OK I have this great game, but it crashed every few minutes. So I check the forums here (since the official ones are down. . .) and see that others have the same problem. So if you have crashes, freezes, or whatever, describe them in detail here. If you have solutions, please, please, PLEASE post them here! Maybe we will see a pattern...

Ok my game crashes anywhere from 1 minute to 30 minutes into a game. The screen freezes and the sound loops. I cannot ctrl-alt-delete the program, and I am forced to reboot.

Win 2000 Pro
Athon XP1600
ASUS A7A266
256 MB DDR
GeForce 2 MX400
SB PCI512
--All with the latest drivers! (I also backed up a version with the Detonator drivers...)

Arclight 01-26-2002 12:59 AM

Have you tried a different sound driver version?

acwhite 01-26-2002 01:14 AM

There is only 1 sound driver...

Shamen 01-26-2002 02:15 AM

I have the smae problem. I can play for (guessing) 15-30 minutes and my game will freeze up as well. I can still see people talking and such for a little bit. All the while I get the disconnected icon at the bottom of the screen. Then the entire thing eventually hoses up my system...full reboot.

AMD 1.3ghz Athlon
768mb Ram
64MB 3D Prophet II GTS
SB Live
Win2000

Most excellent game, but this lil issue is quite annoying for me...expecially when I got a bean on someone's head.

acwhite 01-26-2002 02:20 AM

Does it happen in single player too? Also, does anyone with Intel chips have this problem?

acwhite 01-26-2002 02:44 AM

bump

Shamen 01-26-2002 02:46 AM

I think mine happens mostly in MP. Hard to say for sure though because I have been playing MP since I got it. I just started playing SP this morning. http://www.alliedassault.com/ubb/smile.gif

Gungy 01-26-2002 02:49 AM

I bought this bad boy last nite...Played all the way up to the level where u use the bazooka to blow up the king tiger tank or whatever..But,it crashes like 5-10 minutes into the game on that level...my specs are here:
AMD 1.2GHZ
biostar M7MIA
RADEON 64DDR VIVO
256 megs ram
soundblaster

mRp0p0 01-26-2002 06:03 AM

Mine crashes within 5 minutes of starting on both SP and MP
Athlon XP 1600+
512 DDR ram
Geforce 3
Soundblaster Live!
Windows XP home

Tested EVERY Detanator driver, EVERY sound card driver available

acwhite 01-26-2002 06:45 AM

I replaced the sound driver I was using for the generic SB Live one that comes with Windows 2000 and I can play for a little longer now, but it still freezes.

I SWEAR THIS IS AN ATHLON ISSUE!

Crow King 01-27-2002 06:54 AM

I have this problem with an Intel P4 and SoundBlaster Live. Funny thing, someone earlier mentioned that they didn't start to have it until level 5. Same here - I originally had problems loading the game, but figured that one out pretty quick. Not sure what is causing this at level 5.

computeruser 01-27-2002 07:20 AM

You see, maybe is the combination of AMD + WinXP + Geoforce2Ultra + Sound Card...

My gut feeling is that is something with OpenGL and video card or some conflict between MOHAA and AMD chipsets... ( so far no Intel person reported the similar problems)

BTW I am at 4th level with probably 80-100 crashes !!!

Relampago 01-27-2002 07:26 AM

I had this problem. It was an IRQ conflict. I had an input device and sound card both using IRQ 11. I simply moved my sound card to a different PCI slot and that fixed it. You may, in your BIOS, need to enable PnP since winxp and win2k like to assign multiple devices the same IRQ.

Hope this helps.

[HOLY]Moses 01-27-2002 07:34 AM

I see a pattern (shoot me if this is too obvious): AlmOsT ALL OF YOU HAVE SOUNDBLASTER or SouNDBLASTER LIVE

Capt.Chaos 01-27-2002 08:33 AM

It might be your bios I had The same problem after I flushed my bios to a newer version 1005 When I flashed back to 1003 It works fine now. I have the same mother board ASUS A7A266

acwhite 01-27-2002 09:22 AM

Excellent. ^bump^
ANY INTEL PEOPLE HAVE THIS PROBLEM?

