I ask the lady if it was just her store, and she was like, all of America doesnt have interact. is this true? i couldnt belive it. weird |

you give the lady your bank card, they swipe it, and you put in your pin # and its payed for. its like going to a bank machine but no money paper money is exchanged. |

I do that at King Soopers all the time...though Im not sure what kind of card it is, its just the dark one my dad always gives me when I got to pick up some tamatoes or something..... ...if you're Canadian, what are you doing shopping in the U.S.? |
If youre using a debit card without the visa logo or within a system not recognized by certain P.O.S. machines - no it wont work. Its the same here or when you use an ATM machine.
Hardly "behind" - different banking system. |

Just like that picture in the girly thread with the diff. between europe and us |
Difference in currencies. I deal with a lot of people who own a condo at our resort and live in Canada. They have to get a Visa because Visa defaults to the currency of the country it's run in. Obviously, Interac doesn't do that.
Only other option for them is to operate a US currency account for drafts.. but you'd still probably need a Visa. Damn Canadians. Cept Zoner. |
we have debit aswell.

America is a little arse? eek:

When I was in Ft. Lewis in March I was trying to get something to eat and I went to about 3 different fast food places. Me in my ultimate wisdom decided not to bring any American money, but I thought my debit card would be fine. Turns out my debit card doesn't have a visa or mastercard logo on it, and therefore does not work in the states. Got some money off friends for some burgers. Twas all good. Now I have my credit card so I can just use that if I don't have cash.
However, it is true that Calgary has the highest number of interac transactions per capita in the world. That might go for Canada as well. A lot of people use debit here. Infact, I just used it this morning. |

well if you are the only ones that except it then I could see you having the most transactions. wallbash: get a Visa or Mastercard, we will take your money |

It doesn't really matter if certain systems don't work with each other, the principle is the same. That includes US/European systems. |
the intreset on debit cards is awful

the fees i usually incur are about 1-2 dollars a month for using my debit card. If you want to take money out from another banks atm then it's like $2 service charge. i always try to find my bank to take money out.
you can get a debit card to draw money from a specific account where fees are minimal. you can get some where the first 30 or 60 times you use it it's free, but after that you have to pay each time. I don't even know what mine is, but i'm usually only paying a couple bucks a month so its ok. |
im meant credit oOo: oOo: oOo:
fucking canadians |

a visa or mastercard one is a credit card, and the thing jibber is talking about is his actual money, interac takes money out of your bank account and a visa or mastercard just charges you that amout of money and then crazy intereset. 2 diffrent things....
and if someone already said this, then stfu i didnt feeel like reading every single post |

anyway, yah. if you don't pay off your fucking credit card, then you gotta pay interest. wallbash: i don't use my cc unless i have the money to pay for the shit i'm buying. i usually have about $200 on my credit card per month and i pay it off every month biach. I've never had to pay interest on my card. That may change when I have a house to pay for, but until then, i'm the king of the worlddddddddddddddddddddddddddd! |
We have Interac down here, except we call it Eftpos and we've had it for the last decade or so....I've had an eftpos card since I was like 9 - 10 years old, I'm 19 now.
I don't know how I would survive with out the card either.... |

i've never had a problem using my canadian debit card on an interac machine or atm in the states or the UK, I took pounds out no problem in London, and Us dollars in Texas, the bank adjusted it and it worked out on my next statement...
