The Village

strvs 07-31-2004 07:39 PM

Thanks for giving away the ending jerk-off.

imported_Grim_Reaper 07-31-2004 07:41 PM

Bucknub 07-31-2004 08:44 PM

meh, still gonna see it to see what I think of it.

Sirus 07-31-2004 08:46 PM

o well, looked cool but like most scary movies they blow

fujimi7su 07-31-2004 08:50 PM

It was actually good IMO, a little cheesy but very suspenseful during the first half.

i was disappointed with the tail end of it tho.

Akuma 08-01-2004 07:32 AM

I saw it last night. It definitely wasn't M's best work. The 'twist' was very predictable and most people will get it within the first half hour. So the ending is quite disappointing, but a bad ending doesn't make a bad movie. The performances and for the most part, excellent. The plot is pretty good, a little slow at times. But that's how all of M's movies are. The reason a lot of people think it sucks is because they only concentrate on the ending. But it's what leads up the end that is important. Like in all of the M's movies you aren't supposed to focus on the script, but focus on what's actually being said. The plot twist make suck but the message about human behavior is far deeper and more chilling than any plot twist.

I give it a 7/10

Fireal 08-01-2004 11:56 AM

Heard uit blew, Ill keep my 6 bucks

jujumantb 08-01-2004 03:14 PM

It really doesnt even make sense, when you see it you'll know what I mean. He dumbs the plot down way too much so that 13 year olds are sure to understand it and it makes it stupid and predictable. Some parts were pretty good, the beginning is pretty good, then, for those who have seen it, after the "toolshed", that gives away a big secret, but then they still try to make it scary in the woods! Stupid! Its not scary when you tell us that secret! That and going to any pg13 movie in a theater is like revisting jr high all over again, damn kids piss me off. Anyways, its extremely predictable. He basically gives away the big plot twist a fourth of the way through. It's worth seeing though, just dont expect to actually be surprised like the 6th sense.

your right the acting in this movie was incredible, rivals that of classic tarantino flicks biggrin: rock:

could have been better story tho :(

Nyck 08-02-2004 08:56 AM

I saw it last night and like most was able to figure out the ending...but I still say it was a good movie...acting was excellent

The blind girl was great

william hurt and Joaquin Phoenix were both excellent in the film.

Joaquin Phoenix IMO is becoming one of my favorite actors...I have never , not enjoyed one of his roles.

Jotun 08-02-2004 03:57 PM

i just saw it this morning. my over-all opinion of it, disappointing.

the previews hyped it up WAY scarier than it actually was. then when you find out the actual story, its not scary at all. the morals to the movie were good, the directing was good, and the concept is fine, but not scary.

Fireal 08-02-2004 04:00 PM

I just got back, and I thought it was pretty horrible. The ending was like a punch line to an extremly long, and boring joke. And i was just happy it was over. I really hope M night shymamyamyalanan can do better next time.

SPOILER

I thought itr was good untill you found out that the monsters were fake. then when noah got the costume and stalked ivy i thought they were real than im like wtf oOo:

would have been better if there were actual monsters, and if everything fell into place (aka signs)

TGB! 08-02-2004 09:18 PM

SPOILER QUESTION

I knew about the monsters being fake. . .but does it still end with one of the villagers "leaving" the village and finding out they are in modern times?

Nyck 08-02-2004 09:31 PM

actually no........Remember the only villager to leave was blind...that guy never told her he just gave her medicenes. she had no recollection

Judas 08-06-2004 06:46 PM

just saw it last night ... i really liked it.

i never got the impression that the grandfather bought the lot for them tho ... was it said ?

there was mention of the guy being a professor so i kind of thought that maybe it was a government grant of some kind ... also at the checkpoint the guard said that the area was off limits to gov fly overs ..

i agree that the blind chick was an awesome character.

snipeymagoo 08-06-2004 06:56 PM

ill rent it

And his quarterly raises
Feels he's better than you and me
