The game keeps crashing on me. My system specs are:
Windows 2000 Professional AMD Tbird 1200 MHz ATI Radeon 64 MB DDR Video Card SB Live! Value sound card 512 MB PC-133 SDRAM ABit KT7A-RAID Motherboard HP CD Writer, 8x/4x/32x CD ROM Two 40 Gig hard drives striped with a game partition with 40 gigs drived E: The game won't even run in safe mode! It will play anywhere from 5 minutes to 25 minutes (longest it has gone so far) and then simply repeat the last game sound a few times (classic freeze sequence), play a windows ding sound, and go black and crash to the desktop after I press Esc a few times. It has even totally messed up my computer requiring a complete manual restart a few times. I've updated all of my drivers, video/sound/motherboard. I've reinstalled DirectX 8.1. I've reinstalled the game about 3 times, and ran Defrag on my partitioned game drive...all to no avail. Please help me, if you require more info please post and I will respond ASAP. Thanks in advance!! -Marcus |
its your radeon

Do you have all the latest drivers? That might be the issue.

hello, new to this forum...
I got the same prob... game freezes at random points from 1 second into the game, to 10 mins. The screen would freeze, the sound would repeat itself until the windows program error box pops up and i have to close MOHAA. System stats: Windows XP Prof. MSI K7T Turbo Limited Edition (updated the VIA 4 in 1 drivers for this) AMD Athlon 1ghz 266 fsb 768 mb pc-133 RAM 6 gig fujitsu HD (windows is installed on thsi drive) 30 gig maxtor HD (MOHAA is installed on this drive, and yes I have tried using MOHAA on the same drive as windows, didnt work.) Diamond Viper V770 <non-ultra version> (with vrs. 23.11 detonator drivers, and yes ive tried it with the newest ones aswell) Soundblaster Audigy (newest drivers also) Pioneer 16x DVD, LG 16x10x40 burner Any info would be extremely useful, I am at my whits end trying to make this thing work. (the only reason I have not given up on it is because from what I have experienced so far, it looks like an extremely good game) Thnx, clemato |
Try backing down on the video card driver version --- the latest are not always right for every system.

OK, I have
AMD ATHLON 1.2GHz 512MB SDRAM 32MB GeForce 2 GTS Western Digital 45GB HD Sound Blaster live X-Gamer 5.1 TDK 16/10/40 CD-RW Win XP Pro the game does the same stuff to me. It may either be the athlon chip, or the game just don't like "NT Enviroment" very much |
Are you running NT--read the readme that came with MOH.
------------------ http://simtown.net/members/crash615/2lt2.jpg |
no, I dont belive its the NT environment...
I tried it in windows 98 SE as well, same prob. |
bump...
I'm not the only one with these probs =/ |
Arclight,
There are two other people in here with soundblaster Live!, and I have an audigy. But we all experince the same prob. http://www.alliedassault.com/ubb/frown.gif |
What abt try' a different audio driver?

Clemato:
Just grabbing at straws--would this make a difference--from the readme file. +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++= The following sound cards have known problems: -Diamond Monster Sound MX 400 Requires turning off "DirectSound Acceleration" in the driver. See the detailed explanation under "Troubleshooting." -Creative Labs Audigy Currently hardware acceleration for this card does not work correctly. +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ ------------------ http://simtown.net/members/crash615/2lt2.jpg |
Same here...
I can play for (guessing) 15-30 minutes and my game will freeze up as well. I can still see people talking and such for a little bit. All the while I get the disconnected icon at the bottom of the screen. Then the entire thing eventually hoses up my system...full reboot. AMD 1.3ghz Athlon 768mb Ram 64MB 3D Prophet II GTS SB Live Win2000 Most excellent game, but this lil issue is quite annoying for me...expecially when I got a bean on someone's head. |
Another thing I have noticed...seems to only happpen to me while playing online. I can't say that I ever recall freezing up in SP.
|
Same thing happens to me ive tried updating everything even tried formatting still no luck game locks up with the repeated sound and error message like you described.....
specs Athlon 1.4 768 megs ddr Geforce 2 pro 64 ddr running windows 2000 |
tried all diff. audio drivers made by Creative Labs for the soundblaster audigy
(the ones that came with it on a CD, the first new set of drivers, and the second newest set of drivers). still no luck. |
Well, I belive I found a solution, albeit a strange one...
I got the idea of installing another Quake 3 engine based game, seeing if it would crash like MOHAA. (Return to Castle Wolfenstien.) This game did not crash, and so in frustration I gave MOHAA one last try. And whadda ya know, no more lockups... well there was one, but I was also fooling around with the video resolution and properties at the time. (and it seems having volumetric fog on also makes the game a tad unstable.) So my advice is, install a game that uses the Quake 3 engine (preferably Return to Castle Wolfenstien, because it worked for me.) Then install MOHAA, and try to play it (dont alter any video properties, just install and play.) Then once you have established that MOHAA is stable, start tweaking the video properties, if it crashes after a tweak, notch it right back to where it was. Good luck, and happy hunting! |
I belive these crashes have somthing to do with the AMD T-bird/XP processor OR AMD motherboards (I use the VIA KT133A chipset).
I dont know any good reason WHY an AMD processor/motherboard should cause a problem... Really, im just guessing at this point. *sigh* I wanna play this damn game, WAHHH!!! |
If that's true we should be looking forward to getting a new patch soon from EA...
I hope somebody important is reading about this CU |
Have you guys tried this:
1. Uninstall MOH--make sure all folders are gone. 2. Edit the registry and delete all entries relevant to MOH or MOHAA etc. 3. Scan disc, defrag and reinstall MOH. Also, have you checked your Windows Swap File allocation ? ------------------ http://texcorac.homestead.com/files/1Lt.jpg |
I am not sure why would that help...
I did reinstall MOHAA - I saved the "save" directory only ... But it did not help. As far as Swap I have 2 disks - 60g+100g and they both have plenty of room. I defraged them too. Still nothing.... CU |
I get the same problem now!! I NEVER use to get it
I can play the game for about...40 mins on safemode then it crashes |
Ok this is what I have told works. It don't work for me though, but has worked for some people. Search for ffx.dll when found change the name i.e add bad infront of it. then try running it. I hope this works for some people. Let me know of any other soloutions.

