Celebrity Encounters

Have any of you guys ever met anyone even moderately famous?

Well today, I was driving home from school, through the middle of down town Auckland, and I see three familiar Black Guys walking down the street on the left of me.
"Holy Shit" I say to myself, that's De La Soul. I flick the indicators and turn the car into a hotel parking lot, jump out with a pad and pen and stroll over to the trio who are walking in the opposite direction.

I introduce myself and ask for their autographs, we exchange some small talk, I shake their hands and walk off, in utter awe and amazement.

One of the coolest moments in my short life. Those guys are really cool.

I was kinda disapointed that I had missed their concert last night, but this made up for that, IMO.

Autographs:

Good damn I wish I had a camera then, this is the only proof I have of my encounter with arguably one of the greatest hiphop groups ever...

Have any of you guys had a similar experience with a any other celebrities? Maybe you know someone who knows someone?

Cool Fool 06-04-2003 03:23 AM

my friend is jennifer annistons cousin

Wilko 06-04-2003 03:44 AM

hmn. I saw Russell Crowe outside a Hotel once (Didn't ask for an Autograph, since he'd most likely punch me, or something). Also, i've met most of my favorite football players, plus the Admin of the team. I think my friend shook hands with Will Smith, as well.

Back in '93 I was shipping out to Hawaii for my duty station and was staying at the Marriot by San Diego. I was in the pool and some of them professional wrestlers came down to the pool. The Stiener brothers, Razor Ramone, and some other yahoo. I left the pool area and Lex Lugar (Coke Addict) was buying some shampoo in their little store. I didn't talk to them but it was pretty cool.

Old Reliable 06-04-2003 07:37 AM

yeah, i've met charles barkley and a whole bunch of others.

pest 06-04-2003 07:57 AM

I have met and talked to Jimmy Buffet in a restaurant /bar in the Keys. Nappy roots was on the same plane, a couple of rows up about a year ago. Talked to them a bit. And a friend of mine is good friends with tom petty's brother. Does that count? I have also met two governers, a friends mom was once secratary of state for FL, and numerous state legislators. Another friends dad is high enough in the armed services that his direct boss is the Joint chiefs of staff. I played highschool baseball with a guy that has been in the majors for 10 years, I think with the Tigers now, but he wasnt famous then. And back in my waiter days, I waited on Charlie Daniels and his band right before a show.

Funny, I was going to say no to your orignal ???, but the more I thought about it, I kept finding more. Its just goes to show, its a small world.

Funny, forgot about wrestling. My cousin is married to a former wrestler (turned ref, not famous), but they had a couple of wrestlers at their wedding. Cant remeber who, they werent the big ones, they had a big pay per view somewhere that week.

Stinger_Dude 06-04-2003 08:01 AM

Remeber shaking hands with an Argentina Rugby Player during the Rugby 7s.

Fireal 06-04-2003 08:08 AM

I was in denver, and the yankees came down and while they where warming up (they werent taking autographs that day, and i was right behind Soriano who was with jeter) Jeteer throws into the stand, and i catch the ball, and he signed a bakk that i had (He took the one i caught mad: )

Cpt. Obvious 06-04-2003 08:30 AM

I was in a Resort at Disney World. We were getting ready to leave and we just check out. Then in walks Gloria Estefan. My sister ran into her, not knowing who she was, and didnt even appologize. I was going to ask her for an autograph but a group of kids surrounded her so I didnt bother.

When I played basketball last year we played a team with Jeff Hostetlers son on it. I thought that was pretty cool cause his dad was sitting up in the stands with Don Nieland(former coach of the West Virginia Mountaineers) so I thought that was pretty cool.

Those are all my expierences

Airborne Butters 06-04-2003 01:08 PM

when I was about 5 yrs old, we lived in Long Island. MY sister was much older than me, about 15-17 I think and she went to John F Kennedy High School. Well one day she brought a freind over and I guess she spent the night or some shit. Well about 2 years later we moved down to Fl and we saw some stuff about Amy Fischer. Turns out that Amy Fischer, aka The Long Island Lolita, spent the night at my house! Whooooowa! I had a attempted murderer spend the night at my house!

Other than that I've met a lot of pro inliners because I used to really be into that. Also my family is personal freinds with Jerry Cooney.

at the Banff Springs Hotel last november me and my cousins saw david hasselhoff and his family near the elevators going up to our rooms. When we were getting on my cousin yells "baywatch sucks" out the elevator and david heard us. When we got off we were walking towards our rooms laughing and then we hear this voice behind us "do you have something to say to me" and there is some hugeass mother fucker in this white ski suit, none other than mr hassellhoff. So me and my cousins book it to our rooms scared shitless.

I've met a few.

- I watched the 2nd period of a Ranger/Islander game with Ranger Hall of Famer Rod Gilbert.
- I talked to Buddy McGirt after his loss to Pernell "sweetpea" Whitaker
- I bumped into Islander Wayne Merrick and make a smart aleck remark about Don Maloney running the Islander organization.
- Was watching game 6 of the '94 Stanley cup finals and had John Starks and Anthony Mason walk right up to me and asked what the score was. I told them and wished them luck on their Championship run.
- Met Boomer Esiason when he played for the NY Jets. I worked on his Fathers Ford Bronco
- Got a chance to hang out with NHRA Funny car champ John Force

Thats all i can recall at the moment.

YOU SUCK A lot of things

Ydiss 06-05-2003 02:06 AM

Plenty.

But then, I did used to work at Heathrow Airport.

Most of these only Brits will recognise (Football) but the one at the end most of you should know...

First famous encounter was with the 1995 Nottingham Forest team. Met Stan Collimore in his prime (yeh all 2 years of it) with a girl named "Gina" who he was intimate with... Of course I then saw in the papers 2 days later that he was having problems with his current girlfriend.. her name was not Gina...

Other notable one was Robbie Williams but that was only as he passed me in a crowded Terminal 4 with his entourage.

I met Sir Alex Ferguson, manager of Manchester United Football club. This was just after Man Utd had won the treble in that fantastic 1999 season. His son works for Goldman Sachs (huge and powerful American merchant bank) and he was visiting where he worked (and where I worked for a few months).

And, probably the most famous that I can recall right now was when I was lucky enough to fly on Concorde to New York.

I was being taken to see the cockpit and passing the first row I saw Madonna fast asleep.

And no, I didn't get her autograph... I'm sure those huge brutes for body guards she had then would have taken offence if I had woken her up.

That was November 1994. And yes, she really is as tiny as everyone says she is.
