Ye left us too soon...

I'm going to see Ozzy for the first time tonight and I'm SO stoked! I got to thinking while driving to work today, "What was it like to see Randy Rhoads play?"

So, I figured I'd poll the group regarding guitar players who were taken from us too soon.

Who's the greatest of the deceased axe-slingers who met an untimely demise?

w0lfw00d 06-12-2003 10:33 AM

i voted kurt..although i wasnt a big fan of nirvana some of his stuff was good and hes the only one im familiar with on that list.

You're kidding, right? How old are you, dude?

Low spark 06-12-2003 10:44 AM

I'd have to say Steive Ray Vaughn. allways had a soft spot for Blues based rock.

One that you forgot was Duane Allman (Allaman Brothers, Derek and the Dominos.)

w0lfw00d 06-12-2003 10:45 AM

uhhh...15 biggrin:. I have heard of the bands ozzy and def leapod but i never got into them so never knew of the band members names (excpet for ozzys).

w0lfw00d 06-12-2003 10:47 AM

def leppard*.

Zoner 06-12-2003 10:49 AM
One that you forgot was Duane Allman (Allaman Brothers, Derek and the Dominos.)[/quote:f22f4]

Yeah, there were a lot of names I coulda put up there (Buddy Holly, Glen Buxton from Alice Cooper)..hence the Other option.

15 huh? Hrm, I thought everyone had heard of Jimi Hendrix. Ah well...no biggie, I s'pose.

wintersforge 06-12-2003 11:00 AM

id add Frank Zappa to that list

Zoner 06-12-2003 11:05 AM

Vote "Other" for Zappa.

Again, I couldn't add every dead guitar player to the list.

wintersforge 06-12-2003 11:11 AM

9! Zap oOo: pa deserved his pwn mention....

Innoxx 06-12-2003 11:55 AM

SRV, I'm a blues man. Plus his cover of Voodoo Child fucking rawks.

06-12-2003 11:57 AM

I voted Jimi Hendrix but would just as well have picked Stevie Ray Vaughn, but I cannot vote twice cry:

Duke_of_Ray 06-12-2003 12:14 PM

Howz about Mr. Chuck Bearry,sp?. I would say him.

ninty 06-12-2003 12:14 PM

Gotta go with Jimmy.

Zoner 06-12-2003 12:15 PM

Chuck Berry's not dead yet. Is he?

Plus, this is for guitar players who were killed in their prime...not for old bastards who have been around for 50 years.

ninty 06-12-2003 12:17 PM

No hes not dead. But hes definitley the father of Rock n' Roll.

Simo Häyhä 06-12-2003 12:19 PM

im too young to remember any of these guys. so i voted for kurt oOo:

Mpoulos01 06-12-2003 12:21 PM

Rhoads, Rhoads > God

Duke_of_Ray 06-12-2003 12:30 PM

[quote:9b879]Chuck Berry's not dead yet. Is he? [/quote:9b879]

Thought he died in plabe crash, plus his music is better than any of these dudes.

Innoxx 06-12-2003 12:32 PM

That's Buddy Holly and Richie Valens. Lynard Skynard died in a plane crash too.

Another good guitarist was John Lee Hooker.

ninty 06-12-2003 12:39 PM

So did John Denver.

Innoxx 06-12-2003 12:40 PM

Yeah, but who cares about him.

pest 06-12-2003 12:52 PM
I voted Jimi Hendrix but would just as well have picked Stevie Ray Vaughn, but I cannot vote twice cry:[/quote:93ce6]

Actually I voted SRV, but could have gone hendrix.

Cobain had a knack for popular music and I like his stuff, but he wasnt exactly a guitar great, was he? He even made comments that at times he needed an extra guitarist because he had a hard time playing and singing at the same time.

ninty 06-12-2003 01:12 PM

Ahh, c'mon.

Doesn't sunshine on your shoulders make you happy? And don't country roads take you home to a place you belong?

They do when yellowman sings about them.

Zoner 06-12-2003 01:17 PM

No, Kurt was not a great guitar player, but he fit the bill as a player who died a tragic death. He was a damn fine songwriter though, I'll give him that.

John Lee Hooker doesn't count since he died at the ripe old age of 306. John Denver I guess would fit the bill, but just barely. Not exactly known as a guitar god, though...heh heh.

Argon 06-12-2003 01:21 PM

Hendrix gets my vote and Stevie is a close second.

Office Depot 06-12-2003 03:17 PM

umm..you left off a big one

Elvis Presley

Zoner 06-12-2003 03:18 PM

I s'pose you could make a case for Elvis. He DID play guitar, but he wasn't known as a guitar player as such.

Again, I RE-ITERATE, I left off a lot of people...that's why there's the Other option. So, if you want Elvis, vote Other.

Office Depot 06-12-2003 03:25 PM

roger that zoner, i will pick other for elvis, but Jimi Hendrix is second place.

Ydiss 06-12-2003 03:34 PM

Jimi all the way. He died 8 years before I was born, but I would love it if he was still around in my teen years and today.

He was a wonderful guitar player.

Infernal_ 06-12-2003 03:44 PM

None other than JASON NEWSTED! I'm almost looking forward to seeing him as much as OZZY!

Gonzo 06-12-2003 04:08 PM

Duke_of_Ray 06-12-2003 06:32 PM

[quote:f3c45]That's Buddy Holly and Richie Valens. Lynard Skynard died in a plane crash too.

Unknown_Sniper 06-12-2003 06:35 PM
