Money this, money that. They have it, so they should spend it.

Baseball needs a salary cap. Look how much more competitive the NBA and NFL are because of it.

Yeah and then what do you get? An entirely one sided game. Makes a LOT of sense that oOo:

ninty 02-16-2004 12:31 PM

Yeah. Thats rediculious. That means every year the Yankees will either win or make it to the finals, and teams like Montreal and Minnessota will never get into the playoffs. What fun is that, unless you're a yankee fan?

The glory whores will be happy aka the guys who have been fans of the team their whole lives...in other words since they started winning on a regular basis.

Same shit happens in the uk with manchester united, when they weren't winning anything you never seen anyone with their shirts or anything, since they started winning thats all you see, ask them how long they've been a supporter and the standard response is "my whole life".

I wonder why..

Georgie: "WE NEED A 3RD BASEMAN...GIMME ONE NOW"
Minion "LETS GET DREW HENSON HE PLAYS FOOTBALL, HE COULD BE THE TOP PICK"
Georgie: "GIVE HIM 10 MILLION HE WILL BE MINE!!!"
Georgie: "WE NEED 2ND BASEMAN I WANT SORIANO, HOW MUCH MARINERS GIVE HIM....GIVE HIM DOUBLE...I WANT HIM NOW"
2 years later
Georgie: "DREW IS TEH SUX0R!! GIMMIE NEW GUY NOW!"
minion " Lets get Aaron Boone"
Georgie: "OOO HE GOOD GET HIM NOW I LUV HEEM!"
aaron tears up knee
Georgie: "I DONT WANT ENRIQUE WILSON PLAYING 3RD WE NEED NEW GUY NOW!!...ALFONSO IS TEH SUX TRADE HIM GET ME A-ROD"

That is how the yankees get guys...they find out how much someone is offering and give them double

even though many say the wings BUY cups...at least they dont have every good player in the league on their team..and the payroll difference between them and #2 is like 3-4 million...not 50-100 million

Sgt. Paine 02-16-2004 01:16 PM

whos going to play second??????? BTW Fact, the yankees have 6 of the 12 top paid players.

Exactly the point, same thing with that football team manchester united, when they sucked noone wanted to know but as soon as theyre winning everyone hops on the "ive supported this team all my life" bandwagon. Im willing to bet most yankee "fans" here only became fans when they began winning a lot. Big coincidence that. eek:

JBird 02-16-2004 01:49 PM

gerard i dont see any harm with fans hopping on once their team starts winning ....if you live in that city its your right to be a fan. yes, i will agree that part of being a true fan of a team is rooting for them when they suck too. i have been a lifelong whitesox fan, and part of being a fan is the agony of losing....so when you do win (or if) , the joy is that much better.

your argument for flaming bandwagon yankee fans is irrelevant imo, there are plenty of lifelong yankee fans. and btw, most sports teams fan base's derive from ppl hopping on once they start winning. look at the marlins from last yr. during the yr they couldnt draw 20 thousand fans a game....once september came around....capacity crowds of 50 thousand plus a night.

Fireal 02-16-2004 01:54 PM

I like the yankees because i was born into a yankee family. My dad loves the yankees, my grandpa loved the yankees.

Pyro 02-16-2004 02:31 PM

I'm so happy.

As long as the Red Sox never win a World Series again.

Blue Jays 4 life....then Yankees and White Sox!!!

Tell me about it.
Yanks line-up is quite possibly one of the most potent in history.

More like a baseball fan. I doubt anyone outside of the Yankee nation is really happy to see this deal go down. Everyone knows its a joke considering the Yankees basically buy at least an American League championship every year (that's not to say that the Red Sox don't spend money, but its almost incomparable to the payroll of the Yankees).

As of now Boston only has an edge on New York in pitching. Despite the Red Sox producing record shattering numbers last year offensively, they won't be nearly as good as what the Yankees are projected to put up.

Who knows.. putting a bunch of superstars on a team doesn't guarantee a championship. Look at the Lakers. Although Kobe's actions off the court didn't help, they still aren't living up to the hype.

Pitchers and catchers report within the next week, I think. Should make for an interesting year.

That always cracks me up thats like saying

Nothing like watching a bunch of guys kick a ball around

or nothing like watching a bunch of guys putting a ball in a basket

its most basic element is going around in a circle yes...but there is alot more strategy involved than most realize...yes it can get boring..but so can any sport.

My 2 cents

If there was shotguns and landmines involved in it then it would certainly be worth my attention. biggrin:

Because they turn right???

Or is it because there are so many political moves in it...

Hey your in 1st place and have never won a race before..but let schumacher pass you so that he can win and get more points to clench the championship..even though hes ahead by a mile oOo:

Nascar is where the money is...no one leaves nascar to go there unless they suck...F1 has some good drivers..CART and IRL are just ghey. Both racing leagues will be done in 5-10 years
