Rifle qualification

Well this weekend at the range was a rainy, cold miserable day. But that didnt stop me from shooting Expert the highest qualifying rank you can get! I hit 9 out of 10 targets at the 500 yard line to seal my qualification. w00t!

500 yards with an M16? Or were you using something else?

Either way, congrats. 500 yards is a long way.

geRV 10-24-2004 03:42 PM

Id be lucky seeing 500 yards never minds hitting a target oOo:

Good job eagle-eyes beer:

ninty 10-24-2004 03:42 PM

How big are the targets? A normal target like Figure 11 or what?

Cause thats nuts. I've never shot from that far away. Farthest i've done is 350m.

You must have had a scope, right?

Good job.

Bean 2 10-24-2004 03:43 PM

Leet sniper. GJ. I thought the military was starting to use those new weapons i forgot what they were called, i think X-35 or something?

Milla 10-24-2004 03:43 PM

No scope man....only iron sights. And its called a B-mod target, ill try and find a picture.

Godsmack 10-24-2004 03:44 PM

its the x-m8 I think

^ something like that?

WidowMaker555 10-24-2004 03:46 PM

dand 500 yards i could probably hit sumthing from 10 yards you are gr8 man rock:

Milla 10-24-2004 03:50 PM

Heres my really ROUGH drawing comparison. Basically when you aim with the front sight...you cant see the target

And no gerard those targets are the ones we shoot at at the 200 yard line. But...what that guy is looking from is 500 yards.

ninty 10-24-2004 03:52 PM

Thats nuts man. Good job. beer:

Milla 10-24-2004 03:52 PM

Actually from the 200 yard line and the 300 yard line that drawing i made....cut that in half we shoot on targets that are the same thing, except shoulders up.

Sergeant_Scrotum 10-24-2004 03:52 PM

thats crazy, I din't even think the m16 was that accurit.

me either. awesome job milla

Milla 10-24-2004 03:53 PM

Oh man the M16 is incredibly accurate when you know how to use it. Its Maximum effective range is 800 yards, but you can pin point hit something at about 550 to 600 yards. M16 is an awesome weapon when used right.

geRV 10-24-2004 03:54 PM

Same, it was orignally a pos but its been modified so much over the years its a good weapon if kept clean, but an ak-47 is probably more reliable than it and that things been around since the late 40's. eek:

Milla 10-24-2004 03:55 PM

As long as you clean the M16 you'll never have a problem with it. Thing with the AK is...it barley needs any maintanance...but its not accurate like the M16.

ninty 10-24-2004 03:56 PM

I was always taught max effective range of c7 was 300m and maximun effective range of a section was 500m.

I guess thats why they call it "effective range".

Well isnt 300 meters equal to 500 yards?

Akuma 10-24-2004 03:58 PM

Awsome job, Miller.

ninty 10-24-2004 03:59 PM

No, meters and yards are almost identical.

300m = 328y

Milla 10-24-2004 03:59 PM

Oh...hmm. Well now you can go tell your higher ups your american Marine buddies are hitting targets at 500 yards with the M16 biggrin:

Wonder how an ak-74 would stack up against an m16, i know the russian spetsnaz use that, all the original 47 needed was better accuracey over range, if the 74 has the reliability of the 47 and better accuracey over range it would be a really good weapon. Ive no idea though what ones meant to be better, ask the russians theyre gonna say ak ask americans they'll say m16. =/ Id prolly perfer a 74-su with the smaller stock, baically a carbine so easier to use in cqc.

ninty 10-24-2004 04:01 PM

hahah

were actually doing the marine three block war training from your handbook right now for urban combat.

I want a Carbine bad. rock:

geRV 10-24-2004 04:02 PM

Changed my mind biggrin:

geRV 10-24-2004 04:04 PM

Anyone know the name of that weird ak the russians were working on, supposed to fire 2 shots simaltaniously so it has better accuracey firing in bursts instead of each round getting gradually more spread out.

Zen 10-24-2004 04:32 PM

Awsome Job man,

It took me a year to get expert, nice shootin' tex.

Milla 10-24-2004 04:35 PM

Well in bootcamp i shot a 216 which is sharpshooter. But today i fired a 50 (Point scoring is diffrent in the fleet compared to bootcamp...obviously oOo: ) And i havent really fired an M16 at a known distance range in..well a year. Last time i fired real rounds was back in august when we did MOUT training.

Merlin122 10-24-2004 06:48 PM

would you have to aim the weapon up more for the bullet to sink down and hit the target?

Depends on wind\distance and all that shit.

Tripper 10-24-2004 06:54 PM

Thats awesome Milla, congrats.

Yes. Anything over 100m you're going to have to do some thinking as to where your aiming. Same goes for wind speed left or right.

Pretty much, the M16 bullets if your in kinda close you need to aim low because the bullets actually rise up coming out of the rifle, than eventually go down with distance.

Miscguy 10-25-2004 10:06 AM

10 rounds.... fuck the army fires 40, from differant fighting positions. We only shoot up to 300 meters in quals though. 37+ is expert.
