Americans can you explain this please !!!

Drug Enforcement Administration = DEA
Immigration and Naturalization Service = INS
Alcohol, Tobacco, and Firearms = ATF
Federal Bureau of Investigation = FBI
Los Angeles Police Department = LAPD
New York Police Departament = NYPD
Federal Emergency Management Agency = FEMA
United States Post Service = USPS
United States of America = USA

Secret Service = SS ??? Why not ???

USA wants to be politically correct or something ?

guarnere 05-12-2004 12:17 PM

The SS is cooler than the Secret Service.

Madmartagen 05-12-2004 12:18 PM

Its an acroynm, so what? oOo:

TGB! 05-12-2004 12:19 PM

Hmmm you're totally right!

Too bad the Secret Service was created 100 years before the SS. Oh well, back to the anti-US drawing board.

Zoner 05-12-2004 12:24 PM

They should change "Alcohol, Tobacco, and Firearms" to "Whiskey, Tobacco, and Firearms" and call teh department "WTF". biggrin:

Interesting point of view.

I suppose the US can be related to Nazi Germany in several ways, but I prefer this one:

The New Roman Empire.

Our innovations and technology are the envy of the world.
Our systems of government and law are the standard for sucess in the modern world.
Our attitudes and styles are adopted in every corner of the planet.
Our troops march arcoss the planet as one of the most respected and feared armies in the world.
Our language is taught in more countries than any other.
Our culture and lifestyle is the embodiment of wealth and prosperity.

Sure these things can be debated in thousands of different ways, but if you look at it with some knowledge of history, I think the only comparison that can acuratly be made would be with Ancient Rome.

Consider this: At the height of its power Rome had 120 million people within its borders. Bringing those peoples cultures and traditions into itself and including them into Romes culture. No place on earth has such a thing ever hapened on such a grand scale until the late 1700s, and what is today the US.

Here is anouther interesting similarity: The Roman empire developed the most complex and diverse tradding network on the planet. They did not grow most of there own food, they had to have it imported. The US has done the same thing.

Our language, our numbers, our money, even our government is based on Rome. Like Rome we have had our Civil War based on government power and economic structure. Like Rome we see ourselves as the saviors of Earth.

Just as Romans we are veiwed the world over as wealthy and pompous.

And just as Alexander councoured Persia 2300 years ago for trade rights, the same has been said of Bush and his war for oil.

To me, the US is the new Roman Empire, and I believe history will remeber it as the great civilization of an age. With its glories and its faults.

Madmartagen 05-12-2004 01:04 PM

yes thats true zen. its kind of weird in a way, to me, it looks as if there is a pattern involved. I guess you could say that china was the first to have this kind of power, then it went to greece, rome, britain and now the us. maybe its some kind of pattern??

Thats is news to me. Maybe we should stop paying our farmers to not grow food any more. stupid:

As TGB said we had Secret Service before schiklegruber was in diapers;
but I think what we did to Dresden more than makes up for the copyright infringement and slander of the SS name biggrin:

but hopefully we; armed with the knowledge of history; will not let the US fall into the kind of decandence as experienced by the Roman Empire; which led to their downfall.

So far we're not feeding Muslims to lions to entertain the public, so I think we're in good shape biggrin:

Naturally all things are debatable, and I have no desire to argue with you, but I do know that American farmers have had to fight for their place in America for 100 years because of vast imports and taxes.
Just as with Rome, Farming is not an encouraged occupation in America.

We would much rather have Doctors, Lawyers, Scientists, Soldiers, and Entertainers...to hit on Strykers point.

A good point made by Stryker there too.

But of course times have changed, and feeding the lions is not an acceptable pastime anymore. But how close we are.....

Take the recent interest in Reality TV for example. We tune in by the millions to watch the triumpts and failures of comman folks in life threatning situations.
We feed on it as though we can smell the blood through the screen.

they share alot of similarities to the SS of nazi germany sleeping:

The British Empire at its height could be a good ocmparision, Of Course the single largest empire to ever exist was the MOngolian Empire of the early half of the last mellenium. The Wrath Of Kahn.

