Just felt like posting some images. This is "The Swamp".

How's that map on the fps? Trees are usually killers on ye ole frame rate. |

Framerate is minimum 55 fps on GF3 ti and Athlon 1200. Most places it's around 70 - 80 fps. Trees aren't killers if you make your own. There's a lot of them too. Actual map is little darker and foggier with several layers of moving mist. I cleaned up the pictures a little so you could see better.

Balr, excellent work! However, the reflection on the water of those first shots does look odd. That is one thing I disliked about HITP.

Thats sweet. I love it. I just made sum Navy S.E.A.L. skins so when u release it my skins will have sumthing to match...lol Anywayz nice job.

Hey Balr........are my eyes deceiving me, or do I see LOD Terrain in that swamp? If not, your brushwork is improving exponentially!

YOU MUST BE KIDDING! If I was using LOD terrain, I'd be getting those framerates with nothing else in the map. I can make a brush terrain do things you can only dream about with LOD. It all depends on how much framerate I have to work with.
I scrapped the jungle map because I didn't like it. Too open. I saved the bamboo trees though. I'm working on a new one that is a REAL jungle. I'm not sure if I can top "The Swamp" (images don't do it justice), but I'm sure going to try. |

i think there are dday soldier corpse models you can use, and then you just scatter em around...of course i dont really know what im talking about cuz im a skinner, but i did some mapping on delta force 2 haha, and it was possible...
eh even if there arent any soldiers in it, i cant wait for release to give this one a try |

I hope it reminds people of VietNam... I used images from Indo-China (that was the old name) to model it after.
Water is only knee deep. You can still run and jump. Doesn't slow you down. |

That's looking from any vantage point you care to use. Using the terrain FPS as a starting point works well for me. If it's under 100, I know I'm going to have a tough time getting everything else into the map. The jungle terrain had to be really high because of the amount of foliage I'm adding.

Here's a couple shots of The Jungle. First shot doesn't look like much because it's the most open area I could find in that section of the map. Second shot is the start of the bamboo forest. Ignore the fps. These shots were taken with all graphic settings maxed and Radiant running in the background.

I don't do skins. I have enough to keep me busy with custom textures and maps. Damn, that would be really wicked though... and cruel. It would be really hard to spot players. It's hard enough already. |

The Swamp still needs work for TDM and CTF versions, plus getting a custom sound track to work. It was mae by a professional sound engineeer who works in movies and has ambient sounds and appropriate mood background music. I'm having second thoughts about the Jungle map. A 32 player MOHAA map seems like a bad idea now. It's hard to find 8 people to play a custom map. I may figure out how I can cut it down to a 2 - 6 player map. |

I would really love to run them both on the servers i admin (well at least the swamp map) check out our gaming network here http://games.bigpond.com/pc/ We have 4 MOHAA servers, 2 SH and a bookable clan server. We have a chat client which is required to view the servers so the adding of new maps and files is very easily passed on to other players. I would love to grab both large and small versions of the maps. It would be easy for us to get the numbers required to test out the maps. making vids of the fun shouldn't be a problem either should you want them. Please e-mail me @ samman@bigpond.net.au |
