So far nothign out of the ordinary. I think Italians have a 13 days of fish custom..I know of New Years we eat Herring as a family tradition. Usually after dinner and gift opening with the family, Ill try and get my grand father to tell us stories about his youth. One year I had the family participate in a bunch of Grand Turismo 3 races biggrin: It was funny seeing my 80 yr old Grand Father complain about the way the imports handle.... oOo:

Heres a weird one; for the last 7 or 8 years, I've played basketball at midnight (after church service) on Christmas Eve with the same friends. eek:

Me and my family usually go out and eat at some random place, even if its something like "Country Buffet". We go home, and usually toast marshmallows in the fireplace, and I usually stay up and play games until my parents get into a hissy-fit and come screaming at me, pulling my head away from the screen by my hair. Then I wake up and open the presents, which usually consist of small, cheap things, like an 8 pack of Duracell AA batteries. Yeah, I know.

Church on Christmas Eve, my favorite service of the year. Christmas presents on on Christmas morning.
|
open presents, get pissed, eat food...
|
Let's see...
An Italian Restuarant for X-mas eve dinner. Midnight Mass. As a kid I would have slept until 0300 and woke my parents up at 0700... FUCKIN ARMY! That should read 3am and 7am. Now my brothers and I sleep until around ten when my parents wake us up to open presents and then clean the house for company. Then we have a huge X-mas dinner for... uh... dinner, that lasts, like all Italian meals should from about mid afternoon until night time. Then post holiday depression and drinking set in. |

We used to go down to Christchurch and spend Christmas down there at my Grandparents with my extended family all coming along to the midnight service at my Grandfather's church (He was a Reverend before he retired), then the next day we'd go to a church service from 10:30 - 11:30, and all go back to my grandparents for a huge turkey lunch - Then opening presents and relaxing....
The last 3 or 4 years though we've spent christmas at our house up here on the North Island. Same routine minus the second church service in the morning. This year I'll spend christmas eve with my buddies and most likely have a session, then go to the midnight service with my parents.... |
We should air our grievances together. I'll start. Fuck you butters.

we go to my gf's parents house on x-mas eve for a large party, get drunk, clean the house at 3am, go to sleep, wake up around 11, open gifts, eat breakfast, then lounge untill the turkey is done... after dinner we usually go out and get smashed with her friends... on boxing day we go to my parents and start the cycle over again... good times, good times...
|
* Boxing Day = the day after Xmas Day (for you non-commonwealth types)
