Word with Windows?
I am gona build my next computer and i am going to have Windows XP as my OS. I am just wondering if Word, excel, and powerpoint come with XP or if i have to buy the seperate...
|
You have to buy OfficeXP seperate. It's a bunch o' cash too... like $400.00 or something.
|
damnit annoy:
|
Another questions my new motherboard is going to be 12" x 9.6" (30.5cm x 24.5cm) and i am wondering how big of a tower(case) should i get?
I am going to have some big cards in there like an audigy 2 and a geforce 4... |
Also should i get Windows XP home or Pro
|
Pro
|
care to say why? Pro cost a lot more money ed:
|
you have the same in-game name as me..... ::sobs::
fuck xp pro, people say its better, but there isnt much of a difference in my opinion. it is a tad safer, security wise, but my xp home is working just as good as my friends with pro, maybe even better. |

regular size ATX case should fit. (Make sure you have a powersupply rated for the type of processor).
|
yea i was wondering about the power supply... Do you know where i could find that out? I was just planning to go down to comp USA... And is there any kind of tower i should get? I mean like aluminem or metal case? I have some crappy dell case now... Also i want something not over $20 and something that will be easy to put my parts in
|

For what you need you might as well go for a fortissimo III 7.1 or a Digifire 7.1 card from hercules. This will save you around 75 bucks where as you can take that 75 bucks and invets it into some thing else that needs a bit more sprucing up. (Such as a nicer looking case and a ample power suppply. Why go with the larger power supply ? well you are getting a 2.8 "c" not a a or b core. This means plentiful overclocking capabilities which in turn means you need more power. Hercules =Better drivers(stability, price for the bang) Only bonus from the audigy card is that it has 24bit sound. rock: |
ive never heard of these hercules cards.. ill look into them...
|
I saw the hercules over at new egg and i saw the reviews. Everyone says they love the card! The card cost 46.00 so its about 30.00 cheaper then the audigy 2 OEM($73)
So my question is should i go with the hercules or go with the audigy... Price does not matter on this one!!! |
Ok, this is the 1st time i'm seeing this thread so i'm gonna jump right in here. As for your choices, all good ones (Including WinXP). The sound card is gonna be up to you but if money is no object. i'd stick to the soundblaster.
For a case, i recommend an Enermax full tower. I just built this rig last month and the case was a pleasure to work on. All the drives slid right in and it has removable trays for things like hard-drives. I removed the power supply that came with the case and installed a 460W enermax p/s. The other one went into my old AMD box. Here's a pic of the case just after the "build". |

Why reccomend Windows XP ? have you honestly tried both of them out for more then a year ? Any one that has knows win2kpro is a lot better. Stability and with compadibility. ps nice case if I ever get a digi cam ill post a pic of mine. rock: |

Cupcakes.
There's different versions for different prices. I believe the biggest package they have is the professional with Frontpage. |
Just one thing to remember when buying online. You may find something really cheap to find out it's an OEM part vs a retail boxed part.
Most of the time, you will get no extra software, no big deal. But most OEM parts like video and sound cards will have lower quality ram and in some cased be clocked lower, thus the cheaper prices. I would always recommend buying video and sound card in retail packaging. CPU's - OEM's only have a very short warranty 2 - 3 months. Where a retail boxed CPU will have a fan and a 2+ year warrantee. I recommend newegg.com I have purchased way too many computer parts in my life and have had very good luck with newegg. Let us know how you make out in the end and what parts you purchased and how it runs MOH, CoD and or BF42 |

Yes but i want to try to stay under $1,000... Also can anyone reccomend a powersupply for a 2.8 ghz? |
can someone give me a link from newegg with the Enermax full tower... I only found these 80$ towers oOo:
and what about this one? http://www.newegg.com/app/viewproduct.a ... 015&DEPA=1 |
Ok, looked at newegg.com for the Enermax case i bought.....they didn't have it. I bought all my parts from Newegg.com and Monarchcomputer.com so the case came from Monarch. You can opt for an Antec case. Same as the Enermax. Here's an $80 server case: http://www.newegg.com/app/Showimage.asp ... 120-01.JPG
As for my rig, these are the specs: Intel 2.6Ghz proc (800Mhz FSB) (Retail) Intel D875PBZ mobo (Retail) Enermax full tower Enermax 460W p/s Radeon 9500 Pro Video Corsair 1GB DDR 3200 RAM Western Digital 80 GB 8MB Cache 7200 RPM (OEM) Western Digital 40GB 8MB Cache 7200 RPM (OEM) Mitsumi Floppy 7-in-1 USB card reader / smart media ASUS 52x CD/ROM Plextor 48x CD/RW SoundblasterLive! Klipsch 4.1 speakers Digiview 19" monitor I carried over a few parts from my old system (Vid card, sound card, speakers & monitor). Everything else is new. The only OEM parts i have are the Hard-drives, everything else is retail. And as for WinXP Pro vs Win2k Pro, i'll stick to WinXP Pro thank you very much. Everyone knows WinXP Pro is the best O/S to date to come from Misrosoft. I never had a single problem with XP since it came out. But, like anything else, it's all gonna be up to you. |
