1stPersonView in Spectate is here.

Thats right, you heard me correctly. I have managed to allow 1stPersonView while you are in Spectator. This only works with rcon, so serveradmins would be the only ones that can use this. There are 2 configs that come with this mod. 1 to enable 1stPersonView, and 1 to disable it. Once I write up the configs, I will release the mod here.

This mod works for both AA and SH. There will be seperate downloads for each because some of the values differ.

Thanks.

sounds cool, hope to see that mod on more servers

KTOG 05-16-2003 05:19 PM

Sounds good, you always have aM to help you beta test.

Nice job powell. That's one i've been waiting for for quite some time

Infernal_ 05-16-2003 07:08 PM

do you think you can put a crosshair in it matbe so we can see if they are cheating or not? i dont think its possible and i know the Q3 engine EXTREMELY well im not sure on this though depends what way you found out how to do this

MPowell1944 05-16-2003 07:58 PM

Just to let everyone know, this isn't a perfect 1stPersonView. I had to set the numbers just right so it wouldn't clip into the body but still be able to show the view that have. Even though it isn't perfect, it displays a good enough effect to get the job done.

Regarding a crosshair. Right now I do not know about drawing a crosshair in spectator. But I do have some ideas I might look at.

Thanks for the comments.

Always liked Counter-Strike for that reason, keep up the good work Powell.

powell, i just wanted to say people like you've took a better step in revolutinoizing spectator experience for mohaa. kep up GREAT work

MPowell1944 05-17-2003 01:58 PM

Ok everyone, big update. I finally got the hand/gun in view without alot of clipping in the view. Tested it on the NOTF server for AA and the Stripes server for SH. Both thought the views were as good as they will get, because they prefer to see the hand/gun while spectating.

On a sidenote, the hands/gun won't look like the ones in 1st person view, b/c that is a totally different model. Seems that the makers of the game decided to do crappy renditions of the 3rd person model. Figures.

Anyways, here are the screenshots. This mod is scheduled to release tommorrow. Hopefully I can get crosshairs on the screen for the next version. Enjoy.

MPowell1944 05-17-2003 02:12 PM

Oh, before I forget. While taking these screenshots I caught 2 cheaters wallhacking. Damn that was fun. lol

Kyril VIII 05-17-2003 02:30 PM

Looks good, can't wait to use it on our server, will the server admin still have to have the cheat mods in his game folder to be able to see a player using them?

MPowell1944 05-17-2003 02:36 PM

No cheats come with this mod. Basically, watch them in spectator and you will catch them when they slip up. Whether or not an admin uses cheats themselves to catch a cheater is up to them.

05-17-2003 02:43 PM

Can't wait for this one, need a tester, look no further. eek:

KTOG 05-17-2003 04:12 PM

Looks very promising.

OFFTOPIC: What hex-editor do you use?

MPowell1944 05-17-2003 04:42 PM

The one I used is called FRHED.

i told my guys about this new mod and their very excited about it. thanks for your hard work on creating these mods that make this game better for everyone. ill be watchin for the release.

MPowell1944 05-17-2003 05:41 PM

Your welcome Butch. biggrin:

Kyril VIII 05-17-2003 06:05 PM

My apoligies,I was in no way insinuating that any cheats came with the mod,was just wondering if we needed to put things like the cham skins in our folders in order to see them thru a cheating players eyes or if we will see the skins w/o having to put them on our machines. Thanks for your quick reply and keep up the awesome work bro, love your no buttscoot mod :)

MPowell1944 05-17-2003 06:25 PM

Not a problem at all. While the mod itself does help alot against cheats, applying the cheats themselves while spectating a suspicious player can make it 10x easier to bust them.

MPowell1944 05-17-2003 06:50 PM

Here is another teaser screenshot from Spearhead. Text was disabled for the screenshot. Don't be fooled, this is in spectator mode. biggrin:

uh,-what? eek:
Whatever, Powell, you arew AWESOME!! If only EA was made up entirely of people like you... But an easy way to tell if someone is hacking, watch in spec and theyll usually follow someone with their crosshairs through walls

MPowell1944 05-17-2003 09:25 PM

Yeah. I could easily setup the hud to draw crosshairs as well, I just been busy with the main part of the mod. Crosshairs are next.

might be a good idea to incorporate a menu to switch off 1st person/3rd person view, crosshair on/off, and admin chams for spectating.

