ATI needs to get their act together. Their engineers make some damn good cards but their manufacturing is horrible. Two generations in a row of paper launches. The X850 was supposed to have much higher yeilds because of the new core, but they still couldn't get them out.

They have them in stock, which coincidently is where i get my boards from. The x850 is a lot more available than the xt-pe or the 6800ultra was at launch. The last launches of x800 and 6800 was a joke because of the paper launches.

The x850 isn't really a new core either its an overhauled r-420 core which in turn was an overhauled r-360 core. The r-520 is again gonna be an overhauled core of the x850 which i believe is the r-480. All theyre doing is shrinking the die size and adding new features. Its still plenty fast for todays games, the new core which is from the ground up is gonna be the r-600 or r-620.

I personally think the x850 was pointless, its meant to increase yields, but at the same time its pci-e only oOo: . Barely anyone has pci-e yet when you compare to the people that have agp. When the new boards launch in may or so i can bet that pci-e will appear first with agp lagging a few months behind to try to get people to migrate to pci-e.

PCI-E is new, which is why we are selling the x850 at circuit city for only 200 dollars for fucks sakes. Thats cheap as shit. 256 what is it DDDDDR or some crazy shit like that.

You sure its being sold for that cheap? x850xt? Thats like £160 or so which is dirt cheap for a top of the line video card, my x800 was like £380 or so, over $500.

Weird theyre selling it that cheap, then again if you havn't got a pci-e mainboard then you gotta go buy one. I think that boards a waste of time, its 20mhz faster in core speed and 60mhz faster on ram speed. In gaming terms? about 5-10fps over an x800xt-pe in most games, not even noticable.

So PCI-E isnt even worth it?

Its not that its not worth it really, the industrys just forcing everyone into it, agp8x is nowhere near its limits yet, nvidia with their sli want to transition to pci-e and ati has a multi board setup coming in a few months which again will require pci-e. far as i know ati and nvidia are doing one more "high end" graphics card release then theyre gonna keep the high end cards strictly pci-e.

Rofl, I still use PCI. Hey, I can play Doom 3 on High settings, though (with some tweaking done to the registry, tho)

That doesn't sound right. The x700 pci-e is going for $200 and the x800 agp is selling for $400.

Sorry gerv....its a 700 Pro, i got confused on all the fucking numbers. Its not the 850
