Secret Service probes Eminem 'Bush threat'

Secret Service probes Eminem 'Bush threat'
06/12/2003 - 10:55:40 am

The United States presidential bodyguard said today it was examining lyrics by rap star Eminem to see whether he had threatened George Bush.

The Secret Service confirmed it was probing lyrics by the controversial artist, who says in a song: “I’d rather see the president dead.”

The words to the song, We As Americans, are available on the internet and have not been released by the award-winning rap artist.

Eminem says in the song: “F*** money, I don’t rap for dead presidents. I’d rather see the president dead.”

The Secret Service, charged with protecting the president, said it was looking into the song’s lyrics.
A spokesman said: “We are aware of the lyric and are in the process of determining what action, if any, will be taken.”

A spokesman for Oscar and Grammy award winner Eminem told CNN the song was not ready for release.

“This was an unfinished song, either lost or stolen,” he said.

“There was no determination where, when, how or if it was going to be used.”

Eminem, from Detroit, came under fire recently after a tape was uncovered in which he condemned black women.

The star said the words were “foolishness”, and the result of a split with a black girlfriend.

Meanwhile, his track, Lose Yourself, has been nominated for song and record of the year at the 46th annual Grammy Awards, which will be presented in Los Angeles in February.

Hobbes 12-08-2003 10:51 PM

Name one non black on black violent crime that has been commited in association with anything to do with the rap industry.
Infact, name one act of violence by any one associated with the rap industry that was in anyway political.

The World Trade Center was attacked previously, in 1993.

K, all I was trying to say was that the rap industries history of violence is due to the nature of gangster rap. The violence never intentionally leaves that level, because you don't see President Bush running around sending diss tracks out to other rappers and putting hits out on them.

Then again, if this is a common dealing of the SS, then I suppose it would make sense to check EVERYONE, including celebrities.

It's just that the media make it seem as if Eminem is the only person that they'd check in these kinds of absurd circumstances. Which is just stupid.

Now, I can't wait for George Bush's diss track to Eminem. cool:

TGB! 12-09-2003 07:27 PM

You cant go around threatening the President, whether directly, indirectly, or obtusely. I like his bleached hair though. Very cute.

mr.miyagi 12-09-2003 07:32 PM

Doh!

What a bunch of spastics. Now that kind of thing gives great reason for america to be very scared indeed. biggrin:

You should order every american to watch 'bowling for columbine' or something, might change a few opinions n stuff, you never know..

Couldn't agree with you more. I think Eminem is a stupid piece of shit. Sure, a few of his songs are "OK" but his songs are to depressing, plus I don't like rap.

Freedom of speech gives you the right to say whatever you want as long as it doesn't interfere with other people's rights. Quite simple really.

Merlin122 12-10-2003 08:59 PM

try telling that to a conservative republican rolleyes:

catalyst 12-10-2003 09:24 PM

I'm a conservative Republican, I like freedom of speech. Bush has been pretty good with freedom of speech if you ask me. The Dixie Chicks, this, and everyone else who has protested him has basically had their way with him, he hasn't done anything harsh or unconstitutional to prevent people from speaking out against him. Try again Merlin, don't just say stupid things about a party you don't like that isn't even correct. Generalizing about the Liberal Democrats would be just as easy as generalizing about conservative Republicans but I don't do it.

Madmartagen 12-10-2003 10:35 PM

patriot act
duct tape

catalyst 12-10-2003 10:48 PM

Patriot Act was the only thing and I haven't heard of that being abused, hell, I feel safer with it...

Duct tape?
