did you know when your welding you need to either close your eyes, look away, or wear one of those helmets or your sight can be damaged?

Are you insane ? Whether you are Tig Welding, Mig, Plasma cutting OR even ARCH WELDING !! You I REPEAT YOU ALWAYS WEAR YOUR FUCKING MASK AND FUCKING GLVOES. The UV rays off that fucking spark = cancer and a serious sundurn from even 2 minutes worth of welding. i have seen guyz not put theirs on and come out fucking skin peeled and all. Unless you are braze welding (did i spell it right), you almost always need gloves & mask. Hell even with the cutting torch (oxy/acetiline), (probably fucked up that spelling to....). Bah or maybe you are just some tough mother fucker who thinks they can beat cancer down. I have gotten a bun from the rays, it ain't pretty.

even if you wear a mask, the fumes will still get under it and u will breathe it. anyway i was just pointing that out, i dont give a fuck on when u knew it oOo:

Short Hand 09-16-2004 07:52 PM

the fumes are hardly a concern in comparision to the UV rays buddy. considering all a mig welder (the most common type of welding unit) on uses pure oxygen in order to ignite up etc. positive charge from the unit + ground = no lethal fumes. WThell are you talking about.. burnt medal is not lethal.

imported_Grim_Reaper 09-16-2004 08:25 PM

its not lethal no, but it can cause some damage to your lungs. my dad welds everyday at work and he taught me how. i know alot about it. i never said it was lethal. yes the light is more dangerous.

draken_sd 09-16-2004 08:31 PM

nice sigs, expiacllly you prot rock:

Short Hand 09-16-2004 08:31 PM

i just hate seeing fuji talk smakc like he was. I have been welding for years, their is no "small job". I still don't see how breathing in the by product is harmful, unless your welding lets say a peice of metal etc with paint on it. Which

A. paint blocks the connection between positive & negative = no spark no weld

B. welding paint = stupid, it can cause a fire.

C. I know of no metal regularly used metals that cause any type of lung damage. + also consider youcan wear a breath maks if this were the case, which is always availible at any placeo ffering welding etc.

fujimi7su 09-16-2004 08:32 PM

i know the UV is bad, thats why when im doing anything more than a little hear-and-there i wear the mask... i dont do a lot of major welding, usually just patching things up

never seen anyone burned by it tho, that would suck

Short Hand 09-16-2004 08:37 PM

man even a small exposure is dangerous. That shit = cancer, wear your damnmask, worst comes to worse, and if you ffind the visor to dark, flip it open & put cutting torch goggles on underneath., not as dark but your still protected & the weld will be easier to see.

Note, I once wore just the goggles and my eye's wee fine, but the rest of my face was burnt to a crisp, it looked hilarious as well. Letsj ust say a lot of people got some good laughs from the imprints left.

newt. 09-16-2004 08:37 PM

i like the sigs.

the UV rays are the biggest concern, electric shock not a biggie, burns no worries.

fumes first dude sites indoors should be well vented.

in some booths there a vent almost directly over where we work so you can lite up a cigarette no problem, like i sometimes do

fujimi7su 09-16-2004 08:45 PM

i know what you mean short, and i wasnt really "talkin smacK"....

that sig rules

p.s. welding is a handy skill... you should all play with welders til you learn
