i kinda like the scene in Platoon when they were doin there stake out and that one dude fell asleep on his shift while the vietnamese people snuck up on them during the night for a ambush.
|
I personally liked the last battle scene in SPR in that war-torn French town. So much suspense builds up as they are sitting around listening to music, while the sound of squeeky tanks heading their direction shakes the city. that sounded so awesome in the movie theater!

The scene in Stalingrad where the Germans are assaulting the Russian front line, in the streets. Awesome stuff.

Id have to agree with Bluedevil. SPR is one of the only movies that made me shake.. I mean... I was sooo tensed up watching it. It was accurate and realistic. One of the best War movies of all of time.

I'm asking you. Please briefly explain it for everyone...
Mine would be in the Thin Red Line, when the soldiers are walking through the fog and bullets are whizzing past them, then all these Japanese soldiers charge through the fog, Lots of stabbing and chaos occurs. Hans Zimmers music really sets the scene... And on a minor note I'm announcing that tommorows Fact of the Day will be my last, for the rest of my life...Unless I feel like writing another one! http://www.pcgamers.net/ubb/frown.gif |

Without a doubt, SPR and the two climactic scenes of A: the landing and B: the town as the Tiger tank and company of Germans moved in. Great buildup!
I've never walked out of a theater so affected by a movie as SPR. Same goes for my wife... She doesn't like violence in movies but she said she didn't mind watching the SPR blood and gore because it was so realistic. Dave T ------------------ Thank you U.S. WWII combat veterans |

If J.Patterson wanted to state his opinion about his fav. battle scene , REGARDLESS if it was a vietnam movie or not... he should have the freedom of speech too .. It was uncalled for what Puff said ... Thats my opinion... ------------------ http://www.3rdInfantry.homestead.com/files/bladesig.jpg |

i'd hafta say the best WWII battle scene would be the bridge scene @ Ramelle in SPR. its one of the first WW2 movies to use real German tanks since Kelly's Heros. Where Spielberg found those Panzers is beyond me but it really helps add to the realism rather than seeing an Old Sherman with Iron Crosses painted on it shooting at Allies. Thats the type of battle i'm looking forward to in Allied Assault (with Tigers and Halftracks coming in from all sides with nothing more than like 2 dozen guys to fend it off) Its really a tribute to the soldiers and shows us who weren't there exactly what type of horrors those soldiers faced. Everything in that movie is true to what really happened in those fights. Read Stephen Ambrose's D-Day which is almost entirly soldier's first person account's of what happened. Its almost like you can see SPR being born directly out of those soldier's mouths. Really you all should read that book, I have gained so much more new respect for our veteran's after reading that book. It's great that they are buildign a memorial to honor our veterans with as well in Washington, God know's they have earned it. Sorry I'm going on and on so i'll let all of you go.
Never forget what our soldiers fought for. |
I agree with Von P The thin red line scene was my favorite. It had great music that built up the tension then all of a sudden the japs come running out of the fog.
|
I've got a problem with SPR, I don't like the way the historical facts (except the first 20 minutes) are forgotten.
There were so many TRUE and dramatic stories during the D-Day so I can't understand (or I don't want to) why Spielberg decided to make his movie using an "Hollywodian" scenario (to show Tigers & Waffen-SS?) Nevertheless, on the D-DAY, Paratroopers of the 2nd battalion of the 507th PIR fought near Cauquigny. Lt Louis Levy and 10 men, stopped a column of german infantry supported by old-french Renault tanks, destroying several tanks with Gammon grenades and a bazooka. Just read the book "US Airborne invasion of Normandy" by SLA Marshall and you'll find tons of TRUE stories like this one. SgtPerry |
That Thin Red Line scene was awesome and by far my fav..
But the scene that also got me thinking was the scene in Enemy At The Gates in the beggining where the Russians charge the German line only to be mowed down, then the last retreating Russians get shot by their own officers and men cuzz they retreating.. The Officers are yelling "FOR STALIN" and "NOONE RETREATS!". That had to be horrible and i heard they really did that stuff.. Imagine surviving all that only to be killed by ur own men. Also When The Trumpets Fade when they running through the forest wit mines and explosions.. that was cool |
according to a russian veteran, only one in four people in his unit (a 'rifles' unit) even had a gun!
|
I would have to say the scene in 'the longest day' when the 101st mis-drops in the middle of town and the Feldgenmarie (german military police) open up on them with everything they got
|
i really like movies or anything about beach landings so i would have to say the landings on the movie longest day(even tho they werent accurate as crap) and the landings on SPR and even the ending part that would have to be kinda spooky listening to the tanks squeak as they move towards you.