G5_MYM 01-27-2002 10:24 AM

I HAD a rebooting problem with my
athlon 1800+
soyo dragon plus mobo
512 ddr ram
I am using the onboard sound and lan

when trying to load the v2 map in multiplayer, it would get to 75 % (estimated) and reboot my pc by itself.. no BSOD, no nothing, just reboot,,,
tried new sound drivers, new vid drivers, i tried EVERYTHING,,,
I had given up on the game, I had wanted since I got the mobo, to put my HD's on the promise ultra 100 channel, instead of the primary IDE, so I did that today... when i went back into the game and for shits and giggles tried to load the v2 map, IT WORKED!!!
i restarted the pc , just in case it was a fluke, and lo and behold I was able to load the map EVERYTIME now...
I dont know what was fixed, as I had no problems with any other game but this one, but...It just goes to show ya, anything can cause problems.
If you have a pc that has another set of ide channels besides the primary and secondary like I do, try switching the hd's to it and see what happens..
like I said, I am non-typical of the problems people are having, but this is what fixed mine...

good luck to you all, and see you on the battlefield...

just a suggestion too,,,if you know the manufacturer of the motherboard, give that too...
in case there are issues with sound cards in certain pci slots,

MYM out.....

computeruser 01-27-2002 10:26 AM

I've been dealing with the same problem for week or two.
System:
amd 1.333 (asus a7m266)
WinXP Pro
512 MB RAM pc2100 ddr
Hercules Geoforce 2 Ultra 64mb
SoundBlster Live MP3
2 HDs (60g+100g)
Tried all nvidia drivers from 21.81 to beta 27.10. I uninstalled ACPI so I can separate IRQs for sound and video. I increased AGP driving all to "F" in BIOS. Changed amd761 to AGP bridging to PCI to PCI bridging. Played MOHAA from safe mode to 1600X1200 with all maxed out... could not find any patern... the game has 1.1 patch installed .
I feel I did all I could on my side - it seems that the game has a bug or I am crazy... It randomly crashes to desktop w/o sound in the loop and WinXP dialog box about sending the problem to Microsoft. Is there a way to log the problem?
Why would it chrash in the safe mode???
BTW WRTC and SS2 run w/o a problem and WRTC has the same Quake 3 engine.
Maybe the problem is not the video - maybe it is the sound - I have the latest driver available
Any input would be greatly appreciated.

Same thing here.

AMD T-Bird 1.33 Gig CPU
ELSA Gladiac GeForce 2 Ultra 64mb videocard
Soundblaster Live 5.1
ASUS KT7A Mobo

Sometimes MOH doesn't lock up sometimes she does. Hasn't done it once in SP full version UNTIL I completed the Nerfer Mission now she's doing it again.
SP and MP demos locked up non-stop on my box.

Same problem as many of you described above... total screen freeze, music/sounds go into a loop... no other option but to reboot cold out into Scandisk hell.

computeruser 01-27-2002 11:56 PM

It seems that you are not running WinXp...
My computer crashes only to the desktop so I can be back in the game within minute or two.
I am not sure wheather we can eliminate WinXP as cause since you have the same symptoms and you do not have WinXP...
Lets see.

Man, look at them there balls!!!!!!!

G5_MYM 01-28-2002 06:54 AM

I am NOW running the game on an AMD XP 1800+ with windows XP pro, with no problems, as in my post in the first page of this thread, I was having rebooting problems, where the pc would reboot by itself, I have fixed that by moving my HD's to the 3rd IDE channel instead of the 1st...
since 2 days ago when I fixed the problems, I have been running nightly for over 4 hours each night, my geforce 3 overclocked to 525 memory, and 225 core,,with absolutely no crashes whatsoever....
At first I took the AMD, VIA thing seriously, but take a GOOD look at what most people have in their rigs,,, CL live, or audigy....There is no EAX in the game, and I think that is what the problem is,,, the card is having a hard time reverting back to 2d sound, and causing the lockups....
I am running a soyo dragon plus motherboard, using the onboard c-media sound chip, and I have not had any of the problems you all were having.... mine , like I said,, was non-typical of what everyone else was encountering..
so I am convinced it is an issue of the miles fast 2d positional and the audigy, live series of cards...

MYM out.....

computeruser 01-28-2002 07:11 AM

My MOB is A7M266 and it has the latest BIOS 1.005...
The same goes to the video card...
There isn't a thing I did not tried - it has to be a compatibility issue which can be fixed by designer only !!!
Is there a AMD + WINXP owner that runs the game without the problem?

