might start a band...

anyone in one? me and a couple friends might start a band, but we havent really written any stuff, kinda working on a song but we mainly just do song that have already been written, like ac/dc or metallica and stuff. if anyone is/has been in a band, did you start out doing other peoples work? should we write our own stuff, i know we will eventually, but did you guys start out doing covers?

they never work

Gonzo 06-20-2004 12:30 PM

Start by doing a few covers then try to write your own stuff its pretty hard to write good songs

Merlin122 06-20-2004 04:23 PM

call your band the 101st private jacksun snipers

Mr.Buttocks 06-20-2004 04:31 PM

Make Merlin122 your manager.

Arkan 06-20-2004 04:32 PM

Well, for starters you should see how you guys are together. Have a few jam sessions and have fun doing it. If you guys are having fun together, perhaps start with songs you know, then try making one of your own. Having a computer is key, makes recording your own tracks and riffs a breeze. Good luck.

Pick Axe 06-20-2004 04:56 PM

Good luck. The great thing about covers is that whoever you're preforming for probably know the song.

i hope your band fails and you all die

Proteus 06-21-2004 04:15 PM

I hate people who have to be in a band to play with somebody else. Why don't you just play with them for a while until you get the hang of each other. Then if you write music together call yourself a band.

Good point dont go around calling yourselves a band yet. Also talk to guarnere he was in a band.

Proteus 06-21-2004 04:19 PM

I know so many people around my town that are in bands and don't do shit. And they force themselves to play together(and fucking most of them are death metal shit bands). My friends are just getting together and playing, and it's much more fun. We don't know how to play drums but there's a kit at his moms and its fun to cover shit. Play Back in Black all the time. Good shit.

imported_Fluffy_Bunny 06-21-2004 04:32 PM

Dude get a tambourine and rock until the night is young.

101stSpeirs 06-22-2004 01:11 PM

that is my primary objective

Scorched Earth 06-22-2004 01:16 PM

definately cover songs before you write unless you have tried composing before...when covering try to improvise in some areas and change some parts to get the feel of new music...change tempo, dynamics, keys, or even the notes

Tystnad 06-22-2004 01:24 PM

Dont forget the cowbell.