Our systems of government and law are the standard for sucess in the modern world. your systems of government & law are copied from British/Greek/Roman

Our attitudes and styles are adopted in every corner of the planet. There's a few wiggas in Europe but I doubt many people in Russia, South America or Asia care too much about the latest series of friends.

Our troops march arcoss the planet as one of the most respected and feared armies in the world. technologically perhaps, but they are far from infallible & still got beaten by a buncha NVA with AK47s & black pyjamas

Our language is taught in more countries than any other. Your language is English, that is my language not yours.

Our culture and lifestyle is the embodiment of wealth and prosperity. Scandinavia has a higher health & age rate

All I see is a bunch of country envy.

Prior to the early 1900s - when America really started becoming a world power - the preferred language of business and trade was French. Britain gave us the English language, we (after butchering thoroughly) gave it to the world.

Show me three countries with a higher GDP than America.

How many countries have our resources?

I can think of one army that could stand up to our own, and that is only because it has more people than we have bullets and bombs.

We didn't lose the Vietnamese war, support for it fell apart thanks to - gasp - Liberals and the government started withdrawing its support as well. I can't remember and I'm too lazy to look, but I think NVA/VC to US casualties were something like 15/1. If support hadn't disappeared, we'd have won by their surrender or the total genocide of the Vietnamese people.

Which country nearly doubles the amount of money contributed by the second largest contributer to the UN?

Which country provides more than double the amount of aid to other countries than the second largest contributer?

Which country contributes more than 15 times the amount of aid that is the average contribution of the 25 most wealthy nations?

Which country's economy literally sets the tone for the world economy?

I won't even continue on with the things which can be considered subjective, these are the hard facts alone...

Merlin122 05-12-2004 05:23 PM

It's not about jealousy noct. If you look at things like the monroe act and stuff we did in south america then you will see why other countries hate us. The muslims are still mad over the whole crusades thing. We did sack jerusalem and kill everyone except for the muslim soldiers. oOo:

Global hatred against the current German government for the Nazis?

Global hatred against the French for Napolean?

Global hatred against Mongolia for the Mongolian Empire?

Global hatred against Rome or Italy for the Roman Empire?

How can you possibly even tie the Crusades to America. Thank the French and the Brits for that.

There are few nations in this world - I would venture to say not a single one - which have never been involved in some sort of shady activity or another. Being the most powerful and visible nation in the world, it is only obvious that our exploits would be the most well-known.

I could dig up the hundreds or even thousands of years of history on dozens of countries and find a hundred reasons each to say I hate them, rather than just admit jealousy.

I'm a cultured person. In fact, I probably enjoy foreign culture more than I enjoy the culture of my own country. I wish the citizens of my country were as intelligent as the citizens of some other countries. All this, however, does not change the fact that the majority of hatred for America comes from the patriotic version of penis envy. Unless you're a Muslim, in which case you've had your hatred for us beaten into you because the you started a war in Medieval times and ended up getting slaughtered. And yes, Muslim raiders ransacking villages, slaughtering the men, raping the women and children and enslaving any who were spared, prompted the Crusades.

So, in closing, my country has a bigger dick. Deal with it.

Eames did you forget to type something or did Noctis magically say exactly what you were about to say...again??

05-12-2004 10:03 PM

Bunny, about teh Vietnam thing, we never actually lost a single battle in the war.
I would say that we "lost the peace", that is we managed to piss off more people than we killed enemies. Mostly piss-poor handling from the top levels of government down to top level military command.

Our guys fought like hell and killed more NVA and VC than they killed of our guys; we just ended up making more enemies in the process due to bad judgement from the folks as the top; which is typical of all wars, just not all bad decisions lead to ultimate defeat, or the other guy makes more mistakes (like Hitler)
