Get a fan and run it on your case while its open. Play a game like MOH or BF1942 or something, see if it crashes. If not, more than likely its a heat issue.

wouldn't it just freeze up and do jack shit until you push the button if it's overheating?

I had a couple of those at work, the fans were gunked up with about 4 years of dust oOo:

Not nesscessarly. Alot of motherboards newer than about 2 years, can detect too much heat from the processor, or any other on-board peice, and will automatically shutdown if they are too hot.

I'd check your CPU cooling fan, Buck.

your power supply is prolly clogged with heaps of dust, clean it out

either that or it's on its way out, you'll have to replace it

give your comp a good blow out, the dust is a killer

Bucknub 06-16-2003 09:19 AM

alright.. i try what u guys have suggested... thanks

Bucknub 06-19-2003 09:13 PM

ok, well after my computer shutting down on me quite a bit, I got this screen message

ok, so after getting that message, i was told to either re-install windows or format, so I re-installed,,and I got that same error screen again

so my last solution was to back up all my shit and format

so what do I get when I try to format?

so I cant format to fix this problem, so from now on my comp with randomely shutdown and ill get that stupid error....

any other solutions? if you guys say buy a new computer I'll kill you :)

Jotun 06-19-2003 09:15 PM

does it to me too bro, but it rarely happens. i just deal with it.

Chango 06-19-2003 09:19 PM

ya I've checked the fan and temperature through BIOS and everything is fine.. I scanned for viruses, and I didnt find anything, and there are no loose cords either, and I also dusted it out and vacuumed out my PC .. and yet nothing seems to want to work properly..

by the way. this all happened during sunday arounf 5pm... I never used it for the whole weekend cuz I was gone to a cottage... so when I get back i went to use my pc and it fucked up...

I dont get it.. I dont use my PC and it breaks .. hmm makes sense eek:

PluginGuy 06-19-2003 09:26 PM

Mine does that sometimes too, it comes up with this blue screen (like the one buck posted) saying "beginning dump of memory" or something like that, then restarts. It's completely random, not just when I'm using certain programs. I know it's not a virus, and I've heard of many XP users having this problem, yet no one seems to know how to stop it from doing this.

06-20-2003 03:08 AM

Buckeh, change your boot settings to boot from CD
then start your comp with your Win (XP, ME whatever) your Win CD in.

Pretty much what comes next is easy, except if you want to create partitions.

just boot from your CD and all will work out

Judas 06-20-2003 05:11 AM

happens to me sometimes too ... no big deal. probably heat, but might not be ... i also get an acpi error (im pretty sure). next time it happens check the event list (if you dont know where it s in the control panel / admin tools / event viewer). im not sure how to correct it. ive also seen that irq message too, sometimes when im setting up windows. not sure how to correct it either. when i see it during setup i normally set the bios to load defaults and it works out. i also unplug everything usb ...

geRV 06-20-2003 05:11 AM

Just try a reinstall instead of a format. Probably a driver or two thats fucked.

I tried one of these methods, hopefully it will stop this shit

Bucknub 06-20-2003 08:41 PM

hmmm... well I haven't beed geting those blue screens anymore, however it is still randomly shutting down.

It just shuts down and reboots itself, anyone have any solutions, I've tried some of the things you guys have said, but I still havn't had any luck.

any ideas? oOo:

PluginGuy 06-20-2003 08:42 PM

I still think its on standby mode or has scheduled things, that's what happened to my moms pc after she got it back from the computer repair place.

Arch 06-20-2003 08:57 PM

did you scan for everything? backdoor trojans, hacking programs, etc. Kazaa has lots of those...

he said his comp shuts down in the middle of them, i have heard of a virus called the bugbear virus that shuts down any virus scanning program automatically to keep itself alive.

Unknown_Sniper 06-20-2003 09:36 PM

if thats true. then well...Buckweed you etter be good at manual virus extermination. Search for bugbear and see if thats it

No, it's not a hardware problem, it's a flaw in XP, many XP users, including myself, are having similar problems. Prehaps do a google search for "Windows XP Troubleshooting" and see if any of the sites that come up have a solution.

Bucknub 06-20-2003 09:48 PM

I have searched google for solutions and cure.. and tried some stuff they said, but I still havent had any luck, and simo.. I have luckily scanned fully, without any shut down during a scanning. so I dont think it's that.

Simo Häyhä 06-20-2003 09:52 PM

EDIT: Simo, for fuck sakes, you should know better.

the only time I ever saw a dumping of memory message was on a server at work, days before the hard drive died.

Old Reliable 06-20-2003 09:56 PM

why are you asking here? nothing but a bunch of faggots who dont know what they're talking about