CU

computeruser 01-28-2002 08:17 AM

Interesting...
Is there a way to disable EAX at least to test it and see wheather that's the culprit.

Thanks for your observation.

quote:
Is there a AMD + WINXP owner that runs the game without the problem?

I run it fine with WinXP + AMD + SBLive. Two things I did to my system that seemed to help all games:

1. Disabled ACPI (AMD + XP + ACPI = GARBAGE).
You can do this from device manager under "Computer". Just updated driver to "Standard PC". One caveat is that none of the power management crap works properly. You should also disabble ACPI in the BIOS as well.

2. As mentioned above I made certain my Sound Card had its own IRQ. This is imperative when dealing with 3D sound...even on XP, a system that normally supports non-unique IRQ's.

If those two don't work, I'm out of ideas. This article might help you out.

I have the same problem with the crash and sound loop thing but i have a rhythmic edge sound card so no its not the brand

Oh and someone said to change the irq so that the sound card has its own how can you do that windows me keeps on saying i cant change it

Brennus 01-29-2002 06:36 AM

I finnaly worked around the poor performance issue by disabling complex shadows, which isnt an obvious solution, but now I get this sound loop crash! There is no pattern, it simply stops, and the sounds loop. No amount of ctrl-alt-delete can stop it, pressing esc does nothing, only rebooting solves the problem. (if you can call that a solution). I read a post about sblive! compatability issues...maybe its simply something they need to patch...cuz I'm at a loss!

computeruser 01-29-2002 08:05 AM

My SBLibe mp3 5.1 is on unique IRQ and I already disabled ACPI - so I can separate the devices on the different IRQs. That's not the problem.
Yesterday I tried with the newest Nvidia drivers 27.20 - did not help either.

So lets keep watching....

CU

G5_MYM 01-29-2002 10:24 AM

I don't know if you can disable EAX, But, I suggested to another on a forum to uninstall the drivers for the sound card, remove the sound card, put in an old non live/audigy card, and see what happens, I know its alot for a frickin' game but....

I have that problem when the game freezes and i get a sound loop and can't do anything but shut down my computer the wrong way but like 5 minutes ago MOHAA did the freeze sound loop thing and exited to this in that dialog.....i cant tell what it means but im sure it means something that may help everyone with this problem......if you need any more of the log tell me.

I have the exact same problem. The game runs for about 5 minutes then locks up with looping sound. This on a fresh install of 98SE and Hercules Gametheater XP sound card. All with the very latest drivers / 4 in 1's installed DX etc etc

Mr.Krinkle 02-06-2002 09:31 AM

I heard from another site to fix this problem what you need to do is change the ffx86.dll file to ffx86.bak in the MOHAA main directory. I've heard this fix works for demos and I've also heard it works for the full version. I haven't tried this yet but I am experiencing the same problems. System crashing and rebooting me every 2-5 minutes of online or sp play. I haven't tried the soundcard fix either yet but I've spent a good 15-20 hours trying to troubleshoot this problem.
My specs:
Gigabyte GA7DXR motherboard
AMD Athlon 1.2ghz processor
512mb DDR RAM
Asus GeForce2 V7100 MX400 (32mb)
Soundblaster Live Value

I'll try this once I get home but if someone else is at home trying to fix right now and has lost almost all hope as I have, try renaming that file.

Good luck.

Arclight 02-06-2002 10:10 AM

The looping problem has been well established at the NVidia Newsgroup. No solution--yet.

Hi Gamers!

I'm a UK PC Engineer who bought MOHAA 2 days ago and, you guessed it, after only a few minutes play, the game locks up with the last sound repeating like a stuck record! Sound familiar?

I have a SB Audigy and solved MY problems by adding the following command line option to the MOHAA shortcut:-

-wavonly

This instructs the Quake3 game engine to disable DirectSound & use windows WAV file output only. I can't hear any difference in sound quality, but my copy of MOHAA now plays like a dream, even at 1280x1024 on my GeForce3 with every detail level turned up full! ;-)

It may impact game performance on lower spec systems, but as long as MOHAA is not crashing, who's complaining? Just compensate by using low quality sound or turning your video detail levels down...

Hope this helps,
