Video Card Suggestions

Im interested in picking up a 6800 GT, but its 4 bills and I am wondering if there is anything else comparable that any of you would suggest? Maybe even at a cheaper price

I have a $100 gift certificate to newegg and just got my money back from them for the faulty PSU.

I think im gonna buy this psu

x800 pro VIVO, flash it to xt-pe speeds and 16 pipes, not really sure on american pricing though, oOo:

Probably better off buying an x800xt or a 6800gt, gt can usually overclock to 6800 ultra speeds anyway, plus either one should last a good while before you need to upgrade again.

Everything from thermaltake is shitty. I wouldn't trust them with a fan much less one of the most important pieces of hardware in my computer.

I've heard some good stuff about the OCZ power supplies. Maybe check them out.

Pro imo isn't worth it, pro vivo with a flashed bios to 16 pipes = worth it.

But it doesn't always work. Plus they are rare and often cost more than a 6800GT or X800XT.

Yeah theyre usually xt-pe's that wouldn;t run at default speeds, id still say xt or gt, pro isn't really worth the money.

Miscguy 02-14-2005 10:11 PM

I suggested pro simply because he said the 400+ for the 6800 Gt was more than he wanted to spend. Not to mention it will do fine with all the games he has, and will likly come out in the future.

I always assume that in some instances you can safly skip an generation of vieo cards as long as you have the top of the line (or damn near) from the last gen. People who bought 9800xt/pros, are still running fairly well with current games. Unless a game company puts out a murderous game, worse than far cry graphics demand wise, they would probably be safe to skip this series. Or atleast wait for some price drops when the next set of this generations cards hit. Like the x850 and so forth.

I ended up holding off on the Vid card and beefed up some other aspects of my rig
