101stSpeirs 02-18-2004 12:31 AM

both are great, i am getting a 61 reissure (gibsoon sg) real soon, my dad knows a guy at gibson and well...

Zen 02-18-2004 01:16 AM

Don't play myself Dave , but my father has been using Fenders for 40 years.

JBird 02-18-2004 02:19 AM

i thought this was gonna be a vid of mel gibson getting owned by a car oOo:

Johnj 02-18-2004 05:02 AM

I've got a SG like that and it's pretty sweat, but I like my DC Les Paul better.

guarnere 02-18-2004 05:13 AM

Dang, im a little too short on funds to own a Gibson SG right now...id also like to own a Les Paul, but $$$ issue again =( ...thats cool though john, i didnt know you played guitar rock: happy:

edit: i own an epiphone sg special though, it more than does the job wink:

Johnj 02-18-2004 06:07 AM

Dave I collected guitars after my divorce. And I don't play the guitar, I play with the guitar. I also have several Epiphones, a Baby Taylor, a couple old archtops, A working Silvertone Amp in Case, and a couple nonames.

DEVILS ADVOCATE 02-18-2004 06:26 AM

i have a fender ...its good...but ive always wanted an SG so id go for an SG calmdown: beer:

Zoner 02-18-2004 07:38 AM

Personally, I'd take the Strat just because I find the SGs a bit too small and light for me. I find I can lean on a Strat and it just feels more solid.

Having said that, I like the SGs neck a bit better than the Strat. I find the Strat neck a bit too round and chunky. Maybe that's because I've played Ibanez guitars most of my life.

Gonzo 02-18-2004 08:34 AM

gibson, but the only down side is that they take about 8 years to break in

Bleuachdu 02-18-2004 08:52 AM

Gibson hands down.

I have always preferred the big fat sound of an LP over tinny sounding strats. My first gibson(owned a few epiphones, knock-offs and fenders prior to this) was a 73 SG Standard, it was a helluva a guitar. Even though the headstock had been broken off and repaired at least 3 times, it still sounded and played great. I currently own a Les Paul Classic & an Explorer. I also have a 52 RI Tele, but thats a different story... rock:

Zoner 02-18-2004 08:57 AM

That's some sweet axes, Bleu.

Me = ed: jealous

Bleuachdu 02-18-2004 09:06 AM

sad thing is, I haven't had time to play in soooo long. full time job + college = no rock annoy:

Zoner 02-18-2004 09:08 AM

I hear ya, mang.

I gotta get a 9-volt for my distortion pedal and lay down some neighbour-rattling riffs soon. Maybe today! You've inspired me. rock:

General Cobra 02-18-2004 09:09 AM

Gibson.

Bleuachdu 02-18-2004 09:19 AM

do it! I can't even rock the neighbors man, apt life restricts me to headphone amps (partly why I have the nice axes, no need for a marshall half when all I can do is play through a line6 pod).

Zoner 02-18-2004 09:22 AM

Maybe I'll record a little sample mp3...muhahahahahaaa! Complete with the neighbours banging on the walls..haw!

bukdez 02-18-2004 10:10 AM

Fender... but not Strat... Telecaster is where its at, especially vintage...

Zoner 02-18-2004 10:14 AM

Teles = mucho money, tho.

bukdez 02-18-2004 10:19 AM

i think you can get new, standard, teles and strats for less than $500... but the best is to check out pawn shops...

KTOG 02-18-2004 11:17 AM

I never owned a nice electric guitar, i feel most of the feel comes from the amp. Thats why i own a Fender 212 Hot Rod Deville. I keeps the neighbors at bay hellfire: .

Duke_of_Ray 02-18-2004 11:31 AM

Cna not, I say you can not beat a Gibson!

ShagNasty 02-18-2004 12:46 PM

Pre CBS fenders are nice. A Les Paul is sweet too. but I prefer a American made Jackson or Ibanez.

Bleuachdu 02-18-2004 12:49 PM

I went to guitar center and played a GMP once... I swear, nicest guitar I've ever played.

Unknown_Sniper 02-18-2004 02:05 PM

OK both are fabulous guitars. Both have great history.
Fender was one of the front runners in history on electric guitars. Tehn Gibson came along and sponsored the Les Paul.
I myself own neither type however I own a guitar that I upgraded with fender parts. I personally like the sounds of both and the looks of both brands. I like the classical looks of Fenders especially the Jaguar, Jazzmaster, and Mustangs.
Gibson ofers the Firebird which I think is a very good looking guitar. The les paul and the sg.
Seeing how I cannot make a good decisions on these im goign ot compromise and cheat. I choose a Mosrite. Supposedly the better models(you may have to get the older ones as in 60-80's) have better sound than a les paul and I like the looks.

101stSpeirs 02-19-2004 06:38 PM

my dad has a 73 (i think) fender strat, its worth alot of $$$ and i get it when he passes... its a big house, accidents happen...

elstatec 02-19-2004 06:39 PM

fender fo sure

Merlin122 02-19-2004 06:40 PM

GIBSONNNN!!!!!!

i have a fender. its a piece of crap

Short Hand 02-19-2004 07:29 PM

I prefer a turntable. biggrin:

Sgt. Paine 02-19-2004 07:34 PM

whats a fender? some guys last name, i know what a gibson is though. yea i prefer a turntable also.

Pick Axe 02-19-2004 07:48 PM

Fender, I don't like humbuckers. I like the twangyish strat sound. And think about it, if you asked 50 people (that don't play guitar) to draw an electric, it probably will look like a strat. But looks don't mean that much to me, I just like the strat design and pickups. The Price is another BIG factor.

STRATS ROCK!! rock:

Fireal 02-19-2004 07:49 PM

TurnTables make good beats.

They are wasted for making trance/techno.
