Panic attacks anyone ???

I've had 4/5 already, the 1st one was the worse I tought I was going to die, just like an heart attack but you don't know until you get to see a doctor.
Last week I was up for 38 hours straight, couldn't sleep at all even just lying in bed was painfull to breath,I had to be up doing something,I couldn't rest or the chest pains would come back.plus the dizziness and numb feet/hands and face.
Just called my PCP and he got me Trazodone, until my next app. annoy:

geRV 08-14-2004 06:57 PM

Yep, i take them now and again as well :( . Pretty scary thing to happen to ya because at the time it seems like somethings seriously wrong> Its basically cause by you breathing too fast, pretty scary experience when it happens though. I take valium now and again to control it but i hate having to be on any kind of medication for something that seems so trivial. Im not the only one i know that suffers from anxiety, pretty common problem but it affects some more than others .

First time it happened i was in the hospital and you really do think you're either gonna die or your hearts fucked up because you can kinda hear it beating loudly in some cases. MY hands also clenched shut and because they were numb it didn;t seem like it was me doing it so that was anotehr fucked up thing that added to it.

KTOG 08-14-2004 07:00 PM

I've had a few in my day. They are scary as shit and there is nothing you can do about it. One time i was in teh middle of eating and i started to feel chest pains. Then out of no where my head started messing with me and i left the cafeteria and laid in bed thinking i had a heart attack or something. It comes out of nowhere and its heard to get rid of it.

Shut it cunt! happy:

I had one when I was 19 - I was going through a bit of a "rough patch" - and I thought I was having a heart attack. cry: Anyway, the doc whacked me on some Beta Blockers and that was the first step to getting that shit sorted out. I haven't had one since.

Damn I had 4/5 within 2 months I guess. annoy:

KTOG 08-14-2004 07:29 PM

I don't take anything because i feel that this is the way i just am and if i panic over something then i feel that its needed. If its worth worrying over that much i'm not going to change it. Just my philosophy.

As for short .... most people with anxiety are usually the most open minded/bright people. Reason? We get our selves all worked up because our minds think about things and all the logical connections to our problem. Your mind goes "FOotball, heh, football" ... while mine is like "I'm typing on a forum, forums were in ancient greece, oh the olympic games are in Greece right now."

SoLiDUS 08-14-2004 07:39 PM

I've had weird dissociative states of consciousness that induced the type of
panic or anxiety attacks you speak of: they seem to happen only when I've
neglected sleep for too long in combination with metabolism-boosting pills.

imported_Fluffy_Bunny 08-14-2004 08:30 PM

Can't say I've ever really experienced that, maybe sometimes in a very public place or if im going to give a speech or something i get nevrous, shy & anxious but I'm not sure if thats the same sort of thing...

BlackJackal 08-15-2004 01:02 PM

this isnt a panic attack, but pretty freaky for me. i'm a little clostrophobic, and in nc, we have a wet n' wild. i drove up there and went for a day. there's a slide several stories in the air. it's over 300 stairs to get up there. and they have 2 black enclosed slides that have water and twist around. all in all, the black slides last about 30 secoonds or more. i thought it wouldnt be so bad, so i went. it beats you up since it twists so much. at one point it curves and you are in about 1 inch of water that splashes all over you and then imerses you for 1 sec. at that point i was freaked out. i got out and wont go init again. if anyone here is clostrophobic, you understand.

Pyro 08-15-2004 01:04 PM

I got one yesterday actually when the bitches put on a strobe light. I hate those things.

MrLevinstein 08-15-2004 01:23 PM

I use to have them to the point where I couldnt breathe right and it felt like I was gonna die.

Stress sucks

Your Logic"

Your a dumbass if you have never had a panic attack". "Panic Attacks mean your smart !"

Seriously, that tops the fuck you chart.

I have anxiety, been nervous plenty of times, been beaten, been in 3 car accidents (2 almost lethal). Things have gone wrong like a mother fucker, whether it be failing a test, messy brake up, parents splitting, Among other things which I care not to talk about on a internet forum. I just keep it kool and handle the bad. It just seems to me like you can't deal with fucking up, so you panic your way threw it. Ill just say this, some people can handle life, and some can't. The ones who have to deal with this hard shit day in and out and don't brake like you guyz are the tough ones. Not the dumb ones as you claim them to be.

"Im not saying your a pussy for it though.. just alot of people don't have them".

PS football season starts for me in less then a month, I am excited about it.

Innoxx 08-15-2004 04:57 PM

I've had a few panic attacks in my day. One at school, one on an LRT and an additional one at a really crowded Costco. Really crowded places cause me a lot of anxiety. I generally hate the public, and I hate how noisy & unsanitary they may be. I try my hardest to avoid any contact with the general public. I especially hate being touched by anybody for any reason. If you rub up your arm next to mine, I will seriously freak out.

Wow. I can't believe so many people here have had panic attacks. I, myself, have never had one, but I've also never had problems dealing with stressful situations, etc.

I was clinically depressed for about six months, but only realized it in retrospect. Never went to see a psychiatrist or anything of that sort.

In my opinion, panic attacks, depression, or really any sort of "condition" that has to do with your mind doesn't require medication. I could understand mental retardation, or if a part of your brain were damaged or disfigured, but other than that, it's just in your head. We all have the same parts, there is no reason some people should need prescripts while others don't. I got through depression without any help.

You basically have two choices:

A) Address the source of your panic attacks, have some balls and confront whatever it is that is the source and then figure out what issues you need to confront to get your head right.

B) Take the easy out and let a pshrink prescribe you some medications that basically leave you in a perpetual high that will affect your intellectual abilities over time while you become dependant upon it to function.

People take meds to try and fix everything these days. People need to grow some nuts. We got through how many millenia without Prozac? Yeah.

Commence flaming.

KTOG 08-16-2004 04:53 PM

hahha @ short hand. I can't wait for some college professor to demean you infront a of a classroom for having such an illogical way of debating. I was saying that our thoughts are webbed out to show logical things in how they are connected. Not that we are all geniuses. We have a way of seeing things going wrong in multiple ways. Its just a burden as it is a reward to be able to think this way.

Its amazing hw people that have never experienced one seem to think theyre some kind of authority on the subject.

You've never had one so why try and talk about something you know nothing about aside from reading about it in this thread.

As for medications ive been taking valium for quite some time, it leaves me in no "state of high" at all, it doesn't alter me in anyway mentally or physically, im as much of an asshole without them as i am with them. Medication is more of a mental thing imo, you know you've taken something that is meant to help with the problem so you think less of it and it won't have as much of an effect on you. It may be "all in your head" as you put it, but untill you experience one you don't know the effect it can have on a person.

Innoxx 08-16-2004 05:01 PM

I happen to agree on some points, Noctis. I think that any type of mood enhancing medication dulls your mind. I've been clinically depressed for the better part of my adolesense. Depression to me isn't always caused by emotional trauma or anything. Genetics, physical well being and other psychological disorders play a big factor in producing the syntoms that cause depression. Depression isn't always mental. Luckily in my case, the only thing causing my depression was my own environment, I got away from that, met someone who didn't make me feel like shit and I started feeling a lot better. But depression is as bad as any illness and should be medicated if it gets bad.
