Wireless network problems! (pics!)
This is what it says when I first boot up my computer. It says something different every time, but it always has those boxes, just a different number of them.
I can fix the problem by going into my network connections Selecting properties on my wireless card then configure, and this is what comes up. After that, all I have to do is press OK, and it goes back to my actual network called jeff. This is what it should look like when i first boot up. If I do the steps above, it goes to this network, but I shouldn't have to do this. It should do this automatically. When I do this, the network works. Everytime the other computer wants to access the internet, I have to do this process. Anyone have any ideas? This is really pissing me off. It seems like on startup it isn't defaulting to the network called jeff and just giving me garbage, and i can't figure it out. I've tried uninstalling the bridge and reinstalling, but I just got the same thing. One other thing is that there is no router involved. I have 2 computers, and 1 wireless card in each computer. Their connected to each other directly. |

Dude, I have the same setup, 2 computers each with a wireless card in them.
I'm not to sure about your problem....It's like wtf What I can't figure out is how to share the internet....They both have XP - But I've been racking my brains trying to figure it out. It's not as easy as XP will have you believe it is. I have the network up and shit, just no internet on the upstairs client computer. |
do you have a router tripper?

Actually, no, I don't. I just have a wireless card in each PC. I've had it working before on these two computers, and under this system, but I got my uncle to set it up - And since then I've had to reformat the upstairs client PC..... |
54 Mbps? holy fuck.

Well I got mine working for the moment. Uninstalled and reinstalled everything.
As for your problem trip, are you getting the signal on the 2nd computer? |
I assume one of the computers handles the routing and switching for the client
computer through the wireless cards while the main NIC is connected to a cable modem ? I'll need more info to help you out trip... One thing: make sure your wireless cards are on the same channel and that all proper keys are set up. |

I just can't figure out how to get the interweb upstairs, using the downstairs connection. Basically, I have one computer upstairs, one computer downstairs - The downstairs PC is the host - It has the ADSL modem plugged into it, and a wireless card through which it sends the signal to the upstairs computer which has the exact same model of wireless card inside. They both read each other signals correctly and I've pinged them both and they're fine in that area. The upstairs computer has no modem. I know what I'm missing is a small step because everything else is working as it used too, I just cant access the net upstairs. |
Hmm ...
Give me the IP information (IP, subnet and gateway) for your adsl nic, host wireless and client wireless cards. I think your client may not have a gateway of last resort or simply doesn't know where to send the packets... One more thing: a wireless router would make your life easier. A single point of administration while the client pc's wireless only has to worry about being on the proper channel with the right keys. You could get rid of your host wireless card... |

99, using Ad-hoc mode is pretty bogus and unreliable. Like trip said you're results may vary... it will work but not consistently and probably not at the highest performance. I haven't read the enitre thread, are you on SP2? My suggesstion is to buy a router/AP combo or if you have a router, just buy an AP. Come to think of it, if you don't have any more PCs than the 2 with WiFi cards, you can grab an AP and plug it straight into your modem so long as it does DHCP. I'd lock that down tite though you don't want some jerkass leeaching your shit and maybe even spamming or something off of it. |
haha, yea... I went wardialing with a friend the other day and we found so many
insecure wireless connections, you wouldn't believe. happy: |
lock any routers? it's fun biggrin:
(i bet) biggrin: biggrin: |

I had a simular problem when i got my pc only this was with a wired connection. I went through so many tutorials to try and get this to work, I managed to get it to work but the connection just randomly cut off on my pc (upstairs) - took like a days worth of tweeking to set it backup. - i eventually decided to get a router (which is pretty much plug and play on XP).
