Best Songwirter of all time?

Who is the best songwriter. NOT YOUR FAVORITE BAND, the person who writes lyrics that aare just amazing here is my list:

1. Bob Dylan: Ahh Durrr, only the best songwriter ever
2. Jimi Hendrix: writes lyrics of amazing things.
Ozzy Osbourne (when he was with Sabbath in the seventies): Listen to N.I.B. amazing lyrics.

Bob Dylan is the best ever, next to the guys who wrote the relgious songs in the song books at church, those words do have true meaning.

Rivers cuomo (from weezer, might not be the greatest song writer, but he is definatly worth mentioning, mainly because the meaning for the song "Say it aint so" is so deep and moving.)

New weezer isnt good at all but say it aint so is amazing for those who dont know its about when rivers' dad was leaving their family, he started drinking. Then when he notices his stepdad drinking, he thinks hes goin to leave too. Which explains the line "somebodys heiny, is crowding my ice box" he found some beer in the refridgerator right before his dad left, than after a little while he noticed his stepdad was drinking to, so he was afraid of being abandoned again. Great song.

McCoy 03 06-23-2003 09:45 PM

A fellow Weezer fan.

biggrin:

Zap. USMC 06-23-2003 09:52 PM

The name "Weezer" always reminded me of the word "Tweezer" which would then remind me of getting a splinter in my hand or foot and having to get a tweezer to get it out..... oOo:

06-23-2003 10:02 PM

elton john man. that song where he just yells through the whole song. what's that called? you knwo they one where he says a bunch of stuff that does not sound like anything? and he goes la-la-alallalalalalalalal like in a string without stoppign and the crowd cheers as he finishes that string.

Freddie Mercury - Bohemian Rhapsody !!!!!!!!! No song ever written could ever compete with that. It hit every type of rock there was perfectly in one song. Soft,Fast Then it went heavy !

Office Depot 06-24-2003 12:12 AM

Aesop Rock
Talib Kweli
Slick Rick
Afu-Ra
Encore

Harlen Maguire 06-24-2003 05:22 AM

Brian Wilson of the Beach Boys.

Now, wait, I know you're thinking "but he wrote ghey songs"...

but in the late 60's and early 70's, with Pet Sounds, and similar projects, in terms of composition, arrangement, and lyrics. Brian Wilson leads the pack.

Hell, even Paul McCartney said he was the greatest songwriter of all time.

-=[SlipKnoT]=- 06-24-2003 05:48 AM

i peronaly think eminem is just bloody amazing... and has hudge talent. his mroe serious songs are like poetry not raps.

Zoner 06-24-2003 05:55 AM

Diane Warren. You gotta hand it to her, if there's a horrible Hallmark Moment love song topping the charts, odds are it's one of hers.

Examples:

Aerosmith, "I Don't Wanna Miss A Thing"
Mary J. Blige, "Give Me You"
Toni Braxton, "Unbreak My Heart"
Belinda Carlisle, "I Get Weak"
Chicago, "I Don't Want To Live Without Your Love"
Eric Clapton, "Blue Eyes Blue"
Ginuwine, "Superhuman"
Whitney Houston, "I Learned From The Best"
The Jacksons, "Private Affair"
Patti LaBelle, "If You Asked Me To"
Starship, "Nothing's Gonna Stop Us Now"
Rod Stewart, "Faith Of My Heart"
TLC, "Come On Down"

My PERSONAL favourite is Steve Harris from Iron Maiden...but you all knew that, didn't ya?

Zoner 06-24-2003 07:12 AM

Jeezus, how could I forget Neil Peart from Rush? Man, that dude has written some of the most beautifully intricate songs in the history of progressive rock.
