video card suggestions
Just tried to run Theif 3 & It wont run & it gives me an error saying that "none of the Nvidia GeForce MX, or GeForce 2/GTS/GO video cards are supported." mad: I know i need a new video card anyways but this is just the straw the broke the camels back & is going to make me go out & buy a new one. So anyways, im willing to spend max $150 canadian to buy a Nvidia card that should last me a few years like my current GF2 mx400 did.. any suggestions?

You can get a Radeo 9600 XT 256mb for around 150. A good buy. Go to pricewatch and check out the prices.
|
Yea im actully thinking of trying out an ATI this time around. I find nvidias selection to be just flat out confusing.
|
Get a card that supports PIXEL SHADERS and DIRECTX9...
Preferably, something like a Radeon 9600, 9800 or the PRO version of one of the two. |
50$ - 100$ You can get a GeForceFX5200. Mine runs Thief perfectly. rock:

more like 128mb....and thats american $$ I got my Gigabyte Radeon 9600XT 128mb for 230 Canadian a couple months ago...kicks ass |
I cant remember where but iv heard some bad things about the fx5200
|
I had nVidia for years, than i got the 9700 and all i can say is:
ATI >>>> nVidia |
do you have 8x agp on your motherboard that's like the only way to go
i have a nvidia geforce 4 TI-4200 and it's good and all but only running at 4x it can be 2x as better on 8x cry: cry: |
my computer is almost compleatly top of the line except for video card. its an athalonxp 2600 with an asus mother board
|
Top of the line right now is a socket 939 fx53....And a 800xt[better with gaming] or a 6800U[More 3dmarks]

Oh yeah... card recomendations...
Ultra High End: X800 XT-PE ~ $500 High End: X800 Pro ~ $400 Mainstream: 9800 Pro ~ $200 Low End: 9600 Pro or Ti4600... not really worth getting. US prices, BTW. |
we havent even capped out on 2x agp let alone 4 lol.
|
Large enviroments with high resolution textures will rip apart 2x AGP.
Far Cry and UT2004's out door maps do this quite well. |
Yeah..We have capped 2x..I was messing around with a old p3[500mhz] and a mx440..No matter how much i overclocked it neither 3dmark scores or FPS went up..Even with high details on everything..So i was limited by 2x..
I cant wait to see what happens when nvidia and ATI get hardcore about using the pci-expess bandwith.. |
They should both team up and make Nvatia! Then you get the ultimate card! biggrin:

i went to future shop with the intent to buy a radeon 9600 or whatever adn ended up getting a 9800 pro it was $100 off for just that week 299.95 mother lent me the money for ti and i swiftly payed her back. best choice i made bt now i need a new mobo/processor because my vid card slot (AGP) only runs at 4x as opposed to a 8x. that means my 9800 pro is not getting its $ worth just cause i got a 4h and its running at half the potential ounless i overclock.....
