anyone remember ther first time?

no not your "first time" ummm hmmm, but your first time playing online

its been so long but i remember not knowing anything about ping and going into a shitty UT server and wondering what was wrong with my pc when it was lagging like a m0f0, that and i was on 56k

ahhh, good times

05-27-2003 08:27 PM

I also remember my first double post

But i remember going online, back when i was 5. I would go into chat rooms and say

hi, im 5. Want to talk

and everyone would go "press 5 if you want to talk to a 5 year old" and theyd laugh

Back than, the fastest connection was 56K, dear God, those were horrible times

I think it was Starcraft for me. Ah how good I was at that game. (This is weird to talk about past times listening to ode to joy). ANyways. THe numbers of people I killed in that game are staggereing. Some games lasting well over 3 hours. mindblowing.

I think my first game ever online was Hellbender. Ah, does anyone remember that game? I loved it

Chronic Diarrhea 05-27-2003 08:39 PM

Yep, I sure remember the first game I played online. MOHAA. 2nd day of release. Southern France. TDM. 5 people. <100 ping. Got my ass handed to me on a silver platter. Loved every second of it. Now it is boring as hell. I miss Prado. Prado ruled.

Milla 05-27-2003 08:46 PM

I do indeed remember my first Mplayer experience, my friend introduced me to TFC and I would go over there after school and play for hours, that was back in 9th grade. I had no idea wtf i was doing, i just knew it was fun, now, i know what im doing, and its still fun biggrin:

Ferich 05-27-2003 08:50 PM

I remember rushing people in the first Age of Empires, hah, that was great. Or betraying people.

"Yeah, I'll put a giant Army in your Town ...to um, protect you."

Then switch them to enemy and watch the town burn to rubble, hah.

Slinky2397 05-27-2003 08:56 PM

I remember trying out HL on my old, old, old, computer with prodigy dial-up, I got so pissed off that the crabheads were moving back and forth and I couldn't hear them. After that, I played Diablo , and Starcraft. I remember getting kicked off prodigy so damn much, it got me so pissed off. I'd finally log in, get into a game with my friend, be moving around for a while, wondering why my text won't show up, 5 minutes later, "Connection failed" I threw down my headphones and let out a loud "FUCK!" my dad came down shortly after, I thought I was busted, but he said "I heard what you said, and I don't blame you!" I was like 9 or something, if he told me not to cuss he would be a big ass hypocrite.

One other memorable moment was at a cyber cafe, I was playing DoD for the first time, and I kept killing this guy right next to me, he got so flustered. When I got home, I noticed he was still on the server, so I played on there, and killed him some more, and he finally got off. Boy was that guy ticked, he was probably like 35 or something.

I loved SC, but then it got old. I was really good at it too and i loved the long battles.

05-27-2003 09:26 PM

first game I played online was Homeworld,
tried to stay away from MP before that because I thought the internet was full of feraks and weirdos, turns out that I was correct

Vance 05-27-2003 09:44 PM

cashwarsplaya 05-27-2003 09:58 PM

Bazooka_Joe 05-27-2003 09:59 PM

Duke Nukem 3D on my 33.6 modem. I stole my mom's credit card so I could join the Ten Network to play. It was great. biggrin:

Old Reliable 05-27-2003 10:00 PM

Sergeant_Scrotum 05-27-2003 10:50 PM

Airborne Butters 05-27-2003 10:56 PM

AvP was my first . Before that I had no concept of online games. Was playing it at my freinds house when I finally said "damn, this AI is really good" I was then informed it was other humans playing at 2 am. Since then I only play MP.

I didn't know Duke Nukem had MP?

Cpt. Obvious 05-27-2003 11:02 PM

My first online game was deer hunter 3. It was so horrible, my player would jump around the map because it was lagging so much. This guy said he shot me and i wasnt even anywhere near him. It was crazy.

1080jibber 05-27-2003 11:32 PM

[quote="Airborne Butters":86639]I didn't know Duke Nukem had MP?[/quote:86639]

Jedi Marksman 05-28-2003 01:22 AM

You're all going to laugh like hell, but my first online game was SWAT 3. Why? It was just the first time I had ever played a game online.

Webb 05-28-2003 03:03 AM

Delta Force 1

Sergeant John W Martin 05-28-2003 04:06 AM

LoL mine was Delta Force 2 and from that day ive never played offline!

gtboys34 05-28-2003 04:58 AM

mine was umm.... nfl 2k1 on the dcast( of course). That game was lagging like hell, well it wasnt so bad, it was just that the lag occured for like a whole entire second instead of ms's. This caused me much pain b/c it decreased my "expertice" of the game very much. My 1st online fps was mohaa, and my first game ever to play online on my pc was midtown madness 2.

gtboys34 05-28-2003 04:59 AM

btw, cant wait for madden 2004 to go online( gonna have some fun times)

Tiwaz 05-28-2003 05:18 AM

Doom, on a 133 Mhz. Nice experience.

pest 05-28-2003 07:42 AM

Q3 on a AMD400mhz and dial up. Didnt work too great. Starcraft and Revolt did much better on dial up. Got broadband shortly after and my wife filled up my HDD with napster.

descry 05-28-2003 07:45 AM

MOHAA was the first game i played online. I used to think that there was only one map because everyone used to play V2, but i soon figured out how to see what map was being played.

lol same with me, i still havent played Single Player for MOHAA and i've had it for about 2 years.

Zoner 05-28-2003 08:24 AM

My first online gaming experience was in 1993. Perilous Realms, a fantasy text-based MUD. Good times.

Slinky2397 05-28-2003 08:26 AM

I try SP out first on every game, I like to see what the main portion of the game features, online isn't a real great aspect for me in games, I don't play FPS online, because generally there are faggots who camp, blah, blah, blah. I only real play RTS games online, Diablo 2, SC, W3, AoM, RoN, and C&C Generals right now. I do play a few FPS online now though, RvS, VC, and DOD mainly.

05-28-2003 08:28 AM

when i first got broadband 2 years ago. crimson skis was the game... i fucking sucked but it was fun. i remember i didnt sleep for weeks. then i got my hands on the mohaa demo, havent stoppd playing since. i learned everything i know from you guys

LoneGunner87 05-28-2003 10:29 AM

My first online game was StarCraft Broodwar when i was 11 but my first first person shooter game was MOHAA when i was 13 or 14.

Simo Häyhä 05-28-2003 10:32 AM

Totenkopf 05-28-2003 11:10 AM

Ahhhhhh, the beginning of online play lasted about five minutes. UT on a 56K, with a 400 Mhz processer and a Voodoo2.

Don't know how I got hooked.

geRV 05-28-2003 11:17 AM
