Ok, go ahead and laugh!!

I have a n00b question. I would like to talk to someone in another state (US here) from my computer. What free prog will enable me to do that? I used to use "Dialpad" but they charge now.

Does IRC or some shit like that work that kinda way?...and if so, does the other person need that prog too?

...now, go ahead and laugh because i never used mirc/irc/icq, or whatever!!

intrestedviewer 05-26-2004 07:36 PM

you can do that with anyone of the ones you mentioned, msn msgr too.

Arkan 05-26-2004 07:41 PM

You use a headset right?
With dialpad, you were able to call someone's house phone from your computer headset. I'm looking for something like that where the other person doesn't even need a computer. If not, what prog do you recommend both users get?

intrestedviewer 05-26-2004 07:44 PM

Oh for calling to a phone? Errra um, i dunno about that one but if you both have computers, the simplest program is msn messenger. http://www.msnmessenger-download.com/ You can use a mic and talk through that or type.

Art Attack 05-26-2004 07:47 PM

You could use Teamspeak, but both people need it installed on their computer and a headset

I'd use Ventrillo if anything...

At another forum i belong to, someone suggested this Prog http://skype.com/ - its free but i cant tell whether you go straight to a home phone #

Roger Wilco is easy to use.

SoLiDUS 05-26-2004 08:41 PM

He wants to make FREE LONG-DISTANCE calls using his Internet connection
and Computer. Right, Arkan ?

Johnj 05-26-2004 08:51 PM

I know this can be done. I connect phone lines into 'point of sale' networks all the time. If they have more than 3 terminals they need a dedicated line.

i use to use a thing called Net2Phone but now it costs money.. it would let you call as long as you want for free.... anywhere in canada and usa.:)

i often use yahoo messenger - i believe its alot better than msn's voice function - its definately worth a try. only prob is that both machines need yim and a yahoo account (easily obtainable tho) I wouldnt recommend teamspeak as it eats loads of bandwidth and can be quite jumpy at times.

TonyMontana 05-27-2004 01:09 AM

I use Skype, its awesome, and the quality is better than talking on a phone... http://www.skype.com ...100% free biggrin:

Disable autostart? oOo:

Neo Nazi Hitler 05-27-2004 01:41 PM

Is there a way to do that through the program?

I want the thing totally gone though...There was no uninstall and I can't find where the file is, because the entire folder was removed...

Because I can't find where to run the program, except when it starts up at windows. I can't find it at all. That folder was deleted.

For those just too damn stupid to read, he said FROM HIS COMPUTER to THEIR PHONE. To date Yahoo!, MSN, TeamSpeak, and RogerWillYouCombMyAssHair dont have phone service.

But if you dont mind communicating with them IF they do have a comp, Skype is the only way to go to make those ld calls. I've got a friend in Bristow right now and thats the only way to communicate without getting a jacked up phone bill.

geRV 05-27-2004 01:53 PM

"haw haw haw"

Merlin122 05-27-2004 01:59 PM

me and my friend steve used to use a program called phone tools to crank call people. It only works with dial-up though.

mr.miyagi 05-27-2004 03:22 PM
