band of brothers?

i just got done watching Band of Brothers for the second time. till now i didnt think about how much i liked and i was wondering what you all thought of it.

Madmartagen 11-09-2003 11:56 PM

that series kicked ass. i watch it every now and then after a good marathon of Cod or Moh. IMO the best episodes were ep 2, 3, crossroads, and bastogne.

ninty 11-10-2003 12:01 AM

I'll save you some time.

Everyone here liked it. I have never heard anyone say they have't. And most people here have seen it about 10 times through including myself.

JBird 11-10-2003 12:20 AM

heh, funny, i just watched day of days, replacements, carentan and why we fight last weekend rock: its a moving series, with breathtaking visuals, and most importantly a real story with substance. not just made up like spr.

JBird 11-10-2003 12:21 AM

oh, if you havent done so already, have a look at that bonus features dvd...there is some really ass kicking behind the scenes stuff. and ron livingston's video dairy is really interesting as well beer:

only just!!!!!!!!! It's very good and considering they spent £4,000000 on it then they did well.

Tripper 11-10-2003 04:46 PM

Meh....It's good, but you can't just say "Its better than SPR! OMG."

If it wasn't for SPR, you probably wouldn't have BoB because you wouldn't have the innovative camera techniques and what not - You wouldn't have it especially because there would be no collaboration of Tom Hanks and Steven Spielberg.

Don't knock SPR so much.

Star85 11-10-2003 05:41 PM

Ok....who said no oOo:

Gonzo 11-10-2003 05:57 PM

i never saw all of them

RaNgeR 11-10-2003 05:58 PM

Not me, I loved it. I should go watch it. You can get some pretty cool dvd caps from it too.

Arkan 11-10-2003 08:44 PM

I believe BOB was the best war movie/series ever made. I enjoyed watching it and will continue to do so since i have the DVD set. You really can't compare SPR to BOB because one was a 2hr fictional movie while the other a 10hr series based on true events and characters. Both are real eye-openers as to what took place during WWII though.

Agreed, plus if there was no SPR there probably would be no MOH. The first one on the playstation was made EA and Dreamworks( Spielberg's company) the studio that made SPR.

Yes, exactly - Although, I think that would just give people around here another reason to knock SPR..... biggrin:

Swill 11-11-2003 03:33 PM

omg

guys leave them alone god...there noobs just like you and all of us were ok when we got here haha ok?

Xorcist [USA] 11-11-2003 05:13 PM

I loved it. One scene that sticks out in my mind is when Bull Randallman was separated form his squad overnight and knifed that kraut in the barn. (can't remember what episode) I could never imagine that happening. A face to face encounter like that. Man.

I suggest reading the book by Stephen Ambose as well. Obviously it has much more depth to it.

*offtopic in a way.........

Another author, Donald Burgett, from the 101st writes in a matter of fact way that keeps you reading. Here is an excerpt from "Currahee!"

BATTLE OF THE HEDGEROWS

We were being annihilated, our ranks disintegrating as we ran. Glancing at my comrades around and behind me to draw courage and strength form their presence, I saw that the field was being littered with dead, our dead. A trooper in front of us and to the right of me was hit in the chest by an 88 shell. His body disappeared form the waist up, his legs and hips with belt, canteen and entrenching tool still on taking three more steps, then falling.

Absolutely insane, the horror these men experienced.

101stSpeirs 11-11-2003 05:42 PM

i read the book, then got the series for christmas, they both icked ass

who did say "no"?

Both the movie and series were done by the same crew. BOB was better becasue it was 10+ hours long. There was one thing that dissapointed me though, i dont remember seeing a single BAR in the entire BOB series.

intrestedviewer 11-11-2003 07:10 PM

Good ol Bob, got the set right up here on my desk right next to enemy at the gates, spr, stalingrad, all quiet on the western front and das boot. I must say i like BoB more, over the ones i have. oOo:

11-11-2003 07:14 PM

i still have not seen it :(

i want to but its so much to rent the series

not true. i just rewatched crossroads, there is a b.a.r. in it...watch night scene where they ambush the germans. the scene where winters takes a look over the hill. he then says "1st on the left....2nd on the left....3rd on the right...2nd from the right etc etc.." one of those guys has a b.a.r. i know what you mean though, you dont hear him firing it. i remember seeing it 2 or 3 times, but never hearing it or seeing a soldier firing one.

imported_colt_45 11-12-2003 10:00 PM

i wonder why theres no b.a.r's.

Theres also one in ep 4 where there is the tiger covered with grass and some of the guys are by those barrels before the tiger shoots at them. ONe of them has a bar.

But you also need to remember the role of paratroopers. paratroopers are LIGHT INFANTRY. Machine guns are heavy, this is why you don't see many of them, because when you jump out of a plane you fall like a ton of bricks. That is why the ssmallest guy always carries machine guns/anti tank weapons on a jump. The other reason is that airborne are not very moblie. Would you want to carry around huge ass weapons? I don't.

30 cal are platoon support weapons., which means there would be only one per platoon. But they are 2 man weapons as a bar is a personal weapon. it just doesnt work in the airborne.

and a 50 cal weighs 126lbs total. so thats defintely out of the question.
