gf1.com - staff signup

The domain name debate should not hold us up, we should move on. I've said time and time again, that it's nice to have something like ak47.com; then again, content IS king. Personally, I wouldn't mind typing in http://www.fj83nf29lahfg0w.com/ three times a day if the site is interesting and helpful to me; Plus there is a certain feature available on every browser called bookmark. So I guess, groundforce1.com it is. calmdown:

Now, for the new website, we will have the following positions:
[*]Website designer. This isn't dedicated, just a one time deal. Someone suggestd that we start a thread and vote for the best layout as our new layout, I think that's a great idea. Your layout-work will be credited.[*]Section manager. Responsible person for a section. MoH:X is a section. CoD:X is a section. A section at our new site is exactly like what aa.com is now, composed of (mainly) news, mms, forum, squad list, game info, and more. A section manager should know his game well, and more importantly, should be an active and respectful member of the community. [*]Section staff. Reponsbile for a specific part of a section. (see 'Section Staffs' below).[*]I'm not looking for new moderators. Sure I will need more moderators as the website expands, but for each section we'll have section manager and staffs as moderators. As for the "Lounge" forums, we shall carry on with the election process every three months.

Sections: MoH:X, CoD:X, BF:X, MoV:V, VietCong:X and American Army. I know HL2 and Doom3 are supposed to be the second coming of FPS, but so was Duke Nukem Forever - Look, We don't want to try to cover every single FPS out there, but focusing on military-themed, semi-realistic and authentic FPSs instead. Please suggest more sections, especially if you are ready to work on the section you purpose.

Section Staffs: (for each section we need)[*]A news person, who will post news for us. He will have the rights to post news on the front page. All news from different sections will go onto the same front page but categorized. News posting can be done through the forum, it's almost exactly like positing a new topic. I will help you get onto the corresponding PR person's mailing list, if necessary.[*]An MMS person, who will approve user created files for us. The operation is extremely easy, you have the option to download and test out the file before everybody else do, and then you decide whether or not the file is in the right category, has sufficient documentation and more importantly works as advertised. Approval and rejection are done through a custom interface and all you need to do is click. Communication with the file creator can be done through the forum. You will need to know a lot about skins, maps and all sorts of other mods. [*]A Guide manager. Easy, read the submitted guide, decide whether or not it is worth our reader's while - to approve it, click, and it will be published, otherwise, reject and give a reason, straight back to the submitter's mailbox.[*]A Squad list manager. Approve squad registrations. Just make sure we don't have some "l33t child-fucking corpse-eating ultra ooooh-so-scary" squads polluting our community. Bascially you have nothing to do, but if you like to communicate with squad leaders and to organize events (like touraments or leagues) for squads, then this is the best position for you.[*]A server admin. Yes I am planning to have at least one game server for each game we cover, and yes I will be responsible financially for the game servers, you **#$&(# loney: . Anyway, someone PM me and send me some good deals and I'll get them sorted out. I am kinna hoping that the server admin and the squad list manager could be the same person for each section, because I'm thinking of a feature for squads to book our servers for practicing or matching purposes.

I'm also thinking of hosting different tournaments for each game. From past experience it is extremely easy to get the game publisher to send us some goodies like t-shirts, mugs, signed copies and what not for prize, otherwise most squads/players will be happy to duke it out just for the heck of it... If necessary, I can do the (initial) communication with the publisher, but someone will have to actually log onto the server and record the results. We've done that ONE time here, and it was tougher than I thought...

If you're interested please sign up for section staff positions, and we will figure out who will become the section manager.

I'm trying to speed up the process and get everything settled because I am having a rare moment of not having to work 12 hours a day, and who knows how long it will last. So please, if you are interested, sign up below.

P.S. Website designer is the urgent one, I need the layout to start working on... anything. Sign up below and I will send you the details.

Merlin122 07-03-2004 12:53 PM

I can do section managing, news or mms. If neccessary I can do all three at once...but thats only if things get real bad.

Maplegyver 07-03-2004 12:55 PM

BadScript 07-03-2004 12:56 PM

Tony the message that you sent will be at your outbox until the person you sent to read the message. Then it will be moved to the 'sent' box.

Snuff 07-03-2004 02:15 PM

THis is offtopic but I missed the other thread before it was locked. This is quite and undertaking but an excellent idea to revive the site. I like the server ideas and the tourneys. The important thing here is that we have to be welcoming to newer members period.( something this site needs to improve on). I feel this is imperative for this site to grow and be able to expand. Offtopic can still be a place to cut loose, but not on a person's first few visits. This may sound a bit ghey, but what about a welcoming officer/mod or what ever you want to call it. Basically this person could welcome any new members and/or intervene if the new member was unduly flamed on their first few posts( or just communicate a problem to the section leader and let him deal with it). They could also answer any basic questions or basically show the new guy the ropes. This may help out with people registering and posting once and not coming back. Of course, this should also be the members responsiblity as a whole, but there could be one guy who reminds everyone of this on occaision.

If they don't care, fuck'em, we don't care either.

Yea i see your point the golden age was when newbs flooded the forums.

Snuff 07-03-2004 02:30 PM

Yeah but to do what BS is proposing means that we need a larger community. The true asshats will be weeded out with time.

if BS gave me some power I'd weed'em out myself. Sorta like MP's

TonyMontana 07-03-2004 02:34 PM

I'll post here too..

I could admin cod/moh servers, I'm workin with a server rental company and doin some tech support for them, fixing servers if they go down.

Also I could do the squads section of cod/moh, i have some small tournament experience and our hosting company is going to soon be doing our own little CoD tourney

elstatec 07-03-2004 02:44 PM

all you would do is try and sell servers happy:

Pyro 07-03-2004 02:56 PM

If you need any help with offtopic I can help there lol

Madmartagen 07-03-2004 02:59 PM

I would like to mod offtopic if thats possible please.

Also, is there a target list of games the forum will be discussing? I know its first person, but which ones will get their own section? If a new game comes out, is it going to get its own forum based on popularity or what?

Cpt. Obvious 07-03-2004 03:00 PM

Ill cover CS/DOD.

Short Hand 07-03-2004 03:06 PM

ill do some graphic work etc etc. also get advertisemnt if wanted.

R'Jackson'Harris 07-03-2004 03:11 PM

if its posible i would like to be the Squad list manager. i could take the time to check like every day.

Edit: spelling

RaNgeR 07-03-2004 03:18 PM

I would gladly help out with being on the staff for the vietcong section, and squad list.

Inertia 07-03-2004 03:42 PM

I would be willing to assist in any way I can. With the "fall" of Exalt I find myself short of on-line responsibillity, lol.

I only have MOH & Spearhead so I have no business within the other sections outside of Off-Topic.

I would be willing to help in the squads area, MOH:X, or within an area not game related. I would also like to encourage the continued exsitance of an artwork and sig area.
