Tripoli?

Word around the campfire is that a new movie is being produced dealing with the north african campaigns in WW2. It's directed by Ridley Scott, (Gladiator, Blachawk Down) starring Russel Crowe and Ben Kingsley. It's probably gonna be a British/German affair since they've already casted James Mullen to play Field Marshall Montgomery and maybe Viggo Morteson to play Erwin Rommel. That's basically all I know about it.

So what I'm asking is, does anybody know anything else about this movie?

The North African theater of war has always been and avid interest of mine and I hope this production doesn't get dropped.

have nt heard of this one .. russel crowe sucks.

Strik0r 08-07-2003 04:31 AM

i bet the germans will all speak english in english accents, with some shitty american sidekicks doing some fake accent.

duffman forbid they actually speak german in a movie

Innoxx 08-07-2003 04:54 AM

We'll have to see, I guess. I heard the script was very good and knowing Ridley Scott, I bet there's gonna be some really cool battle scenes.

Zoner 08-07-2003 08:14 AM

Sounds like a good flick idea to me! Ridley Scott is awesome.

Tripper 08-07-2003 02:28 PM

i heard on the history channel that the new zealanders were the fiercest fighters according to the germans

Sergeant_Scrotum 08-07-2003 03:39 PM

I read somewhere the the germans would try to steal the canadian made jeeps because they were better made than the german ones. just found that to be kinda funny myself biggrin:

Innoxx 08-07-2003 05:55 PM

Hmmmmmm, that's fucked up. Rommel and Monty....... in a flick about the 19th century?

catalyst 08-07-2003 06:41 PM

yeah, I thought I saw something about Russel Crowe in an upcoming movie, but it looked old, like the 1800's...

Yeah man....Prominently the Maori Battalion though - I know I always rant on about the NZ Natives, but goddamn! They were fierce. They charged whole tank companys with fixed bayonets, and still came out on top.

Someone should make a movie about them - I'll be waiting for that. I've heard fascinating stories about them. Stories that would be perfect for films...

Interesting fact....Maori's pretty much invented Trench Warfare, during the Maori Wars of the nineteenth century.

Innoxx 08-07-2003 06:48 PM

Yeah, the Ghurkas were tough guys too.

i would love to see a ww2 movie that doesnt glorify all american acts.
sadly i dont think we will every see a movie that doenst portray americans as the heroes of the war

Ferich 08-08-2003 12:16 PM

Write a Script. Submit it to the Canadian Hollywood. Problem solved.

I can think of at least Sixty-Nine World War Two movies not involving Americans, and some not involving them 100%. The American movies just have the highest budget, way it works.

Dude - First of all....That's WW1.....Second of all, while it does potray ANZAC troops, it is an Australian movie, about Australian troops....and none of the small cast of New Zealanders were Maoris....Maori people have dark skin.

Oddball 08-09-2003 06:11 AM

Lemme think, Russel Crowe, Ridely Scott. I think this movie is about Lord Nelson? I remember hearing about this. Given that this is set in the 19th Century I think it makes sense.

Innoxx 08-09-2003 06:15 AM

Yeah, it is set in the 19th century.

Why cast Monty and The Desert Fox though?

Maybe some flashback thing or whatever.

Oddball 08-11-2003 04:49 AM

Ah storyboard crap I guess, movies don't seem to make sense until they actually have a solid script to work with.
