Miracle (the hockey movie)
i saw it with some friends. i liked it. it reminded me of remembe the titans, but not as good. i like those team fight kind of movies. except the coach in miracle had a funny voice. thoughts/opinions?
|
Haven't seen it yet...planning to though
|
I was thinking about it, but then realized the only sports movie worth watching is Slapshot, so i'm out. IMO the movie looks like a steamilng pile of 'make me feel good' bullshit. oOo:
I also thought they way they dedicated the All stars game to this coach was pretty offensive, considering that many of the best teams play for another country. I hate the way they make that shit to be American exclusive, it makes us look like dickheads. |
I want to see it being a hockey fan, but I have to sit through all the USA stuff. Its not that big of a deal, but American's probably get more out of the movie than people from other countries because we can't chant USA! USA! USA!
I'll still see it though eventually. |
Its not about dedicating the game to an american coach. Its about dedicating it to one of the greatest hockey minds. Regardless of race, ethnicity or country.
|
I heard it was way to americanized, plus it was only a semi final game... eek:

I was talking about the all-star game. But of course the movie is "Americana" It's about our triumph over the Russians, and what some claim to be the beginning of the fall of the Soviet Union. American of not... its still one hell of an accomplisment for a bunch of college kids to defeat an elite group of Russians who could have or later did play in the NHL. |

|
The movie was awesome. rock:
|
umm, enough with the usa hockey movies...most americans have never touched a hockey stick, not that any hockey movie is exciting.

[quote:3bbdf]umm, enough with the usa hockey movies...most americans have never touched a hockey stick, not that any hockey movie is exciting. [/quote:3bbdf] Uhh Hockey was invented in America! |
The americans are entitled to make their movie about whatever they want. its their money. They ahve hollywood, so if they want to make a USA hockey movie, no prob.
Yeah i'm sure the maority have never touched a hockey stick, but why should that stop them from making the movie. It was a good moment for the states. too bad hardly anyone here was alive back then including me. I came 3 years too late. Anyway, from what I gather it was a great victory. Who would ahv thought the US would ahev beaten the russians, and then go on to win gold? Nobody. they were total underdogs. not only that, the world was in a cold war. this victory wasn't just sports, it was quite political. If the US beats the russians at anything, that was great at that time. it was more than a game. And I think hockey was invented by some irish kids in newfoundland like 100 years ago. |
bah, they got lucky, they make a movie about there one win, canada owns hockey
|
i hate canada, they never do anything.
|

uh with noctis talking about all these racial slurs.
it is very bad to hate an entire country. there is no way you could know about everything here. |
Modern Ice Hockey was devised in the mid-1850´s by British soldiers stationed in Canada. Rules were set by students at McGill University in Montréal, Canada, in 1879, and several amateur clubs and leagues were established in Canada by the late 1880´s. The game is believed to have been first played in the United States in 1893. By the beginning of the 20th century the sport had spread to Great Britain and other parts of Europe. The modern game developed in Canada, and nowadays is very popular in North America and East Europe.
Another Interesting fact is that the first puck was actually a frozen lacrosse ball. When they found it to difficult to play with, they cut it into thirds, and used the center portion. After the development of vulcanization, we have the modern hockey puck. Oh ya... 1996 World Cup of Hockey - Championship Game Canada 2, United States 5 The 2004 Cup is coming up this summer. |
Yeah and you forgot World Jr.'s. I think we asked the question a while back. Does anyone know that the US Jr. Team won gold in January? I think like 6 Americans know.
Americans aren't bad at hockey, and Russia pretty much sucks now. There will be some teams coming out of the woodwork. There are some pretty good Eastern European teams like the slovaks. Anyway, Both Canada's Mens and Womens hockey teams won gold in 2002 at the olympics against the US both times. So there. biggrin: I worry about the US team for the world cup though. The US basically has no goalie since Richter retired. They have a few guys with no experience. Your fowards are getting older and you have no one to replace them. Modano Roenic and other will be retiring sooner than later. What happens when their gone? Is Poti gonna step up? Hes been sucking it up latley. Luckiny Canada has tons of new tallent coming up. |
I agree... were gonna need a Miracle - no pun intended
Although, I did watch the AHL allstar game, they have a few good americans that might make the cut in the next year or so. But, they aren't going to be outstanding from the get-go. |

I really don't know why the US as a whole doesn't pay much attention to hockey. Of the Original 6 teams in the NHL, 4 of them were based in the US (Boston, Detroit, Chicago, and New York).
It's not like the US started getting teams in the 1980s or something. rolleyes: US Hockey today is a great organization. More peeps south of the 49th parallel should wake up and see what a great game they're missing. |
I love the game and it is HUGE around here (Detroit area) most of the northern states are into hockey some of the southern ones too (the ones that get the retirees from the north) but it has a long way to go
|
Its prolly not as big down here because it doesnt snow cry:

I don't really like Hockey, it's football, soccer, and rugby!
|
basketball and lacroose were both invented in canada
james naismith ring a bell? |
I'm betting it doesn't ring a bell, Pyro. Most people think basketball was invented by Dr. J or Wilt Chamberlain...not some white dude from Almonte, ON.
|
basketball is fun, watching a bunch of big pimpin gangstas shot .350% from the field..W00t!
Football I can get down with, basketball is shit IMO |
