The American Revolution was before the French Revolution, and the Sons of Liberty were a group of terrorists. http://www.therationalist.org/kk.php/s,3197 http://www.ushistory.org/declaration/related/sons.htm http://www.bharatvani.org/books/jihad/ch1.htm http://www.wayoflife.org/fbns/ishmael-terrorism.html http://earlyamerica.com/review/2002_win ... rorism.htm http://sapiens.ya.com/terrorista87/Pagi ... RORISM.htm http://www.computercontrolsystems.com/G ... merica.asp ( Last link is so-so true ) |
you are very correct, i should have used quotes as i meant that the term was derived from "the terror" during the revolution... although terrorist actions exist previously (hell, Spartacus was a 'terrorist'), they weren't described as such until all hell broke loose in Paris...

The Latin word Formido(losus) used by the Romans to describe the enemy armies involved in a revolt, means " causing dread, terror, etc "
Sparatcus was called terriloquus by many roman historians, meaning he had a dreadful and terror filled way of speaking. Mithridates IV of Pontus who declared war/revolted against the Romans was nicknamed Aversabilis ( to turn away for fear of death ) http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/de ... ce&s=books http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/de ... ce&s=books As I said before, the British crown considered and called " The Sons of Liberty ", BEFORE and during the American Revolution, Terrorists. |

thats awesome, i must admit i agree with you. I was taught that the english word came from the happenings of the French Revolution, but your evidence is overwhelming, especially the word "terriloquus", thats a very astute observation... It makes more sense that the french came from that latin root, and then gave birth to the english, as you have implied... thats the problem with studying different time periods, my prof for european history claimed the connection, I guess i should have double checked with my classics profs...
good work!... ps, i have a Mithridates II coin... |

who gives a shit where it comes from, allw e need to know is that it is wrong, and even countries like America are performing certain acts which are terrorism. It is hard to stop, especially when you need to be a terrorist to take down terrorists.
