CD Cover Design

Just made a CD cover for a mixed CD I'm about to burn for myself. I've been making these "Riffs of Hate" compilations on cassette since high school, but this is the first one I'll do on CD.

This is a large image...full CD jacket dimensions. jpg has been compressed to a manageable 184KB, though.

Lemme know what I should change design-wise. I don't care if you like any of the bands on the CD or not...that's not what I'm looking for in a critique.

I like the tunes on the CD...that's all that matters to me. rock:

I like it. The font used for the track listing might be hard to read once printed out possibly...?

Poseidon 05-20-2004 09:04 AM

looks awesome- sorta agree with the font

Tystnad 05-20-2004 09:08 AM

Shouldnt be no worries if ya got a colorlaser though.
But then again, they arent exactly cheap. biggrin:

Lookin good though.

Zoner 05-20-2004 09:20 AM

The original looks much crisper (the jpg compression undoubtedly fudged that font a bit).

The colour printer I have will print that out fine when it's 300dpi and uncompressed, instead of 72dpi and compressed like a mofo.

Thanks for the comments tho...keep 'em coming.

TonyMontana 05-20-2004 11:57 AM

i really like it..good stuff zoner

Kemikalie 05-20-2004 12:10 PM

you could loose the bevel on the "hate" text, maybe even change the font.

nice work though.

Zoner 05-20-2004 12:19 PM

Yeah, I was going for a stamped in/shattered look on the "HATE". The inner bevel never looks too great, but I'm guessing that won't be too glaring once it's printed.

Neo Nazi Hitler 05-20-2004 04:52 PM

I like how the spin breaks apart behind 'hate'

Bucknub 05-20-2004 05:55 PM

Id' change the font on the back dude.

Pyro 05-20-2004 07:06 PM

I like...though blind guardian > iced earth.

HeadUp 05-20-2004 11:50 PM

designing cd covers is a blast
ive done so many

i like the riffs of hate part a lot, but i think it would look better with a warmer
color scheme, like more orange than pink

i think senor vorhees would make a good covergirl for one of these cds, you should let him in

Zoner 05-21-2004 06:59 AM

Hrm...that might be an idea...heh

I'll tinker with the back cover font. That list isn't the final one anyway...some Blind Guardian might creep in there.

Thanks dudes.

v2.0

http://www.amsbaugh.com/aan/Ger/RoH-cover2.jpg

That better?

Tystnad 05-21-2004 07:55 AM

Yeah, id say it is.
Still, dunno how that beveled "Hate" will come out. biggrin:

Zoner 05-21-2004 08:09 AM

Yeah, we'll see. The CD is just for me anyway. biggrin:

EDIT: Just reduced the blur on the bevel. Look better? Might need to refresh the page when you load it up to get the latest version.

Tystnad 05-21-2004 08:19 AM

Yeah, that looks like it did the trick.

Zoner 05-21-2004 08:24 AM

Schweeeet. Thanks for the input, mang. rock:

It kinda does when you first start drinking it. After a while, it tastes like "Guinness".

...and I like coffee, so it's win-win! rock:

elstatec 05-21-2004 01:08 PM

actually im going to make a stella sig, been sort of ideas on ps stuff recently. cool:

Zoner 05-21-2004 01:10 PM

Kilkenny and Stella rock. Smithwick's is awesome too. Mind you, don't waltz into a bar and ask for a "Smith Wicks"...you might get knocked the fuck out.

Pronounce it "Smiddicks". There's Zone's drinking lesson for the day, kiddies. biggrin:

guiness used to have some pretty sweet images on their site but they have since taken them down and i cant find them anywhere (the one i am talking about is a pint with the harp on the front in a close up which was a very tasty looking pic)

Zoner 05-22-2004 12:42 PM

I found some really nice high-res images when I searched for "Guinness" on Google Images.

(Not being sarcastic...it's the truth)
