Valve trys to stop Hackers
Half-life 2 is here; yes it's true the game can be bought at your local software dealer. The people from HL2Files.com saw a link to a warez version of Half-life 2 on some bit torrent sire and thought it be smart to warn the people at Valve about this.
So they did and some time after they reported the link they got a message back saying that Valve distributed the warez version themselves, and that anyone downloading the game and trying to play it via steam will have there IP number recorded and blocked from steam. Isn't this a great way to stop the distribution of illegal software, imagine what would happen if valve gave this list to other software companies so that they could block these ip addresses too, then I think we've gotten a little bit closer to a world where people don't steal, not even software. |
stfu fanboi.

I don't even have HL2 and I don't plan on getting it.
cry: now i need to buy the game.

are you crazy ? how could you "NOT" buy it ? |
I love the fact my I.P changes everytime I connect.
thats Entrapment... p.s. F HL2...
that world would be shitty, when we actually have to buy the crap before trying it out. You can't exactly rent PC games.
Not to mention if that is true they're breaking the law themselves. |
breaking the law by posting the game to DL? They own the rights to it hence they can do whatever they want with it. It's no different then Punkbuster banning IPs or now, banning by your hardware ID. The only way it can be entrapment is if they use the IP information to press charges against the people DLing it.
They're not arresting anybody are they? I'm no lawyer, but wouldn't they have to arrest somebody for it to be entrapment and breaking the law? Don't get me wrong, I'm not defending them, but it doesn't sound like entrapment to me.
Well techically if they released it, and they said it was free, even if they dind't say it was under their own name. They are legitametally selling me a copy. I'm sure theres some tort in Canada against this. Tort of deciet or something.
when i said "that's Entrapment", i was joking...
wow, that will do absolutly nothing for most people that download games...ever heard of a
PROXY? |
well thats bs because there's a crack that allows u to activate HL2 without being online with steam oOo:
but there willl be 21423525 ways around it by the end of the week
Sad that a game this good will still be warezed, if theres one game that actually delivers on the hype its halflife 2. Can't say that for any other game this year or last year, or probably the last 5 years. $40 million or so went into this game and some people are still too tightassed to pay for it. annoy:

Gaming industry has a right to protect their investment and to h4x the fukkers who try to steal their ideas. You guys know the risks when you steal, why complain when the storeowner grabs his bat? Its a game of cat and mouse but dont be a leech. I download games and my friends get me games from newsgroups before they hit the stores. The difference is, I have bought every single title that I enjoyed. I have all the boxes and manuals to go along, and I consider my money an investment for a better game later on. Im all for protecting my consumer rights, but if you like the game, buy it.
Ok I just read a message on a news site that hacking group (I think it should be cracking but who cares really?) EMPORiO has cracked the HL2 security, so you don’t have to verify your installation with steam and you can play the game