Be sure not to do that 3d positional audio fix that is going around - it'll make your game unstable.
If you want sorta 3D sound use headphones in headphone mode. It sounds better than most 3D sound in other games. |
sorry towers, that ffx.dll thing didnt work.
but thnx for the input. |
In this thread--like he said--a lot of AMD's having problems.

I have a P4 1.8GHz / 512MB / GeForce3 (not a Ti), SoundBlaster Live / XP Home and I'm having this same issue. Plays for a while, then crash with the audio looping.
Here's a weird one - when I first got the game, it wouldn't run. I had both demos (sp and mp) and they ran fine. I uninstalled MoHAA and both demos, resintalled the full version and tried again. No luck. Turns out, it was a little thing called CursorXP (a utility to modify cursors in WinXP). For some reason, if CursorXP was running, MoHAA wouldn't even load up. But the demos ran fine with it. Insanity - the absence of reason. Crow King |
ARH F&*K!
sorry, it still crashes. But not as frequently. sorry. |
Waste money, buy a MAC.

I've been dealing with the same problem for week or two.
System: amd 1.333 (asus a7m266) WinXP Pro 512 MB RAM pc2100 ddr Hercules Geoforce 2 Ultra 64mb SoundBlster Live MP3 2 HDs (60g+100g) Tried all nvidia drivers from 21.81 to beta 27.10. I uninstalled ACPI so I can separate IRQs for sound and video. I increased AGP driving all to "F" in BIOS. Changed amd761 to AGP bridging to PCI to PCI bridging. Played MOHAA from safe mode to 1600X1200 with all maxed out... could not find any patern... the game has 1.1 patch installed . I feel I did all I could on my side - it seems that the game has a bug or I am crazy... It randomly crashes to desktop w/o sound in the loop and WinXP dialog box about sending the problem to Microsoft. Is there a way to log the problem? Why would it chrash in the safe mode??? BTW WRTC and SS2 run w/o a problem and WRTC is the same Quake 3 engine. Maybe the problem is not the video - maybe it is the sound - I have the latest driver available Any input would be greatly appreciated. CU |
Well the only thing thats left now is the audio cards.
Everyone on this list has a Creative Labs Soundblaster card. ... but I still dont understand the method behind the madness. http://www.alliedassault.com/ubb/frown.gif [This message has been edited by clemato (edited January 28, 2002).] |
WOW CrowKing is the first one with the Intel CPU...
It is getting very interesting. CU |

Radeon 32mb DDR AMD Athlon XP 1500 (running at 1333mhz) 256mb RAM ASUS A7A266 mobo running Windows XP Pro. and my game crashes in multiplay all the time.. anyone have any ideas? it seems like alot of athlons and win XP bows are having problems.. |

Hi Guys
I think the answer to why the game crashes lies in the Readme file. Here are some extracts from the Readme file. I've experimented with the various settings and it now my game doesn't hang. Hope it helps.. - From the Main Menu choose the "Options" menu signified by some electronic equipment towards the left side on the table. Then select the "Video" menu, select "Texture Detail" and choose "LOW". - Also from the "Video" menu uncheck the "WALL DECALS" check box. This will prevent the game from creating bullet marks on walls and should improve performance. - Try reducing your video resolution to 640x480 or even 512x384 in your "Video" menu. The lower the resolution, the easier it is for your computer to run the game. - From the "Video" menu you can try lowering your color depth from 32 to 16 bit. - Video cards with less than 64MB Video memory cannot set texture detail to high and texture color depth to 32 bit simultaneously. These cards can get very poor performance at times, so lower your texture detail and/or lower your texture depth to 16 bit. - From the "Advanced" menu under the "Options" menu try turning the "SHADOWS" down to "simple" or "none". - In Advanced Video Options you can change your View Model. This allows one to choose how much of their own player model is shown. NONE means player's arm and weapon will not appear. GUN ONLY means the gun and not the arms of Powell will appear. FULL means that you will see both Lt. Powell's hands and the weapon he is holding during gameplay. The less of Lt. Powell that is showing, the faster the game should run. |
Damn!!
Same here, At Frist i did not have any problem @ 1024x768 with the game(MP), until 2 days laters i installed the latest 4in1 Drivers(MoBo), and then installing the new 1.10 patch.... Hi Gamers!
I'm a UK PC Engineer who bought MOHAA 2 days ago and, you guessed it, after only a few minutes play, the game locks up with the last sound repeating like a stuck record! Sound familiar? I have a SB Audigy and solved MY problems by adding the following command line option to the MOHAA shortcut:- -wavonly This instructs the Quake3 game engine to disable DirectSound & use windows WAV file output only. I can't hear any difference in sound quality, but my copy of MOHAA now plays like a dream, even at 1280x1024 on my GeForce3 with every detail level turned up full! ;-) It may impact game performance on lower spec systems, but as long as MOHAA is not crashing, who's complaining? Just compensate by using low quality sound or turning your video detail levels down... Hope this helps, HateBall (Programmers NEED debuggers because they ARE buggers) PS.
