Good point, ask zakk who he things better, and hell say randy rhoads. Not because hes being modest but because without randy zakk might not have ever played in Ozzy.

But in my opinion i like zakks stuff better.

elstatec 08-18-2004 06:18 PM

randy, he stuff sounds more "classical" to me. zak is good, but being able to play songs is one thing, randy wrote them.

Randy Rhodes was 100x better than Wylde. Wylde isnt even good on any standards...

rolleyes: bullocks, zakk can play jazz, classical he can write a lot of differnt styles, just because he only puts out metal doesnt me he cant write anything else. He played guitar for 8-12 hours a day in highschool and hes a damn good player and a pretty good metal composer.

Short Hand 08-18-2004 07:32 PM

omg.. I SOOOOOOO see a huge flame fest coming here.

No, but jotun acts like if a guitarist isnt his style hes not that good. Or if he only plays metal no matter how talented he is plain.

Gonzo 08-18-2004 08:20 PM

Randy, he brought a whole new style of guitar to metal

He can play jazz, huh? really? lets hear some of his stuff. Steve Vai practiced 11 hours a day, whats your point? I bet he cant play jazz.

Les Pauls are terrible, and incredibly heavy. Why would he ever make such a terrible custom guitar?[/img]

I voted Randy Rhoads, but I'm a fan of Zakk too.

Randy was untouchable, man. Maybe some of you young'uns can't really appreciate what kind of impact Randy had on the metal scene in the early 80s, seeing as though you were residing in your father's brainbag. The first time I heard the solo for Mr. Crowley, I almost sold my guitar and called it quits, it was that good. His talent is only overshadowed by his potential, which was snuffed out way too early.

Zakk is an amazing player as well, but he really hasn't recorded much that has stayed with me and influenced my playing. Ok, maybe I was doing those wild pinched harmonics he whores in every song, but that's about it.

Zakk's solo during the Ozzy show I saw last year was awe inspiring, though. My jaw hit the Corel Centre floor and stayed there for a good 5 minutes. It was probably the loudest thing I've ever heard...heh heh.

imported_Grim_Reaper 08-19-2004 08:39 AM

randy all the way.

fujimi7su 08-19-2004 11:44 AM

i dont really care much about ozzy, but BLS and Zakk's solo albums give me a boner.. hes gr8

randy's good, but meh..

Sgt>Stackem 08-19-2004 01:26 PM

Randy was the man. Better than Zak. Ozzy rocks rock: he has a knack of finding great geeetatists

I don't know what you consider good soloing, then. Randy didn't play with the blistering speed of a Petrucci or Malmsteen, nor did he go off on 10 minute existentialist-type instrumentals like Satch or Vai. What he DID do was solo to match the song he was playing. It was him, a Les Paul (or that cool polkadot V), and a wall of Marshalls. Randy's solos were works of pure art, man; heartfelt, sometimes acrobatic, and powerful. I don't see how you could possibly say that he wasn't a great solo player.

Id rather listen to the solo from "Mr. Crowley" or "Diary of a Madman" than Yngwie Malmsteen play 250 notes per second or Steve Vai play a 4 neck guitar with his cock or something.

I know it's opinion, and I'm not attacking you. I'd just never heard anyone say negative things about Randy Rhoads before. It's a new thing for me.
