Names of ALL of them? Wtf....?

Zen 01-28-2004 12:49 AM

I can't possibly understand why you would want ALL the band names.....

But you may try Billboard , or some of the other music sales & statistics companies.

"The N.W.O.B.H.M. Encyclopedia"
by Malc Macmillan
(ISBN 3-931624-16-1)
Pages: 800
Bands: 533
Pictures: 133
Release Date: August 2001

At last...the first comprehensive, English-language guide to the revered New Wave Of British Heavy Metal (N.W.O.B.H.M.) phenomenon, revealing the true extent and significance of a musical force which shook a small nation two decades ago, paving the way for a global heavy metal revolution in later years. Discover how, where and why it all started, how Britain's post-punk music scene evolved as a result, and why so few of these aspiring hopefuls became household names while countless small-town wannabes simply disappeared into oblivion. Marvel as over five hundred eventful stories unfold in lurid detail, the individual entries ranging from the genre-busting successes (IRON MAIDEN and DEF LEPPARD) to such esoteric acts as STORMQUEEN and MASTERSTROKE. In each case, informative discographies provide an invaluable, easy-to-use guide for collectors.
Fully illustrated throughout, with unpublished photographs, sleeve reproductions and concert material of the period, and featuring contributions from many of the key musicians themselves, "The N.W.O.B.H.M. Encyclopaedia" is a fascinating, absorbing read for enlightened aficionados and curious newcomers alike.
With rock and metal once again enjoying a massive resurgence in popularity, the vast majority of today's luminaries owe a fundamental debt to these trailblazing pioneers, so let this epic tome transport you to the days when hair was long, guitars were loud and genuinely exhilarating music filled the air... Including an introduction by Jess Cox, founding member of the TYGERS OF PAN TANG, today label manager of NEAT Records, and Paul Dianno, ex-lead singer of IRON MAIDEN.

I had a fun discussion with some guy over at Music Wars board at Gamespot and one guy totally had excellent reasons why Portnoy was much better than Lombardo. Especially since Slayer was highly overated. You can honestly tell by listening to it Portnoy has way better control of his drum kit.

Agreed. I've always liked Slayer, but their guitar solos drive me fucking nuts. There's no feel, no timing. It's just always "Let's see how much insanely fast staccato picking I can do in 25 seconds, then I'm gonna hit a few harmonics and lean on my tremolo for a minute." Every single song!

The rest of the tune is usually great, though. Hanneman and King are great rhythm players, but not much else.

Ok ok Dave Lombardo>all other thrash metal drummers. Portnoy is amazing but if you look at that band the musicianship is awsome. I like everything but the vocals.

And as far as kerry king, i love slayer but hes a terrible lead guitarist. If you want leads check out friedman or becker. Most amazing guitarists ever.

You would be right, whenever he was the one who wrote stuff and don't get me started at his skill with a guitar.

Slayer is very good...except him.
