Half Life 2 source code leaked
This can not be good for half-life 2.
As reported on Driverheaven.net http://www.driverheaven.net/index.php?s=#article_7049 The link they got this from seems to be overloaded. |
Ooooh....dayum. That can't be good. ed:

Appearantly its simply HL code renamed. Although Planet HL is convinced it is not. |
It could be the code for a programmable toaster, for all I know.
In any case, I'm not getting my panties in a bunch about this. It won't affect my life any. |
If it is, I wonder how this will effect the final game release, if at all?
|
According to the Oct. edition of PC gamer, there was supposed to be a pre-release mod-tutorial course. A quote from the article..........
" As valve prepares to host a pre-release mod- tutorial course, we talked to boss man Gabe Newell about the opportunities awaiting creative modders with the source engine." hmm
|
couldnt they have leak a beta version of the game, i have no use for the source code
|
|
ok it wasn't my fault. I only wanted to show the code off biggrin:
|
Appearantly the legitimacy of it is rising faster and faster:
[quote:83b51]Taken from the QT3 forum: "*IX*Aszurom wrote: [edit - Apparently the distributed file - which is supposed to be widely available on the EDIT scene now - also contains the source for Steam. Furthermore, it has the cd-key encryption/validation mechanism in it apparently, which would make sense for Steam. People are also validating that the HL2.ico file is the real one, and there are a lot of publicly unreleased monsters and weapons named in here that appear to make it seem VERY legit. If the part about the cd-key code being out in the wild is true... well, how far back do you think it'll push the game NOW? I'd assume their packaging has already been printed, which means the cd-keys are generated and on the cases. Hrm. Maybe they'll have to ship inserts that say "here's your real cd-key... ignore the one on the case"?]"[/quote:83b51] I cant see how this would push the game back though. It IS going to get warezed, and alot of people here are gonna warez it before they buy it. Fact of life. And valve should know this. However, is this thing able to mimic TOTALLY the keygen needed to produce VALID ONLINE CDKEYS not just installation keys? This is the thing I'm concerned about. Or not really concerned - cause more power to ya if u can get me this thing for free. |
So far they are saying the key gen code is in there.
It has been confirmed by valve here http://www.shacknews.com/ Please no link to the source. as stated in the link I posted, it's ok to talk about the leak just don't post links to the actual code. Thanks |

Wow. Seriously sucks.

Leaving serious material like Source on compromisable machines ? Linked
to the fucking net ? If this wasn't a plan aimed at delaying the game even further for one reason or another (and I truly think it is), they deserve this. |
I still think this is going to be a great game, just wish the MP cheat makers did not have this upper hand, if they can make something of it.
The only good that can come of this is the mod makers can possibly use this to help them develop some cool mods. Not that they could not use the SDK that will be on the CD upon it's release. sad this happened to a company that gives so much to the community |

Ill be the first to say the HL Community is active, but I think ive seen more evil than good. Now everyone will be consumned by the Dark Side of the. . . wait for it. . . wait. . . SOURCE! bWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA~~~!!!!1 |
HL2 cheats due for release 10/31/03
HL2 game due for release by the holidays. GG valve. And I thought that I read somewhere that the HL2 multiplayer, based on the leaked source will be Team fortress 2, not CS2. |
if it has server binaries people can just exploit the multiplayer servers and think of all the cheats this could bring
|
The latest rumor is that they got more than just the source, they got the full game as well.
Expect more delays. Many more. |

[quote:a9bd1]1) We've taken our network connection down to pretty much a minimum. We're still finding machines internally that have been compromised.
2) The suite of tools that the attacker was using included the modified version of RemotelyAnywhere (basically a Remote Desktop-style remote admin tool), Haxker Defender (a process, registry key and file hiding tool), the key logger, and various networking utilities that allowed them to transfer files (compressors, NetCat, and FTP). We also are pretty sure they were sniffing our network to gather passwords and other information. Haxker Defender includes a file system driver that allows an attacker to have stuff on your machine that is invisible, unless you do something like mount the drive under another OS that has NTFS support. We have determined one way of detecting some infected machines, which is using a connection viewer to detect connections to anomalous hosts external to our network. We still don't know their entry method. 3) In general, the community has been remarkably swift at tracking down the sources of the leak. What would be most helpful now are IP addresses of the people who were responsible for the intrusion or for the denial of service attacks. 4) Also, please continue to send in URLs of websites hosting the source code. We've been contacting people and asking them to take it down. 5) There's anecdotal evidence that other game developers have been targeted by whoever attacked us. This hasn't been confirmed. We've been providing other game developers with more detailed information about the exploits and evidence of infiltration. 6) We're running a little bit blind with our network shut down, but it seems like some of the press has picked up the story. I've been fielding calls from the mainstream non-games, non-technical press.all day. Hopefully they will get to report shortly what a mistake it is to piss off a whole bunch of gamers and get them hunting you around the Internet. For any information related to this, please send it to helpvalve@valvesoftware.com, or you can always send to gaben@valvesoftware.com as well.[/quote:a9bd1] -Valve & Gabe Newell from here [url:a9bd1]http://www.dayofdefeat.net/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=19094[/url:a9bd1] |
Some guys are really taking this seriously.[/url:ba746]
I think this is less about helping the community as it is about getting SERIOUS kudos if all their efforts lead to an arrest. Still its is an interesting read. |
please don't post the source.
did'nt you read my post in this thread????? -rudedog ^teh s0urce |
