I don't know, I think it depends on what branch. Don't count on getting into the airforce with any prescription of glasses. But you might be okay for infantry. I would go check it out with a recruiter.

con Brio 07-07-2003 11:19 PM

i know some wear glasses, but how about someone with -8? there must be some restrictions as to how bad the eyes are

07-07-2003 11:20 PM

yeah, air force is out of the question. The army will take you though

11 Bravo 07-07-2003 11:32 PM

I don't know how Canada is, but here for enlisted personnel its pretty lax. Air Force is not out of the question. not everyone flies a plane in the AF (not to mention it's only for officers). anyways, enough of the flyboys biggrin: . I know in the US Army you can fly choppers with corrected vision of 20/20. I signed up for Army Airborne Infantry and have 20/30 vision. not to mention I can get Lasik surgery done for free.

how can u get lasik for free?

11 Bravo 07-07-2003 11:43 PM

Medical Expenses are paid for by Tricare Insurance, and free dental. not to mention for $20 a month I get $250,000 life insurance policy. The benefits of serving are endless.

I'd like to see you serve in the Armed Forces you little bitch. We're all on the same team here. sure there's a rivalry, but to call 'em lazy ass fucks is a little extreme.

I've heard you can't be a pilot if you have Asthma.

Can you have Asthma and still be in the U.S. Army?

Fireal 07-08-2003 02:44 AM

I was reading this thing a while back that showed you some stuff on the marines. And it said that People who wore eyeglasses, or cntacts have to wear these glasses that are Horribly ugly and nicknamed them "Birth control eyewear" They are durable as hell. So your anwser is yes in the narines. and the army would take without a doubt. I wll be a marine soon. Semper Fi!

flat feet are no longer a disqualifier, not since before Vietnam.

Unknown_Sniper 07-08-2003 08:26 PM

flat feet lol. it would only be bad if you had to run or something like that

SoLiDUS 07-08-2003 08:45 PM

Minus fucking 8 !? Can you even see any of my facial features from 2 feet
afar ? Are you doomed if you lose your glasses ? I have -.75 on both eyes
and even though I still see almost 20/20, the thought of not being able to
walk around without glasses scares the shit out of me! I use mine to read
books or do anything on the computer but I can see almost perfectly when
outside without them...

-8 ? Ouch! ed:

Asthma (in the US Army at least) is an automatic disqualifier. Vision really doesn't matter as long as your not colorblind.

What if I tell them I don't have Asthma...

07-09-2003 01:34 AM

they make you run, sooner or later you'll gonna brake, and they'll know you have asthma

McCoy 03 07-09-2003 01:38 AM

Well I know...Asthma sucks, kids used to say to me, "I wish I had Asthma..." I was like ughhh... oOo:
