Hobbes 09-16-2003 08:39 PM

There is some concern that this one will hit Ontario just like Hurricane Hazel did back in the sxities.

And the way our luck has been here lately I would run for cover if your between it and Ontario.

So far this summer we had SARS, West Nile Virus, Blackout so why not a hurricane to.

I dunno, man. I've been through two, and both were Cat 1's. Even then, the air pressure would drop so quick, it would be tough to take a breath at times. In the meantime, just imagine the wind and rain and hail. I couldn't imagine going through a Cat 5, let alone the anticipated 2 or 3 Isabele is expected to reach by landfall.

Tripper 09-17-2003 02:42 AM

Ah Well - Good luck America.

Typically, the only people that think hurricanes are fun are the ones that have never actually been through one. And no, the tropical storm outer fringes dont count as being thru one. And neither does having the rainstorm that used to be a hurricane.

my thinking exactly i lived in florida when andrew went across the state. it aint no walk in the park. price you pay for living on the coast. mostly its great but it certianly has its down side. been there done that...good luck to all who are in its path. the storm is bad enough but its worse after. no eletric..maybe no water. trees down everywhere so its tough to get around. flooding..tornadoes. you can tell whos actually been there and who has'nt.

Bucknub 09-17-2003 07:53 AM

This is a bigger Hurricane

This isn't even going to be a serious hurricane. Yeah, it's big, but the winds aren't even going to top 100 miles per hour. If you live in a hurricane prone area (which I do) there are hurricane codes required for houses. Any house built is required to be able to withstand constant winds of 90 miles per hour, but a larger or well-built house will withstand more than that, minus a few shingles. Trailor parks? Should've just got an apartment, IMO. They're SOL. Anyway, I've been through Hugo and a few smaller ones, as well as the two Nor'easters that ran into each other over VA Beach, which was determined to have been worse than some hurricane that rammed through the area.

pest 09-17-2003 11:16 AM

^^ True, but you also have flooding, downed trees and power outages. Not to mention that any houses built before the 90's probably didnt have to meet the new codes. Add to that all the flying debris that will easily take out a window if it isnt boarded up. And you probably know this since you live in a hurricane prone area, most roofs lost in a hurricane happen after a window is blown out and pressure builds up inside the house. I'm not saying you cant ride one out, I am only saying that I dont find it very fun. Sure you can have a hurricane party, but a hangover in a hot, dark house sucks. And you can hardly fault people for being poor. Someone's got to wait tables and answer phones.

Anyway, good luck, I hope things turn out ok.

That shit happens every day....Yeah it's sad. But it happens. You can't be sad every day.

And again - Good Luck to everyone in the areas prone, hope you make it safely through.

Art Attack 09-17-2003 02:34 PM

We get hit by that fuckin thing thrusday.

Unknown_Sniper 09-17-2003 02:42 PM

I get hit by it on friday... Kinda depends on if it turns a little east or west. I want it to hit though cause I got a video shoot that lots of mud would help get me an A on. Plus really now. 100+ mph winds aint nothing. MY state has the fastest recorded windspeeds. we can handle it evil:

descry 09-17-2003 02:59 PM

i think i should read the news more cause i didnt know there was a hurricane

ED! 09-17-2003 03:26 PM

That is hands down a frightening picture. Still nothing compared to what happens in the rest of the world.

Bazooka_Joe 09-18-2003 10:36 PM

[sarcasm]Ahh, that's nothing![/sarcasm]

The wind is literally howling by my house from the storm. Nothing yet except some blown down branches, and my doormat is missing. cry:

[DAS REICH] Blitz 09-19-2003 08:52 AM

nothing happened just wind.....I thought i was gonna be destroyed