Dr. Deleto 05-17-2003 11:31 PM

man Powell.keep up the good work. this kicks ass. oh and whats the con command for disabling death text btw?

MPowell1944 05-17-2003 11:35 PM

There isn't an ingame command for text. Thats a .tga revision I made. Though I have always wanted to create a new cvar for text. Maybe cg_GameText 1 to enable it and cg_GameText 0 to disable it.

Regarding menus, that would be alittle too much. Configs will do fine.

Dr. Deleto 05-18-2003 02:57 AM

powell, Ill test this for ya if ya like. oh and I figured the text thing out like 5 seconds after I posted that last post. lol. but thanks anyways. also, tell Bruno to get me on msn tommorow as I had a great idea that he may be interested in.

Kemikalie 05-18-2003 08:15 AM

Very very nice! good if ur a beginner and wanna see how proofs play and aim to :)
Offtopic: wreally nice weapon skins! did u do themself or are they released?(or maybe both)

Captain_McCusker 05-18-2003 08:26 AM

Hey, Powell, looks good. Just wanted to throw an opinion in here. Seems like there's a little discussion going on about using cheats with this mod to catch cheaters. I would just like to say that adding the two together in the same subject seems to me to be similar to talking about cheat websites on aa.com forums, no? I think if you're interested enough in using a cheat to see if someone's cheating, figure it out in private as through public discussion you're bound to teach a few of the novices how to cheat.... and what's worse, is how to cheat with common detections in mind.

Just a thought.

In any case, it does look good. Sounds like you moved the 3rd person camera into the face of the 3rd person model, is that correct? Is there no way to just change to the first person camera?

MPowell1944 05-18-2003 10:16 AM

The only reason I mentioned the use of admins with cheats to catch cheaters is b/c someone was wondering if that could be used with the mod.

About the camera, yeah I readjusted it as best as possible in front of the eyes. I have been thinking about how to draw that first person viewmodel and how they have a camera attached to the player's eyebone. If I could figure that out, then we could have the real 1st person view and that would be 10x better than this.

That wasn't aimed directly at you, but a general thought. Even the best intentions of stopping cheaters can be used BY cheaters to make it harder on the anti-cheats, know what I mean?

What I was saying is, is it not at all possible to use the same attrib's of the 1st person? I mean, seems like you're reinventing the wheel here. Don't get me wrong, I haven't a clue what has to be done. Seems like you would only do this if it were impossible to use the 1st person for spectate. Since you're obviously reverse engineering to do this in the first place, couldn't you just find all of the attrib's set up for first person play? A good place to look would be the where the variable for third/first person boolean is defined. Should be able to find your way back to the actual definition from there, no?

MPowell1944 05-18-2003 11:17 AM

Actually, I am looking for that right now. As of now I know that the 1st person camera is attached to the eyebone of the player somehow. I been skimming through all of the .dll files and the .exe files but haven't found anything that shows how I can access this view from outside the player. I even went through every cvar command that can be used in the console. But, I am not going to stop trying with this. I know it can be done, there has to be a way.

A while back i was messing with camera's in one of those developer interfaces. And actually discovered there is no distinct eyebone. All you view is the weapon and part of an arm, once you are in the real 1st person view there is nothing much behind the hand and weapon. (maybe a poorly modeled weapon butt) I don't how exactly you are approaching this, are you going directly to 1st person view on the 3rd person model? Or are you getting the real 1st person view? Hopefully you can follow.

Well, sounds like he's currently using the 3rd person spectator view and modding it so the camera is basically inside the head or in front of the eyes of the model.

However, you're right about the 1st person modeling. There's really nothing there except the hands and weapon and in some cases a leg or two. biggrin: This is really evident to the novice/non-modder if they use a skin that does have a leg as you'll notice it never moves. I would attribute this modding to better performance. It's like farview: after a certain distance, your MOH engine is supposed to turn off any models so that it doesn't have to worry about rendering them as you really can't see them anyway. Not having to render them means less resources used and thus better performance.

It just seems odd to me that the SP/1st person view would be that hidden inside the engine. Not to say you're not doing your best. Just saying that it's so predominently used in both the SP and MP portions of the game... Hmmm, is all I'm saying. biggrin:
