i was out for a couple of drinks tonight with some friends... the owner of the bar (also a good friend) comes and sits at our table and says "who wants a shot?" (very unusual for him), we all ask why and he says "because half an hour ago Hunter S. Thompson shot himself dead"... needless to say we all drank that shot with much else on our minds than getting drunk... i was a fan of the man before Depp played him, when i thought he looked more like Bill Murray than himself, and his words meant more than his actions...

hunter s. thompson captured an essence of the times he lived in and was able to describe the previously undescribable in his drug-hazed adventures. and i thought they were hilarious.......RIP to a great storyteller

it's much harder to live than to die... but you can't just write people off because they are "cowards", he may heve been mentally ill, or living in chronic pain from a terminal illness... just remember it's human nature to survive, people who wish to hurt/kill themselves clearly have something wrong with them, and could have been helped...

Suicide is lame, but it is also one of the most sad forms of death. If a person feels that suicide is the only way, then they truly are sad. I hate to hear this. annoy:

I think that's a pretty ignorant view....You obviously don't understand the mindstate of a suicidal person, or ever been in a similar position. Believe it or not, people do get into positions where its less painful to take their own life than live through it. You can't call them cowards for that. No way. Not until you've lived through the same shit.

Obviously if they've decided to choose death, something in life is giving them a REALLY tough time, and they're not merely after attention if they actually go through with it and kill themselves. I personally have nothing but sympathy for those that go through with suicide, it must be a truly sad state of affairs inside their brain....

its still a really selfish thing to do. No matter how shitty your life is people still depend on you. My old friend burak hung himself and a large portion of my school hasn't been the same.

IMO, It's more selfish to claim the suicide was selfish in the first place. Obviously whoever goes through with suicide is having a fucked up time living and would rather die.

In most cases no-one is coming to their rescue, or helping them out, so they have no way out. If you never attempted to help out someone when they need it, even if you don't pick up the signs, and then they kill themselves, how can you possibly call them selfish....?

If they actually kill themselves, then it's serious - They aren't just looking for attention like some emo teenager. They're probably too busy dealing with it to worry if their friends which seem to be living life happy (unaware of said suicidals pain) will be sad afterwards.


I guess I've just never understood the whole selfish thing....And yes, I've actually known a couple of people that have killed themselves, a very close friend of mine's sister killed herself, and I saw how torn up he was afterwards, and their whole family. New Zealand has a really big problem with teen suicides.

i tried to help my friend but he seemed happy before he died too. he'd go through rather bipolar periods of jovialness and a slightly exposed depression. its not like we sat there and watched him dive into it and he knew as well as most of his friends that we depended on him just as much as he depended on us.

Seems all the good writers commit suicide...read about this in the morning today pretty sad shit...RIP

You also have to imagine that these people aren't just depressed, they're disturbed. Not in the insane sense, but their spirit is gone. It's like the pleasure and hapiness have just been sucked out of them. IMO, it would be better to die than to live a life of extreme depression and unhapiness.
