It's not unique, it's the same as other noobshit.

Trendy does not always mean bad. The primary thing is what looks good. Yours may be "unique" as you say, but it looks lame. His may be "trendy" but it looks better.

And you can't go around "judging" people's work by telling them they suck and not expect the same in return.
