it?
About colors of smoke. I don't want to stray away from the mustard gas theme of yellow. So red would be out of the question. |
I like your asking of the community on their ideas. I belive that more than 2 canister per person would be too much gas, and that they would start trowing gas like crazy.
I don't know if you have implemented this, but the gas should kill EVERYONE regardless of what team they are on, and the FF status, but I don't know what other people would think, I'm just pointing out realism. You may want to consider adding a few gas masks in to the maps that can be used (use the view from MOHAA single player) though I do not know if you could see a difference in a third person perspective. Also the throwing distance shouldn't be too big, I think the range or the smoke nades or a little less would be perfect. |
Well, 1 canister isn't much and more than 2 or 3 would be too much. So I'll go ahead and give every weapon 2 canisters.
I have not figured out how to get the smoke to kill everyone even with FF off. Anyways, I think most folks wouldn't enjoy that. We would only be boxing in our own team along with the enemy team. Adding usable gas masks to the stock maps would probably be impossible. I would have to have a use trigger for when they pick it up, and thats what would make it most difficult. But, I could automatically have every player have a gas mask on from the start. I need your thoughts on this. Throwing distance matches smoke grenade specs. |
Not sure how it would work with everyone starting with gas masks, would they lose them after they die? Perhaps certain players could get masks too (I have to admit I hav NO idead how you would do this I only skin things)
And I can see what you are saying about killing teammates with the gas, but perhaps you can at least make the gas kill the person who throws it. Personally I like your gas the way it is, but I suppose everything has room for some smll tweaks. Lemme know if you need any help at all I'd be glad to help. |
Ok, I have messed with the colors that I think you all might like. What I did was take the mustard smoke color thats there now, and added a small amount of color that the original smoke for each team used. So for the Allied smoke I added some red, Axis I added some green, and I left the Soviet smoke the same.

The smoke kills the player who threw it, by default.

To be honest, i wouldn't change much about it. The number you get is fine, the damage is ample without being too much, and mustard gas is mustard gas, so the color probably wouldn't vary noticably from Army to army. The only thing i could fault would be the skin on the cannister (for the British/Americans, at least), still says 'Smoke' on it. you might consider amending that skin.
Other than that, i seriously wouldn't fiddle with it that much. |
Well, some folks have complained about team colors, so thats why I tried this out. Not a public release or anything. So basically, should I even make a 2nd version? I want to do something further with it, but not sure exactly what to do to make it stand out more.

ive been using it on my server since it was released. my players love it. i think if i were to change anything about it i would make it last longer. maybe tweak the damage up just a bit more. that way if your in a room and one comes in..you better get goin. and lasting longer you could use it to block and exit or other passage ways the enemy might be comming from. my server is free for all so theres a lot of gas flyin around in there..lol..one last thought..i dont know the name of it but the rifle that shots the nades..increase the range of the nade and replace it with the mustard gas. now that would be very cool.

I've already been working on 2.0 and thats the first thing I changed. I added 5 seconds to the life of the smoke.

Well, I could setup the AA version now if I wanted to. But there is a problem with the model in 3rd person view. If you look at a player holding it, the model moves when they walk in diff. directions. It shifts in their hand. Thats the problem that I'm trying to avoid fixing until I get this SH version done. I'll have a look at it though and see what I can do to fix it. Once that is fixed, an AA version can be created immediately.

Well is it workable now or is that bug too fucked up to even use the nades? Either way its up to you. It'll be good too finally get them in aa.

No, its not stopping the nades from working at all. Infact, I could have the AA version up by Friday if I wanted to, but I like to perfect the mods before I release them. I'll look into it ASAP so I can get an AA version out the door.

ive never tried this mod so i might be stating something that is already done , but if you throw the mustard gas canister (im assuming u replaced the smoke grenades) there will be a smoke trail comming from where you threw it, this would have to be taken out and replaced with a delayed discharge. Also mustard gas is yellow no red, making it red would make it gay. I think leaving it the same colour would just make it more realistic.
