Want to buy a new system ? I know just what to recommend...

I built and tested my new Athlon 64 system today and all I can say is WOW.

Specs are:

Athlon 64 3000+
Abit KV8-MAX3
1024MB Corsair XMS
Maxtor 80GB SATA
SB Audigy2 ZS
ATI Radeon 9800 Pro

... and the standard stuff.

Windows boots in less than 10 seconds, everything flies ... really impressive.
I highly recommend a system like this if you intend on doing a lot of gaming.

elstatec 05-13-2004 03:53 AM

SoLiDUS 05-13-2004 05:42 PM

Price was 1600$CA which comes to 1160.00$US.

I fucking OWN. FarCry runs smooth as silk on Very High at 1024x768: I'll
benchmark a little more and let you know how it goes. but so far it's crazy!

guarnere 05-13-2004 05:43 PM

I'd like to buy a new system...help me build one....a cheap one... happy:

I would have gotten a hercules Sound card and upgraded my HD to a SATA HD like one of the 120 gigs from WD liek the Cavier etc, Sound Blasters are a waste. Would have meant a faster HD and more space. While sound quality would be impossible to notice.

AMD Athlon XP 2500+ - $90
Abit NF7-S - $85
512MB Buffalo Tech PC3200 - $92
Radeon 9800 Pro 128MB - $200

Leaves you with just enough for a new case/psu if you need it.

guarnere 05-13-2004 06:10 PM

i hate those fancy cases...and i think im gonna keep my old card too....GeForce fx5200...so, yeah...the cheaper the better rock:

Akuma 05-13-2004 06:12 PM

If you going to keep your video card then you can spring for more RAM and/or a faster CPU.

Best hardware site on the net.

Machette 05-13-2004 06:39 PM

meh my AMD XP 3200+ [water-cooled]
1024 DDR DIMM Hyper X PC3200
GEFORCE FX 5900 128MB
ASUS A87NX Deluxe
still fucking owns 10 or 15 seconds to start up

SoLiDUS 05-13-2004 07:13 PM

Got MOST of my stuff from NCIX.COM

I already had the DVD Burner, HDD tray and floppy from a previous pc...

geRV 05-13-2004 07:16 PM

I only upgraded before christmas to the following

Pentium 4 2.8ghz
1 gig pc 3200 ddr ram
western digitial caviar ( eek: ) with 8mb of cache

At the mo the pentium is at 3.4ghz, probably be able to get it up to around 3.5\3.6 with enough tooling around with it. My "weakest"point is my gfx card, a 9500pro, if i wanted i could get the x800xt when it comes out, but ive to get the daddy of all cards before that biggrin:

Good reccomendation here but I would get the 2500 mobile. Some guys are having killer OC's with it. Ive got my 2500+ at 2.2 ghz no prob.

I wasn't sure if he was going to overclock. I know about the XP-M's and there 2.7GHz overclocks. But if he isn't going to be overlocking why even bother?
