Halo and Ridley Scott

[quote:85382]May cause gamers to completely freak. November 19, 2004 - Ridley Scott, the man behind such highly respected genre fare as Alien, Blade Runner and Gladiator, may direct a movie based the hit gaming franchise Halo. The Ain't It Cool News website broke the news last night and gaming fans around the globe have already begun wetting themselves with excitement. A scooper for the site says that producers Ronald Shusett and Daniel Alter have talked to Ridley's Scott Free productions about the project. The source adds that Scott had actually been approached about Halo in the past and wasn't interested, but now that sales of Halo 2 have blown the roof off the place that may change. We checked with our own sources about the Halo film project and they claim that Ridley has been hesitant to take on the project in the past because he hasn't seen "a world for a story." Yes, we can hear all of you screaming at your computer screens. It will do no good. No doubt the "Get Sir Ridley for Halo" petitions will be circulating within minutes. Our source says there's a potential storyline being cooked up, but that Scott won't be approached again until the story is cracked with excellence. The recently released Halo 2 smashed sales records and has surely captured the attention of movie moguls. In the sequel, players take on the role of Master Chief, a genetically enhanced super-soldier who is the only thing standing between the relentless Covenant and the destruction of all humankind. It seems appropriate here to blurb IGN Xbox's Doug Perry, who included a bit of unintentional foreshadowing in his review of Halo 2. Doug says, "Halo was a game about exploring a single ring, and in that it's like the movie Alien. Halo 2 is like Aliens. The first Alien movie was about learning the parameters of a single creature. The second movie was an onslaught of aliens, multiple plots and sub-plots, and conspiracies. It was bigger in scope and more encompassing in its ambition than the first. Halo 2 is a massive expansion of the original story in every aspect. The story is more complex, and to a much greater extent than its predecessor it's more vast, more mysterious, and ultimately, a much meatier one. Just like Aliens, it is bigger in scope and more encompassing in ambition than its predecessor." Ridley for Halo? We can dig it. Tell us what you think [/quote:85382] Looks promising rock: |

I am really just telling him to think of all the movies their have been that have been based on games. The onyl one I can think of is... Super Mario Brothers; and Tomb Raider. I could do that myself, but I am just too lazy right now. |
Was gonna post this...
Anyways, I also heard that they have thought about casting Ed Harris as Captain Keyes (i think ol' harrison ford could do better in this part), Samuel Jackson as that Sgt. guy (forget his name). |
[quote="Short Hand":3c7aa]so a game with a pos story line gets a movie ?

meh, Ghosts of mars was horribly executed. It could have been so much better, the fact that the settlers turned into these things that turned them into tribal crazys... was not so scary. What would be scary though is a dank dark creepy compound with zombies & hell spawns etc. Or a scene in hell with all the screaming and baby's crying. |

Rumor Control:
[url:9dd35]http://www.gamespot.com//xbox/action/halo2/news_6113693.html[/url:9dd35] [quote:9dd35]Rumor #5: Ridley Scott will direct the film version of Halo, with Ed Harris and Samuel L. Jackson in the starring roles. Source: German site Sci-Fi News and Ain't It Cool News, the most loathed and loved movie-info site on the Web. The official story: "Microsoft does not comment on rumors or speculation." --Microsoft spokesperson. "No comment." --Warner Bros. representative. What we heard: In a bit of a coup, Sci-Fi News scored the first pictures of the storyboards for the Halo movie, of which there are several on the site. It also claimed that the same source said that the project will be announced shortly in Variety, with full cast and crew details. According to the site, Ed Harris will play Captain Keyes, the Pillar of Autumn's doomed captain, and Samuel L. Jackson will play Sergeant Johnson, the hard-boiled UNSC space marine who assisted the Master Chief's Covenant-killing crusade. Sitting in the director's chair will be none other than Ridley Scott, director of sci-fi classics Alien and Blade Runner and arguably the most intense war film ever made, Black Hawk Down. The mere thought of such talent bringing Halo to the screen is enough to give any geek heart palpitations. However, on the other side of the planet, Ain't It Cool News was telling a much different tale. AICN received a tip from an informant claiming to work at Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment. According to said informant, two designers from WBIE-owned Monolith were in a meeting with Warner Bros. executives about the game adaptation of the 2006 sci-fi movie 2176, about "a futuristic retelling of the Revolutionary War." During the discussion, the subject of the Halo movie came up. According to the "WB informant," Warner Bros. approached Bungie at this year's E3 about acquiring the Halo film rights. Their response? "Unless you got the writer and director of the original Alien, everyone can go fish." And, according to AICN, Scott had already passed on the project, based on the script. However, since Halo 2 sold 2.5 million copies the first day, Warner Bros. has asked Scott to reconsider--and AICN says there's been no answer yet. Although the quality of its writing has lowered the bar for online film journalism to ant-height levels, AICN has been a steady source of Hollywood rumors for nearly a decade. Many are false. But many are spot-on, and the one posted today rings truer than its German counterpart. Bogus or not bogus?: Bogus, although we'd love to be wrong on this one.[/quote:9dd35] [quote:9dd35]Bogus or not bogus?: Bogus, although we'd love to be wrong on this one. [/quote:9dd35] Awww man. |
A movie based on the halo storie(i.e. the books) could be leetly awesome. If it were based on the game's story, or just about any other FPS to date........................................
annoy: oOo: |
The game's story wasn't so bad, just needs some more depth to make it a good screenplay for a movie
|
i don't see the point.
|
If done right a halo movie could be pretty good, theres books and all that kind of stuff on halo so it has more of a story to it than just two games. Though knowing hollywood and their way of gayifying things masterchief woud probably fall in love with a female cyborg. oOo:
I also think that whoever played masterchief would be upstaged if Ed Harris and Samual L Jackson did have roles in the movie. Hes the focal point in the games but movies usually have a way of messing with this formula. |
